    Dude! That was so freaking informative! Please, please, please would you make a video how to wire up everything to just start a bike and shut it off with an M Unit! I currently trying to figure that out. Haha

    I got an m-unit for my weird k-bike project, but haven't wired it up yet. I'm a hardware dude rather than an electrical guy, so wiring up my project has been something I've been looking forward to doing because I know I'm going to learn a lot. I'm still a ways off though. Looking forward to seeing how the wiring up of your bobber goes!

    I know it’s an old video but it might help someone; to my knowledge you have the 30 amps fuse wrongly installed, the fuse should go on between the switch key and the M-unit, the switch key is what actually powers on the unit, the wire from the battery (positive) only powers the right side of the unit (outlets) only when it get the signal from the buttons (signals, light, brakes, etc.) and since the Unit has its own protection against shortcuts that might occur at the right side (positive side out) so a fuse on this side is useless

    OMG who disliked this video? it is very educational and deep on understanding motorcycle electrical. I love to buy this whole demo set to play with :) Classic Ocatne, can you make a vedio how to detect electrical problem with a multimeter? It is not necessary with the m.Unit but just for educational purpose. I have a Buell XB which has an electrical problem which power off when handle bar is turned and back on when turned back to its original position.

    Another idea for the kill switch would be to interrupt the lock ground input coming from the key. That way you dont have 12v on the handlebar

    Thanks for all that you do. This video covered how to power the gauge indicator lights for oil, neutral, and high beam but didn’t cover the turn signal indicator light. I’m trying to get it to light up with either indicator is on but ending up bridging the connection so all turn signals end up going off together. Do you have a recommended approach for this?

      Not sure without looking at a wiring diagram. I would assume it's just a key on power, ground, and the coil triggers in and out.

      It’s just a standard momentary switch. Same goes for the ignition switch it’s just a universal 3 position switch.

How is a starter relay wire goina fit in that tiny hole my wires like 8 gauge lol...im using a Icu box on a 2000 r6 would this m unit replace that ? So my igntion coils run to each other than to the ground and the ICU so i would just run them to the aux hole? Sorry I'm just a little confused .. I need to get this bike running ..lol

    Question for you: it seems like the M-unit will work with any switch since you aren't using the moto gadget switches they sell. Do you see any problems of using a regular set of ignition/blinker/headlight that you can find on amazon? do you need to ensure the buttons are momentary?

      Yes, everything else is inside the m-unit. If something shorts out it will turn the LED on the unit on and when you cycle the key it will reset it.

    I have a question about the antigravity battery you show in this video. Is the 4 cell usually enough for a cafe build? I’m working on a 1980 Honda CM400T and I would much rather buy the 4 cell than the 8 cell, but I’m worried it’s too small.

      If you plan to use an electric start the 4 Cell is going to be a little too small. Kick start only you should be good.

    Hey, real great video, just like many others you made! Have a question about the M-Unit as only now I am seeing this for the first time. So, I do understand the value of this M-Unit when used/installed in old bikes that have been completely stripped off their wiring harness. But what value such an M-Unit provides to working bikes that have no problems with their wiring harness? Say I have a 2020 model bike that I want to add auxiliary lights to it. What would be a good reason to use the M-Unit for such case? In other words, it is not clear, to me, as to what are the use cases for using such a device and what are the scenarios that it is not recommend using such a device...Perhaps you can further clarify?

    To be clear, installing this would mean ripping out your entire wiring harness (including fuses, relays, etc.) and running direct lines from all of your components to the M-Unit (and it will act as a fusebox/relay/etc. for all of them)?

      Correct, this is a solution to rewire the whole bike. I used it on my Triumph bobber to convert to a negative earth system. You only need one main power fuse and the rest is all handled internally in the M-unit. If you short something out you just power cycle the unit to reset it.

    first of all great job explaining the wiring setup! You really did a great job clearing things up. However in the munit schematics i cant find the 30 amp fuse you put in there in the beginning. What is that for? I thought the munit has internal fuses? And next what is this black ground distribution thing? I think i didnt really understand the "ground" concept. Can't i just connect all the cables ground i need at the exact same place/screw that is somewhere on the bikes frame?

