    Good video, Nick. Made life easy for me and my install. Only difference I did, was to fit the GPS in the small recess, under the plastic cover, just in front of the fuel filler cap. So it stays horizontal as per instructions. Plenty of cable, so no issues.

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Lewis perfect. Glad it helped. Good idea with the GPS unit. I don’t seem to have much issue with mine I have to say. It’s not too tough to do really. Just slowly and carefully. Try and keep the clips to the default 5 minutes. It’s a bit of a pain as it creates so many clips but downloading a specific clip via WiFi (slow as molasses in January) is easier and i have the odd clip freeze so the ‘reset’ that happens as clips change seems to reset it. Much of freezing issues have gone away though by careful choice of micro SD

    Ok Nick. Just have to say. I got the same dash cam system for my GSA but have not installed it yet has here in Sweden it's not bike riding weather until the spring next year :-( But for me I like your video's because maybe without knowing, you give out some small, but important detail here about how you did your install. Example is when you said that you changed over where you put the the DC unit. You talked about the seat height and that you had yours in `High´. I have mine in `Low´ has I am no where near your hight. But it's these small details about the wiring & the seat hight is what other TH-camrs don't include, that is why I like your vid's. Please make more.

    Nick that is a really interesting, and instructional video. Really well structured, informative and educational. I am really interested in the INNOV technology, and in the 1250, so absolutely hit the mark. My only gripe is your sound level, which is variable, but mostly too low. @@nickhodgeUK I believe that since these dash cams aren't suited for environment shootings so people would need them for backup against insurers' scams.
      The most important things in these gadgets are good night recording and especially number plates also the GPS is very important too.
      I also heard stories about other people's dash cams stopping recording, not sure if it's this INNOV or the other China gadget which is the only alternative to this one in your review.

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bill Admond Bill. Thanks for coming back. I have only had this one so comments restricted to that. This has good night vision. Certainly if a number plate is illuminated with headlight or street light it is. Obviously it is an orange tinted light generally but perfectly adequate for evidence. The GPS module is separate, with a long lead. This is good as you are able to site it where it can capture a good signal. Mine is under a plastic side cover and tested fully to make sure I get 100% signal. That’s important to do. I checked this when I got caught speeding and it read exactly to the police camera!!!! The issue with file locks. It does happen. I had it. Most people buy cheap cards but dash and are a different recorder. Looping over and over. For this reason follow the cards suggested by INNOVV. That’s what I’ve done and had no issues since. Many manufacturers also make dashcam specific cards. I’m happy with my purchase. As a recreational video camera not quite so go as the WiFi transfer is just too slow (you have to remove the card under a two-screw waterproof panel) but for evidence you aren’t worried about removing the card at all. Maybe just check by downloading a file once a week or as part of your ride ‘put away’ routine to make sure it’s still working as whatever card it will eventually give up. Hope that helps?

    Great video! So you just stick the yellow wire from the DC converter into the CANsmart? No welding? No electrical tape? No nothing?

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alvaro. If you have the CanSmart then yes. All the DVR unit needs through the yellow wire is a signal when the ignition is on/off. The bike’s Canbus system has a delay in shutting down which the DVR unit needs to write the last file to the card, but even if you don’t have CanSmart/Canbus the Innovv power supply will store some energy from the battery to do that anyhow. So red to battery, black to battery and yellow to CanSmart or tap into any wire that comes on with ignition 👍🏻

      Nick Laskaris Thanks for the comment Nick. I wish the front beak mounting would have been stable as it’s such a good view. I thought of a GoPro Mount that you can get by the headlight but they have such a wide viewing angle I suspect you’d see something. Not that that matters I guess. People will always be critical. I find it strange that people ‘dislike’ videos that someone has made quite a bit of effort to film and edit, for free and they hit a dislike button but hey ho. Best comment as sometimes sound is an issue is ‘your sound is so quiet”. My typed answer “Thanks for your comment”, my heads answer... “Turn up your volume”. Ride safe

    Another useful video Nick. I have a couple of observations if that's ok? Firstly can you edit the video as you've told any perspective bike thief just where your tracker is! I have had both the Early Innov and a Roadhawk ride moto+ camera on both my 1200 GS' and found the best place I could think of was on the grey L shaped bracket on the front fairing by the RH indicator so if you're still not happy with where it is you could try that. As far as the side panels either side of the battery in concerned, it's easier to take out the Torx bolt then pivot the panel up and forward from the rear so the front securing lug stays where it is and the bottom rear rubber sleeve slides up and off the steel pin. If you look at the front lug it's shaped with a flat on it and once you've lifted the rear you can then pull the panel off towards you if that makes sense?

