You almost had me!!! Bravo, great ending. As far as failing; the only failure is when we fail to try. Failing to try is a failure. You didn't fail, you just took a detour around a storm. It also makes my day to see your kids involved. Dad is a big kid at heart and they know it. "Jimmys World" was never really about just one airplane, it was and is about an inside view of the world of aviation and a dad who brings his family along for the wild and crazy ride. As Josh Bixler says; it's all about making memories with the people you love with planes you don't. For your kids and family, keep making those memories.

You made the right choice. The cost of the repairs to the aircraft greatly out weighed the worth of the aircraft. Now it goes on to help people who want to work on aircraft for a living and plus it will live on for a very long time helping which was your ultimate goal. Jimmy, between yourself and others there has been a fairly recent drive to save these older birds and even though your original vision of Save The 310 did not go as planned your vision of continuing to help others learn is what is keeping this movement going forward. I was going to suggest that school to help out. I ran into their glider team a few weeks ago at a regional contest here in Texas and those kids are amazing at what they do. I am so glad that they are getting a project like this. Now I know my donations will be put to good use. Just keep us updated on the progress they are making.

Jimmy thank you so much for having talked me out of my lifetime dream of owning an aircraft which I hoped to add to the 42' sport fisherman that I already own. The yacht is plenty enough already in terms of time and money. The addition of an airplane project would have killed me. But some of the curiosity about aircraft ownership has been sated by watching you dig through mouse crap so thanks for your public service in helping others not make the same mistake!
...and I've been disabused of both an airplane and a boat!

There are plenty of rag and tube classics about at a relatively affordable price, the Taylorcraft BC-12 springs to mind. Buying a good one is a better option than restoring a bad one. Only buy a restoration project if you really want to rebuild an aeroplane, buy a flyer if you want to fly!

One of the tenants that Marines live by is Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome.
You overcame problem after problem. When the problems with the 310 got to the point of untenable you improvised and adapted.
While you were unable to meet your mission with that 310. You found other options to still meet mission; as well as making it a larger success than you had originally planned.
You didn’t fail brother. The mission just didn’t go to plan.

I can't count the projects that I took on that ended costing three times the amount I expected. Its always hard to add those numbers up and realize you could have just picked up one already restored and saved money. Its all about the experiences and wins/losses. As said before, its not all about save the 310 but about your passion for what you do. We will always continue to watch this or whatever channel you come up with. I always check for your video updates daily!

In the beginning you sounded like your faith was slippin' , but as in all things, God doesn't want us to fail, and makes the impossible, possible! I see 👀 you bro. You're fortunate to have the right social connections that you can continue your aviation career.
My aviation career was destroyed when the 1500hr law passed. I was in aviation school at the time, I had my instrument rating & nearly finished with my commercial pilot's license. Since I was so close to being done w/my CPL I went ahead & finished. I didn't have enough money for CFI/CFII and couldn't loan more. I paid for aviation school with student loans, but my living expenses I paid for by working. I worked a full time job as a mechanic at an automotive restoration shop, but it only paid $9/hr before taxes so it was just barely enough to cover rent, utilities, food, transportation. No where near enough to pay for aviation school on top of all that. Hoping for some kind of miracle I spent every second of my free time searching for a better paying job to pay for the CFI & CFII as well as contacting any/all aviation related businesses in the world that I could find to see if they could use a commercial pilot. I always made it clear that I could relocate quite literally _anywhere_ in the world and that I would even fly for free. Besides being a commercial/instrument rated pilot I'm a skilled mechanic, skilled in MIG/TIG welding & metal fab, and I'm a certified master watchmaker. Nevertheless I still struggled to find a job which paid more than $9 or $10/hr.
I went and spoke with several recruiters to see if me already being a commercial/instrument rated pilot might be of some significance if I joined the Air Force or Navy. The honest ones said the probability of me getting to fly in any branch of the military is so slim that it may as well be zero. They said there just aren't enough flying positions available for every guy who wants to be a pilot. Even if I joined & did everything exactly right I'd still probably never get to fly.
As a last ditch attempt at coming up with the money for the CFI I decided to try starting a GoFundMe, which went nowhere. So here I am, a commercial & instrument rated pilot who can't do a single thing with it.
You didn’t fail. You did your best , that’s all anyone can do. I’ve never enjoyed a channel more than yours.

Upside is a scam. Tried it once, they claimed the vendor had no record of the transaction. Deleted it.
More importantly - you tried and failed. The most important thing we learn as we age is the "reverse gene". This is the ability to self-recognize that what you are doing is folly and changing course. You did that before you wasted 250K on this sunk cost project and for that you should be commended. This is something to be proud of. You learned valuable lessons and I'm glad you invited us along for the ride. Thank you.
