    I had the Sony 200-600mm 5.6-6.3 G Lens, I sold it because it is a bit too big and heavy for hiking and sometimes there was trouble with the stabilizer system in combination with the cameras IBIS which led to slightly blurred images. Now I got the Sigma 500mm 5.6 DG DN OS Sports Lens, which is very compact and Light weight, no trouble hiking for hours just holding it in your hands, I can recommend the Sigma.

      Hi, nice purchase the Sigma. Doesn't bother you cannot use 1,4x and 2x tc? Have you tried it with Sony tc or have you just switch to L mount? I thought it was the perfect 200-600 substitute, now I think I have to buy the 300 2.8, but double the price

    • @cameraprepper7938

      @@ph_anto No it does not bother me, I would not use teleconverters anyway ! I needed I crop from 61 megapixels, I still have 26 megapixels in APSC mode and that I can also crop from. I thought o buying the Sony 300mm 2.8, but then the Sigma 500mm 5.6 was announced and I ordered it. The Sony 300mm 2.8 is double the price plus teleconverters ! It is a mess to use teleconverters. I am happy with my choice of the Sigma 500mm 5.6 DG DN OS Sports Lens, I have used it a lot since March, it is very easy to use and you can hike with it in your hands for a long time without problems. About 300mm, sometimes I use my Sony 135mm 1.8 GM as a "300+mm", just cropping from 61 megapixels, still very sharp images !

    • @ph_anto
      @ph_anto 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cameraprepper7938 That's what I thought. I would use it with A7RV or A1 with crop mode, but with 200-600 and 300+2x in apsc I'd still have 900mm, with Sigma only 750. Due to centuries of unregulated hunting, here in Italy mammals and birds are very shy and millimeters are never enough.
      Anyway, thanks for your report!

    In September, I will make my first Safari. Therefore thanks for your useful information. If you still not get your peakdesign tripod, check out the HEIPI W28 3 in 1 travel tripod. I got it some years ago and I‘m very happy, because it gives you a more flexible and stable package for similar money and just a little bit more weight. Thanks a lot Karolina for the video.

    My gear is much like yours. The main kit consists of two A7R5 cameras and the 24-70 GM II and the 70-200 GM II. For travel I use two A7CR cameras and a 16-35 PZ and the 70-200 f4 G II with 1.4x teleconverter. My wildlife lens is the 200-600 G. But, the 300 GM is very tempting. Pelican case for Sony Tough, Lexar, and ProGuard cards. Tenba DNA messenger bags. A small laptop with two Samsung SSD drives when I travel. And various accessories.

    Much to heavy equipment .... and with my OM-SYSTEMS equipment I have lighter portable equipment with 3 cameras (OM-1 , E-M1X , E-M1II) 6 lenses 300mm f4 pro , 150-400 F4.5 Pro , 12-40 F2.8 Pro , 40-150 F2.8 Pro , 2 teleconverter 1.4 and 2.0 , and lens 7-14mm pro f2.8 Pro , and a 17mm f 1.8 for night . I am not a pro but I travel with this kit for years and put it in a Peak Design Bag. and Cube medium for the big lens and the cube large other lenses. In the bag chargers , big Garmin (street nav) , DJI Copilot 2TB , and a 10.5 inch iPad Pro. The cubes I can take out during the trip in the car so easy to separate . SD card holders are much too big for me... ! By the way all goes with me during the flight in the overhead storage . OM-System has no problems with dust .. even not during weeks in Kalahari .

      In have OM system with OM-1 and EM1x with 300 f4 and 40-150 f2.8. I also have Nikon Z8 with 500f5.6 and Z6ii with 100-400. I now find my OM system staying home more and more. The weight and size difference is such that it offers very little benefit. I travel into west , East and Southern Africa 8-10 x per year and then other trips as well. You look at the OM 150-400 and the new 150-600 weight is now in the same category is FF lenses. So, if weight is your thing, then yes, the bodies might still be smaller and lighter, if weight with a slight compromise is not an issue as I also carry all my gear in 1 backpack into any means of transport. The IQ is the big differentiator. If you claim reach, then the Z8 with 46 mp can shoot in 20 mp crop the 500 f5.6 becomes 750 f5.6 vs 600 f4 on OM. My point is this, technical comparison or analysis is useless. Uny system with a proper combination of lenses that fir your preferred style of shooting is the best pick for the trip. Have a friend that only use 1 Body with a 100-400 plus a mobile phone, have wone various awards, sell prints through galleries nonstop, and travel with it in a small shoulder bag.