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Adrian. Thanks for the comment. I’ll check out the side panel piece when I’ve digested it 😂 the front camera is OK for its purpose I think was just so happy when nothing of the bike was in view. It’s only a small part of beak but I’ll look where you mean. On the tracker. Not to worried. It’s the tracker BMW recommend and in fact they even have fitting location and wiring plug for it, so many are in the same place. It’s a bugger to get to though and if it loses power it triggers anyhow. My bike has the factory fitted alarm, the tracker, the jog setting on the INNOVV, datatag microdots,etchings, etc all my mates have is a chain but as they say “they’ll be safe chained to mine!” I guess we all stand to lose our bikes to theft but randomly, at home it’s secured indoors behind two massive locks but when away I prefer outside storage to undercover as it would hopefully be obvious something was wrong as they try to take it, or disable security??? (I also take my Oxford cover just to keep prying eyes away. I reckon as with most things, if someone wants it, they’ll have it. Your comments are very valid of course and thanks for them, just that’s my take

    Nick - great video - thanks. For backgrounds that include computer hardware, your workmanship in keeping things organized and manageable is commendable.
    I have a question though: I looked at your video to see what your system has over using two simple Wi-Fi Dash Cams and ones Iphone to set them to loop every 5 mins.
    I have not worked everything out yet, but things are looking good. Meantime, I was wondering, what advantages does the Innovv K2 Dual Motorcycle Camera have over some wifi based dashcams?
    Thanks for reading this -

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve not used WiFi based dash cams so unfair to comment. Of course fitting would be easier but I would worry about speed of transmission (maybe the cameras are limited to 720p with a low bit rate??). Also I would worry about interference in some applications (eg the new BMW RT uses on bike WiFi for Nav, etc). Having used the K2 and now K3 although it trickier to wire them (at least to wire them neatly), you know they are working in 1080p 100% of the time and in 3 years never failed me 🤞🏻👍🏻

    @othoapproto9603 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for a wonderful video. Interesting product, however it falls short not providing a screen and only acts as an archiving system. There are many systems on the market that have all the K2 functionality but also provide a TFT screen to see the camera live. Yes, the documentation of a possible accident is the goal. I also want to use the rear camera as a rearview to cover my blind spots the side mirrors don't provide. Sadly, I can't find a system that allows you to flop the camera's image. Why? Well, when you mount the camera on the back, the image on the screen is flopped. So when you see a car on what you think is the left, in reality it's on the right. That is really confusing and more dangerous than no view at all.

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends what you want. I seldom use the video for recreational use and only occasionally look at it at all. Maybe to send a mate some images or to see a near-miss, etc. I certainly would t want more distraction with a viewer. What I would say with INNOVV units is the build quality for the rugged motorcycle environment is very good 👍🏻

    • @nickhodgeUK

      No. The routing to battery and backward to the DVR was all done with just battery removal and patience. Take the blade fuse out of the waterproof holder. Enjoyed your video. I have a R1250GSA as well. I have a Hex ezCan GenII already installed on my bike that has an open channel. I’m wondering why you chose to attach just the power signal wire to your Hex instead of powering the Innovv system from the Hex. Is there a reason it needs to be powered from the battery?

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to use the Innovv power box as it’s built to control the unit. If you look down the comments you’ll see someone experiencing issue with powering from the Canbus controller. Not sure if that was real but just use the switching on mine and it works well.

    Hello Nick, wondering if you could answer a question for me please? I’m installing a K2, after connecting the positive and negative from the DC convert to the bike battery the blue light comes on, as expected. So when I use a posi tap connector to attach the yellow switched live into the bike’s harness, should the blue light go out, assuming of course that the bike is off?

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should but there will be a delay as the DVR has a delay timer (I think 10 seconds) to ensure and file ‘active’ when the switched power goes is saved and not ruined as that can actually be a very important file!! If it stays on then you have likely tapped the yellow wire into a live not a switched feed in the bike. On BMWs be aware that the Canbus can hold some channels live after ignition off for its own purposes so that may prolong the ‘off’ time. For example your headlight stays on for a few seconds after ignition off so effectively if you’re in that switched circuit you’ll need to wait that time PLUS the K2’s. Hope that ramble makes sense? 👍🏻

    Hi Nick as a complete novice how do you actually operate the cameras, and then access the footage?

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Geoff. In general, if you are using it as intended as evidential then it’s fit and forget unless you have an incident. It starts automatically, runs all the time the bike is (and when parked if that feature is switched on) and switched off soon after the bike is switched off. When the card is full it starts recording over the oldest files (loop recording). A 256gb card I think holds about 12 hours of footage from both front and rear cameras. You can of course download the footage at anytime. Realistically the best way is removing the card but you can download single files of a minute or so via WiFi on your phone, but that way is painful.

