Do any work long enough and a variety of projects will present themselves. Some will be fun, easy and memorable while others will be difficult, arduous and I suppose memorable for an all together different reason. But this variety keeps the work interesting, the skills sharp and ultimately makes it worthwhile. Sometimes however, a painting comes along that you know from the outset will be a tough one and will fight you all along the way. These are the fighters, the bruisers, the brawlers.

@Agares Picero It’s good for when you’re bored in class, but I wouldn’t say that it’s fun for like a hobby. The oils on your hands mean the glue doesn’t stick to them very well (unlike, apparently, a painting!), so you can just peel it off in one sheet. It smells kinda funny, though.

This video reminded me of that one time I had to clean up my grandma's apartment. The electric stovetop was so grimey that you couldn't see the white rings on it, denoting where the burners were.
I've spent five hours and two cans of cleaning agent to remove the grime, scraping with metal wool for at least an hour until it looked almost good as new.
When grandma came home, I asked when was the last time she'd seen the stovetop clean.
She said never, it was too grimey to see anything _when she moved in._ She thought it was not possible to clean at all.
Sometimes the impossible just takes a lot of time and a _lot_ of scraping.

Hi Julian; we often see you restoring paintings that had previously had poor conservation work done on them. I've never seen an example from you where a painting was well-conserved by someone else a long time ago, and now it's your turn. For example, you often say, "I'm using this fully reversible adhesive, so that if there's some method to fix this problem in the future, conservators then will be able to undo my work" or things like that. But I've never seen you uncover an example of that from a predecessor 50 years ago or whatever. Do you ever get situations where a past conservator did the best they could for their time and now you can fix a problem they weren't able to back then?
