My dad took me to see this movie when I was really young. The plot had played out so many times on my train sets and train toys. That’s just what you do when you are 8 years old and still obsessed with trains. Seeing all those train fantasies actually play out on the big screen was a dream come true. Times were so simple back then…
No less than 5 helicopters all circling each other, a convoy of emergency vehicles on an adjacent highway to two trains ramming into each other on the tracks with a guy on a rope wildly swinging around above the trains. Scott may not have had the lust for explosions as Michael Bay, but he knew how to direct action scenes like nobody else could.
Let's be honest, even if the train didn't explode a crash like that is more then likely gonna leave a lot of broken bones. And if Judd ended up hitting his head during that... last stop, end of the line.
If they'd had a second person on the blue train this wouldn't have happened. Instead of just lowering a guy in by helicopter (which is difficult to do to begin with) the second person on the lashup could've just hopped onto 777 from the back.
This is practically my favorite movie. But at 1:29, you see 777 slam into the Lashup, jump the switch, and then slam into the lashup again! It’s like the train went back into time.
This is my main gripe with this movie. So many times it seems the train jumps back in time. Its alot closer in one shot, it cuts away to show some action, then its basically at the exact same spot as the previous shot. Still love the movie even so.
If diesel fuel transformed into vapour during impact, spark has the potential to cause explosion. This has happened back in 1999 when two trains collided near Ladbroke Grove in London.
So let me get this straight. After pulling the 2 SD40's in front to slow down the train, they switch the track to allow it to take the siding, but directly after the 777 hits the 7346, the 2 locomotives take the siding but somehow magically the 777 and rest of train continue down the main? There wouldn't have been enough time to switch the tracks back given the distance between the two consist of locomotives. If the director had any knowledge of how railroads work they would know it's not realistic for the 777 to not take the siding as well, for trains only go where the rails take them. Furthermore locomotives do not just spontaneously combust when they fall on to their side.
They took two sets of footage and edited 777 in to the sence cause it's impossible for one train to go down one track and the other right behind it to keep going. Just watch the behind the sences video
It’s just entertainment, pure fun and big fiery explosions, the public wouldn’t know how the rails operate unless you’re a foamer ;). And trainman1000 wtf? Do you even know what you’re talking about?
You're right, T7 would completely eliminate that helicopter but I guess it took off because it's in the air at 0:12 and not there at 0:15. Still, they cut that really close.