    • @nickhodgeUK

      No way do I download it via the app!! The bike and phone battery would be flat. I take the card out and actually carry under the seat with the BMW ‘tool kit’ a small Christmas cracker Phillips driver to undo the 3 screws and remove the plate. The screwdriver then presses the card to ping it out. Now.... I was so worried about those tiny grub screws I asked Steve at Innovv if he could send me a few as spares which he kindly did. The power pack has three wires. Red to + on battery. @@KevinBilling you have asked these in the K2 camera so if that is what you have the camera light on the unit should flash steadily when recording. If you have the K3 then it should be on solid. The key is whether you are getting footage recording? Be sure to buy a dashcam recommended SD card as even the best fastest card (eg sandisk) will not be right for this type of recording. The recommended cards on in the Innovv site. Be aware that the camera on the K2 and 3 will flash if you are taking a picture or if an accident or g-sensor triggers an event but this should only be as it locks the file (1 flash maybe). On the ‘streaming’ of video. This can be done in the Innovv app as ‘play’ rather than download but frankly it is soooooo very slow I always remove my card, download it and look on another devices. I can do that in minutes where streaming or downloading from the app for a single minute from front and rear takes more time Hope this helps

I’m a motorcycle instuctor from Somerset so I want to use this k5 for training really, its a pain having to stop with the engine running so I don’t end up with a flat battery to as yesterday when I was at home in my garage I ended up getting a flat battery. Not sure if the selected videos can be sent direct to my iPhone or iPad then at least I could park then bike and grab a coffee and view without having to be near the bike. Hi Jeff. Thanks for the comment. Just by way of update the unit is now over 2 years old and still working well. It’s at the top end price wise for sure but many cheap units may be long gone in that time on the harsh environment of a motorcycle. I had quite a few events I wanted to capture and none have been out of shot. In fairness personally I find 120 degrees a little too much 👍🏻

      @@nickhodgeUK I’m thinking about the k3. I have a Goldwing and dual mounted cameras currently. The DVR is in my trunk so weather and vibration isn’t an issue. I think it’s a necessity on motorcycles to have the dual cameras. I keep looking for dual 4K cameras or at least more than 1080.

      @@tjernagel just reviewing the K3 at the minute. Hope to have unboxing and fitting video done in a week or so. Be careful with wanting high spec. There is the K5 if you really want 4K but the files are significantly larger and the footage needs big processing power to edit. I have 4K available on phone and GoPros but never use it for that reason. The K3 has a couple of extra features but is similar to the K2 in spec. The chipset and bit rate is higher. Hope to have some footage comparisons in the videos 👍🏻

      Hampstead Motorcyclists you could use the power from the EzyCan I would think? Not sure the draw needed. I used the INNOVV power supply as it was supplied and fitted nicely. I just used the live switching from my EzyCan (CanSmart is a Denali badged EzyCan)

      @@nickhodgeUK I was going to use the INNOVV power unit but rather than powering from the battery, running all of it from the Hex. Mine has a specific Accessory channel. I have my spots, horns and Danali brake lights running through it. On the other hand, if the Hex unit fails, they all fail, so perhaps I should run it all separate from the hex altogether. On a different note, I've been looking at buying it today, it seems a bit cheaper on Amazon and listed as "The 2019 Model" but if something goes wrong, perhaps it's better to buy directly from the INNOVV website.

      Hampstead Motorcyclists i bought mine direct from INNOVV UK and as I use footage for videos as well which practically means removing three very small screws. They sent me some spares. Iain glad it helped. Mine seems ok although I have to say I haven’t really looked in detail just a few of the clips. I do have some advice though. I always use Sandisk Extreme or Extreme Plus cards. Experienced frozen clips. I’m only a week in but seems fine now I am using an Integral Ultima 256gb card. Seems there are lots of write-ups about Sandisk and Dashcams. I use them fine for everything else but appears they are pants for that application. Hi, I have the ezcan fitted to mine. I noticed that on your you changed the rear light to a simple switched circuit. I have a rear brake light on mine and the only spare connection I have is for a phone charger. Would this be ok to connect it and change this to one amp ? And did you have to change it to 2amp after using it over time?

      Stevie Paynter Think I’ve got you now. You should be fine using that at 1A. The beauty of all this tech is the ‘fuses’ and ‘relays’ are replaced by electronics ‘reading’ an overload and shutting down circuits so you can do no damage. I would change the phone circuit to 1A and go with that. I have no issues for sure at that 1A setting on mine. Once you’re done apply ALL load (Lights, horn, innovv, etc) for as long as the neighbours will allow. If any circuit breaks then you’ll need to rethink but on/off ignition will reset the circuits. The likelihood of you having all on for a prolonged period is pretty much nil. You may for a short period (with horn blast) but not sustained. Remember also in daylight riding, you may have lights at 60% (that’s my setting) so they are not drawing full draw normally anyhow. Hope that all makes sense to you as it’s a bit of a brain dump. If not, I’ll try again 😂

      broderp if you’re comparing it with a GoPro (or other IS product) then I agree. If you look at its primary use as an evidential unit then it’s perfectly good. Interestingly. I’ve been saved in some recreational videos by the fact it’s ‘always on’ and whilst the quality is far from GoPro 4K standard, with care in post production it gives adequate quality. Horses for courses I guess. Hopefully improvements to come?