    I have just seen your video and love it. I do wildlife photography for a long time and you are the first wildlife photographer I meet who is using exactly the same sony gear I personally use. Even the memory cards are the same. I am very happy with my sony lenses and the sony autofocus especially .I have also stopped using the sandisc drives and switched to samsung drives recently because they are more reliable! My camera bag is different and I will have a look at yours. If you want to purchase a new tripod I can recommend the Rollei Easy Traveller Tripod for you. It is very light and stable. The Peak design Tripod is too expensive for my taste. I have lived in Paarl SA for a few years and I am back in Germany for the time being. I know that certain things are difficult to get in SA. I am looking forward to your next video.

    Hi Karolina, nice video, thanks. I am a big Peak Design fan and backed a number of their Kickstarter campaigns including the travel tripod. However, that is the one Peak Design item I cannot recommend. It does fold nice and compact but it is not stable enough particularly with the lowest segment extended. The peculiar cross section shape of the legs may be good for compactness but not for flexural stiffness, which is key to tripod stability. I sold mine (carbon version) about a year ago. Cheers, Urs

      Hi! Thanks very much for letting me know highly appreciate the advice. Is there another tripod that small and lightweight for travel that you recommend? :)

    • @ursthomann3463
      @ursthomann3463 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had high hopes in the Benro Theta, but they took a number of wrong decisions at the end of the campaign and I will try to get my Kickstarter pledge refunded. I opted for the Max version. With Theta no longer being a viable choice I look into established brands like Gitzo, RRS, Promedia Gear, perhaps also FLM. Peak Design probably wins the compactness/lightweight competition on all accounts though, if that goes on cost of stability it is not a good compromise for me. That does depend on use case though. The PD will certainly fair better than your current super cheap tripod. Cheers, Urs

    Most airlines in SA are quite forgiving on weight especially carry on stuff , my question is your backpack looks very heavy and large .. does it fit in the overhead compartment of these aircraft ? I use a backpack called “ Mindshift “ very nice lightweight bags .. ! I have an interesting portable hard drive that you don’t need a computer for to upload your images to dump and empty your camera memory cards , you simply insert your SD or CF cards into it and it will automatically upload your files into its hard drive . Great gadget! This helps while out in the field without having to drag the laptop along your game drives in the vehicle!

      @@karolinanoreewild Hi Karolina .. ok the name of my portable hard drive is “ Colourspace UDMA 2 .. they are quite rare and not so cheap.. but really such a useful hard drive to have on hand if you out in the bush or just not able to have a laptop with you at the time . I upgraded my internal hard drive to SSD as I was concerned if I dropped it and damaged the old type of hard drive. So google this device or TH-cam it . I have had mine for some years now when I travelled to Namibia and Zimbabwe .. as I finish a days shoot I simply just plug my CF or SD card into the side of the unit and on the LCD screen it gives you options on it’s menu, hit the upload button and it’s just as fast as a laptop or close to it . That way your days shoot is backed up before you get back to camp , you can do this in the vehicle on your drive . So really handy to have , good luck finding one ! Let me know how you go ! Cheers

    I use pretty much the same camera gear and love it. My current backpack is the Lowepro tactical BP 350 AW II, which is great, but doesn't carry any extra, it doesn't even have side netting pockets for water bottles which still surprises me. Hej hopp, Karolina!
    Seems like a very capable bag. Can it take a 400mm prime across, or would you need to stuff it in like your zoom lens? (Meaning it would give you a shift of center of gravity to the side rather than having it down low.)
