First experience with RE1 was July 3, 1996. My Friends and I rented our first Playstation from Blockbuster, we rented RE1 because the box art looked scary, then took it home and pulled an all-nighter in my basement . What made the game even scarier was the fact Blockbuster didn't rent memory cards, so every time we died we had to start over from the beginning, lol. That boosted the fear-factor up to 11! We got as far as the shark level...probably dying 10-15 times that night, lol. Great times.
I remember my brother played through RE1 remake without saving. I took a nap when he started playing, and when I woke up, he got stabbed through the torso by the tyrant in the laboratory.
I appreciate that the developers are not afraid to try something new. I may not be a fan of every RE's gameplay style, but I can find something good or fun in each game ❤️
Excellent video! It's so interesting looking at old previews of games that were in development to see how they changed. Glad we got the "RE2 was made" timeline.
@ it was mostly the characters and the story they were telling that rubbed me the wrong way. The setting was fine and I actually enjoyed the first person perspective. Aside from that, I find few saving graces.
i got introduced to RE1 (Directors cut) from a school friend who lended it to me (and then burned it for me on CD) and for me i think it was the 2nd Game on the PSX that i ever played and while i TRIED to to be scared i was scared even by daylight :D i was 13 or so. RE2 was already out ...and was immediatly banned in Germany (or "it couldn't be advertised and sold for people under 18 years old") but of course EVERY teenager did play it and i also got it via a burned cd and that was the game i completed four times. For RE NEmesis they TRIED to make a "German Version" with turning the blood grey (which was kinda fine) but .... they also made that zombies did blink and then dissapear when they were dead so every "deco zombie" on the floor was not that scary since you knew "ok they will get up" and while i was hyped for RE4 and i liked the game; it wasn't a RE game for me anymore. It wasn't "scary" it was action action action so i never had the "OMG SHIT" moments when you got into a room full of enemies. so yeah for me RE ended with 4 (code Verionica, RE0 were ok though)
Me and my friends watched the Sweet Home movie on TH-cam recently. It was quite over the top Japanese horror title and you can see the RE DNA in it a lot more than the old game.
Psy can you please make an incredibly detailed and extensive timeline video covering everything in the resident evil canon with little side notes of films and shows and non canon games.....no pressure
It’s crazy that this is a 20 minute video and basically speed ran the info. There’s SO much going on with this series. Probably require a 12 episode documentary.
Everybody wants a RE Veronica remake or RE9 but no one is talking about the real problem. Capcom should make a remake on RE6 and fixed everything about it
@@JohnDoe-c4d6z I honestly don't know how they'd do it without cutting a lot out. Only idea I can think of is removing the many parts that repeat like the Ustanak fight and just have one long campaign where you bounce between all the characters kind like Revelations 1.
@JacktheStripper-tc5pn unless they retcon the whole story I don't see how they'd do that. The most important part of the story is Jake. His body being vital to curing the C Virus and all. And him and Leon only interact I think 2 times in the story?
Great video. But really struggled to get through this. The editing was insufferable. Presenter said someone went to bat for the game.. quick show them with a bat! Was just cringeworthy to watch at times.
I'm forever grateful for this series. The original RE2 was my main reason for getting a PS1 and I've been there ever since. Yes it has had some bad games mixed in with all the great ones. But I can't imagine my gaming life without it.

Yup! Perry was writing the first novel as the game was in production. Inconsistencies between the books and the games happen because she was writing them as the new games dropped, not knowing what was going to happen in the next one.
what resident evil was it where u started in a bar or sumthin and had a team of like 5 or 6 npcs that u had to protect? i could never get into that game. the only main line resident evil game that i never finished was code veronica. i got to the boss on the plane and didnt have the ammo or heath to beat him.
Outbreak! That's definitely one that's not a good entry point, for a lot of reasons... and to be fair that Code Veronica boss is a notorious choke-point!
@PVGaming_y2k why you trying to be edgy? 5 had it's good moments, 7 was brilliant and 8 was good goofy fun, remake of 2 was brilliant, 3 was pretty crap but good if you got it cheap and didn't think too much, and remake of 4 was brilliant.... Looking forward to 9 and the remakes of 0 and CV
Though RE6 almost a total turd. There were some neat mechanics I’d like to see other games try. Falling prone, with the ability to roll and shoot was pretty neat.
My first introduction to RE and Horror games was via RE2 remake. Absolutely loved the hell out of it and same goes for RE4 Remake as well. I just hope they can redo RE1 in their modern engine and remake Code Veronica. Also it is crazy how many times they reinvented themselves and kept up with modern trends only for it to be mostly successes

I remember when my Uncle introduced me to Resident Evil for the PS1 back in 1996. I was hooked ever since.
Oh man, OverBlood @ 13:45 really takes me back, poor Pipo 😢
Pipo 😭
They're rebooting the movies
By a good director too
Wasn't that what Welcome to Racoon City was? 🤔
@popatsot1 supposed to be another. Why they don't just do live action version ls of the games idk

The S D Perry books are actually really good. Especially for 1 & 2 as it blends the dual scenarios
I loved the SD Perry books growing up. I still have em all on my bookshelf
@cautionnerds got a few physical, a few on kindle
The another taken to give Capcom credit for is not just relying on RE franchise, like Monster Hunter, and bringing back Okami and Onimusha.
A game with nudity saved a huge gaming company and the gaming industry remains mostly prude.
RE has blown up so hard in popularity Japan has the Biohazard Walk the Fear VR survival walkthrough ride.
Low-key wishing I'd at least SEEN a Bowlingo.
This was excellent. Hope to see more like it. More on-cam Psy! ❤
Resident Evil helped fuel my love of zombies and firearms
This was great. Knew almost none of this stuff and learned a lot about a series I love playing. Thanks for the work
just knowing that RE7 was almost just more RE6 is a more frightening thought than playing the game
I actually would have preferred that.
@ well at least you're standing on your beliefs. I'm a lot more forgiving on RE6 than most, but the 7 we got was definitely the better outcome

Does anyone notice the zombie in the beginning in the police car in RE2 looks just like Leon?

Please, more stuff like this. Entertaining and informative!
You are now entering a world of survival horror
Would be nice to get a movie or show set in rancoon city Before the outbreak then show how it all started the riots the chaos that would be nice
"God damn bowlingo" 😂 you seem to astounded as to how it succeeded.
I heard RE9 is going to star Leon, not Jill

Capcom bent the Story/foundation of Resident Evil from a rpg of sort, to a fps 😢