      The 30 amp main fuse isn't technically required but it's not a bad idea. I wanted a little more protection in the event of a short. All of the individual components are internally fused so you don't need anymore fuses. I used a ground distribution block in my headlight so that I didn't have 8+ wires running to the two grounding points on the unit. You can use the frame as well as long as you make sure the negative side of the battery has a good connection to the frame.

      Classic Octane just got a new m-unit. The manual says the fuse is mandatory. Max of 40A. Maybe it’s with the new units?

    Question if I may . Currently building a street fighter. Japanese bike Suzuki. Trying to figure out something with the switch gear wiring. Have ordered momentry switches. The oem switch gear wiring harness , can the oem harness be wired to the momentary switches . As the standard loom all the wiring works as it should. Wondering if say I cut the oem switch gear could I then use the wiring to connect in the momentry switches Thanks for any information.

    Best M-Unit vid wiring I’ve seen. I have a question for you. I am just about to re-wire my cafe that has an munit. Too many mechanics couldn’t figure out the “newfangled” wiring when a problem popped up and they’ve created a rats nest.
    Currently there is an issue (I didn’t wire it) where no matter what is selected, hi or lo, both wires are hot with voltage leading to the bulb. The low beam looks good but the hi beam is super dim. The hi beam indicator on the acewell is always on. In the bulb, both the low and hi filaments are illuminated regardless.
    The wiring seems to be set up properly as far as the munit is concerned. What might cause this?

      That's a tough one. Have you verified it's programed properly? Make use the headlight is setup for the type of switch you're running (push button or two position switch)

      hey, yes, I made sure the handlebar configuration was correct on the programming side. I'm starting to think there must be a grounding issue somewhere... going to re-wire it this weekend hopefully. Pretty much guarantees I won't ride this bike this year... which I bought in August! Way more issues than anticipated

      No you don't he's just using it as a ground.Once your light or horn button is mounted its grounded through the frame. U can also run a single wire tail lite and m box can send for voltage when you tap the brake switches. The box can do alot more than he's showing you. Black Heart. Cycle

    Hey i’m in the same boat as some when it comes to the instruction manual. I’ve been watching your video and it’s been such a help. i think i just hit a wall in my set up. I’m running the same set up as yours in the video. but hit a snag because my bike was running a lot of after market components with the stock harness.
    i just have a 1995 Honda XR600R that is an AC only, kickstart bike but was modified by the previous owner who added a baja kit, digital tachometer, battery, Reg/rect
    Is there anyway you could give me some guidance on the wiring? or work with me on a diagram?

    Thank you so much for the awesome explanation. One thing I noticed, the m-unit has built in circuit breakers, but you still had fuses inline with the headlight. Is that just because you haven't cleaned those up or are they still required!

      Those are just bullet connectors. That's the headlight from my Triumph so I didn't want to cut those wires. You don't need any fuses outside of the main 30A fuse from the battery to the unit.

    How would you wire for the hazard signals with the m unit? I don't think you mentioned anything about a hazard switch unless I missed it.

      Yes, that's exactly what you would do. Ground one side of the switch and run the other side to both signal inputs. This is what the book says. "For starting the hazard light hold the push buttons for left and right turn signal for 2 seconds. If a
      turn light switch is used, the hazard light function can only be activated if an additional hazard light
      switch is activating both turn light inputs at the same time. The hazard light mode will stay active
      even if the main (ignition) switch is deactivated. "

      It's just a universal button from Autozone if I remember correctly. I didn't actually use this button on the bike.

      I was actually thinking about that for my Model A hotrod project when I get around to that. I don't think it would work for a more modern car as it doesn't have enough circuits to run everything (Fans, radio, A/C, heat, locks, windows, ETC)

    I'm not digging the idea that when 1 $300 plus unit decides to take a crap, my whole bike won't work. Might be nice for a show bike or a limited use bike, but wouldn't trust it for my daily.
