Met a young man, 22, who came to my home to do roof work. I was so impressed with him. We had a wonderful conversation, at which point I realized how mature, polite, and wise beyond his years he was. He took a few minutes to engage a 70 yr old woman in meaningful, deep conversation. When he walked out the door, I told him his mother raised him well. His response: "I was raised in foster care. I lucked out." Blessed be all the women and men who take in children not their own, who raise and love them into successful adulthood. ❤🙏❤

I'm glad not all foster children come out totally traumatized by their life experiences. It's sad to admit. Sometimes foster care system takes these kids out of difficult homes but all we are doing is guaranteeing that their biological parents aren't harming them or putting them in danger. Sometimes it's simply an orphaned child with no family to take them in so they weren't even coming from a bad home to begin with. But entering the foster care system is no guarantee that they'll live a good life or have the chance at one. It just means they have a roof over their heads until they turn 18 and suddenly have to figure out how to support themselves. It's wild. I'm glad this young man is doing okay

What a wonderful human being and mother this woman showed herself to be and what an awesome MAN so full of love and gratitude this young boy has grown up to be. I never stopped her from searching her biological family...I've asked around too but have no leads. She was abandoned soon after birth and adoption was processed through Welfare Dept. I lost my husband almost 6 years ago, she isn't loved any less because he passed. All parents, blood or not...sending best wishes

What a beautiful story. Kenny made it because of the love and support of a loving, caring woman. For those who don't know many foster kids when they become adults they are on their own. There isn't the love and support we need as young adults. Some fall into homelessness, drugs and despair. Mom has a big heart, bless this family.

Hope you saw him in the Olympics, I watch the 12 Diamond League meets around the world each year. We get them on tv here in BC Canada. I also watch the Prefontaine meet in Oregon annually, and Pan American, and as I am in Canada- the Commonwealth Games. Of course Kenny would not be in the latter as the USA in not in the UK Commonwealth, but point is I watch all the Track and Field that I can and although I don’t generally support the Americans, he will be the exception now. A nice story and glad he ended up with a great Mum.

Great to watch this. Had the good fortune to meet this young man for a few minutes at the MLK center in Atlanta, some months back. He was introduced to us as an Olympic silver medallist. When given his name, I said "oh you ran 19.61", and he very modestly corrected me to the slower time "no 19.68" (at Tokyo). Spoke for a few minutes to a very unassuming, nice, young man. Didn't get to tell him that my favorite all-time track person is Tommie Smith - perhaps the GOAT in the men's 200m as well as the 400m. All the best in Paris and beyond.

Met a young man, 22, who came to my home to do roof work. I was so impressed with him. We had a wonderful conversation, at which point I realized how mature, polite, and wise beyond his years he was. He took a few minutes to engage a 70 yr old woman in meaningful, deep conversation. When he walked out the door, I told him his mother raised him well. His response: "I was raised in foster care. I lucked out." Blessed be all the women and men who take in children not their own, who raise and love them into successful adulthood. ❤🙏❤

I'm glad not all foster children come out totally traumatized by their life experiences. It's sad to admit. Sometimes foster care system takes these kids out of difficult homes but all we are doing is guaranteeing that their biological parents aren't harming them or putting them in danger. Sometimes it's simply an orphaned child with no family to take them in so they weren't even coming from a bad home to begin with. But entering the foster care system is no guarantee that they'll live a good life or have the chance at one. It just means they have a roof over their heads until they turn 18 and suddenly have to figure out how to support themselves. It's wild. I'm glad this young man is doing okay

I never stopped her from searching her biological family...I've asked around too but have no leads. She was abandoned soon after birth and adoption was processed through Welfare Dept. I lost my husband almost 6 years ago, she isn't loved any less because he passed.

What a beautiful story. Kenny made it because of the love and support of a loving, caring woman. For those who don't know many foster kids when they become adults they are on their own. There isn't the love and support we need as young adults. Some fall into homelessness, drugs and despair. Mom has a big heart, bless this family.
I actually met and talked to Kenny in the Eugene airport after Prefontaine, and I couldn't have met a nicer and classier guy. Ever since then, Kenny is my #1 favorite sprinter. Go get that gold! You're the best role model in the sport, in my opinion!

Hope you saw him in the Olympics, I watch the 12 Diamond League meets around the world each year. We get them on tv here in BC Canada. I also watch the Prefontaine meet in Oregon annually, and Pan American, and as I am in Canada- the Commonwealth Games. Of course Kenny would not be in the latter as the USA in not in the UK Commonwealth, but point is I watch all the Track and Field that I can and although I don’t generally support the Americans, he will be the exception now. Great to watch this. Had the good fortune to meet this young man for a few minutes at the MLK center in Atlanta, some months back. He was introduced to us as an Olympic silver medallist. When given his name, I said "oh you ran 19.61", and he very modestly corrected me to the slower time "no 19.68" (at Tokyo). Spoke for a few minutes to a very unassuming, nice, young man. Didn't get to tell him that my favorite all-time track person is Tommie Smith - perhaps the GOAT in the men's 200m as well as the 400m. All the best in Paris and beyond.
