If you watch the credit sequence really carefully, one of the pictures from the og comic explain why Mordecai didn't shoot Ivy! To put it short he got... some history.

The sketch lines are actually added after cleanup, with very careful consideration. Personally I love the look it gives it. One of the animators have made an interesting video about it.
I also highly recommend the comic, tho ofc. I understand if you'd rather go in blind if/(when) we hopefully get a full show. Could be quite a while tho before they find the funding

12:43 lil spoiler from the Lackadaisy tumblr, Rocky’s character card reveals he WAS at a circus, some clues in his bio to explain how he developed this mental state.
And BE PREPARED for some comic panels of Rocky, you’d b in for a surprise 🙃

I read the webcomic since around 2006 and it’s still one of my favorite things on the internet. It’s not even finished, and isn’t even all that long, but it’s such a masterpiece. More work goes into one page if it than goes into most complete webcomics. The art has layers, the plot has layers, the characters…you get it, they have layers too. Every line of dialogue is sharp and to the point. Tracy Butler, the author and artist, is a true talent. Lackadaisy has everything: drama, action, comedy, poetry, character study, romance, mystery, tragedy…and everything fits together so well. Just go read it!
I’m super super happy with the pilot and hope the crew gets to make everything Lackadaisy.

There's a very informative picture in the end credits.

I was surprised when I watched your first reaction and Alec wasn't there to see it. I'm glad that's been rectified!

Love seeing you both react to it now! I'm just popping by to let you know that the Season 1 teaser just came out! You should react to it to spread the word, they're crowdfunding to make the first season of it.
They reached their first goal 11 minutes after the backerkit launched, but that's just for episode 1. It's still a long way from funding the whole season.

I don't normally condone spoiling, but since you did ask, I'll tell you this much.
Mordecai used to be a part of the Lackadaisy Gang back when they were the most successful bootleggers in St. Louis. But after the gang's leader Atlas, Mitzy's husband, died and business went sour, he jumped ship and joined the more successful Marigold Gang, run by Asa Sweet. Rocky was just a band member back in the good old days and rarely ever spoke to Mordecai, and Freckle only recently joined after washing out of the police academy due to his anger issues, so Mordecai had no qualms about killing them. But Ivy is a different story.
Ivy is Atlas' goddaughter and basically grew up in the speakeasy. Despite being a ruthless pragmatist, Mordecai just couldn't bring himself to shoot someone he's known since she was a little girl if he didn't have to.

The sketch lines are FULLY intentional and not out of laziness like you two seem to think they are. They made the conscious choice to have them there for the stylistic choice.

    Bonus Lackadaisy!
For me the mellow colors are greatly part of the appeal. It brings to mind the old Don Bluth cartoons of the 80s. So much of modern animation is way over-saturated in my opinion. With a more naturalistic color scheme, scenes like the opening can really shine as something special, because you don't get quite the same quality to the *sparkle* if all of the colors are overly bright. The contrast is what makes those moments magical. And I don't think that vibrantly saturated colors could really evoke the nostalgia that is so much a part of the story and world of Lackadaisy.

13:33 So I can answer that, but im not sure if it's a spoiler or not.
He knows her, they have a past, that's why one of the other criminals asks if he is gonna help them or not because he's to sentimental.

Glad Alec enjoyed it too. I love the creole accents the Savoys have. The actors just nailed it. I love all these characters so much. You two should really read the comics too. Its a fun story and they did such a good job translating the personalities of the characters to the pilot.

I will not spoil anything about Viktor, but yes, he IS interesting. Certainly seems to be a change of pace that he's the bartender tonight...

Yesss I'm so glad both of you watched it now ! I really love Lackadaisy (both the comic and the pilot) and I really hope they will be able to make more ! I like that they kept the sketch lines a lot, it reminds us that it's animation and that people drew every single frame. They also show part of the process of animation in the end credits. It's part of the reason why watching this pilot revived my passion for animation as a medium. I'm fine with 3D animation and CGI but I really really enjoy 2D, hand drawn animation, especially the style of the Disney movies from the 1960s and 70s.

I've always loved the stylistic choice to include sketch lines. I'm always so confused when reactors point out sketch lines and start making fun of it

I think I could go either way on the line/draft work remaining in. I know they did it deliberately for an oldschool vibe and as a nod to some old animation stuff, but I also don't think I'd particularly feel anything was off if they'd gone fully clean, or even fully notice if in future releases they didn't do it. I do like it just fine, but maybe I just don't focus on the little details as much as some folks do.

Well Mordecai used to be a part of the lackadaisy crew during It's golden age, so (despite his claims to unbiased professionalism) his situation and feeling on current going ons are more complicated then they may first appear.

On the topic of independent animation, you guys should really consider watching and reacting to "A Fox in Space"! Two episodes are out so far, and the third and final episode will be out in a few years.

Awesome reaction! Please consider reacting to Monkey Wrench, Ep 1 (Ghost Egg) and Ep 2 (Lythop Liberation). It’s like Earthworm Jim mixed with Cowboy Bebop and Final Space.

It's probably not the place to mention but if you brothers like the anime Cowboy Bebop than their an animation on TH-cam call Monkey rench that's like Cowboy bebop it's nicely animated and pretty funny.

Hopefully this show gets to make more, which I bet it will because this Pilot was awesome!! I like the use of keeping the sketch lines, because while they're subtle they also add a bit more flare to the animation of the characters as a whole. It's not something you see done very often anymore, but when it does pop up it's very nice to see I think! Also, I suspect the reason Mordecai didn't take the shot the second time around is either because he knows the trio who were driving away, has connections or a past to Lackadasiy somehow, or just simply didn't think it was worth it. I haven't read the comics (but i want to now after seeing this!), but those are my guesses!
