Well, not all of her was scrapped. 1111/2626's bell was salvaged, and it's on display at the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Sugarcreek, Ohio (which is also where Gettysburg/Canadian Pacific 1278 is at).

The Four Aces, set precedent by showing Roller Bearings in the heaviest services, and at speed! Consider now, every locomotive and cars(passenger and freight),is on roller bearings, and the legacy of that engine has been long lasting! That is one engine that definitely needs to be recreated, and since it was built to NYC standards,an additional S-1b could be its sister engine! One can dream! Thank you 😇 😊!

@@TheFunnyDictator It would be a tie between the NYC S-1b,and the UP 4-8-4's,as both came out of Schenectady, and shared similar characteristics! Both have never been full out,to really find the absolute speed limit! I do know, from NYC Employee Timetables,on the racetrack from Toledo to Elkhart, they were allowed 120 MPH,so like many other engines,in making up time, they did many feats, but it remained unrecognized! The Hudsons were no slowpokes, either! Mayhaps, some one, somewhere has data, under the table information!?? Anyway, thank you for your attention! Thank you 😇 😊!

Funny, but, jokes aside, Alfred Perlman actually worked for Northern Pacific when he was younger, and he only scrapped (most of) the steam engines on NYC because of that company's dire financial situation at the time, not out of malice or hatred like Darkness likes to jokingly depict.

They are at the McKinley Museum if I remember correctly.

So, when I ask you if you want the less expensive wheel hub (bearing) installed in your car or the more expensive Timken brand bearing, how are you going to answer? I know what some people say: "Give me the cheapest bearing you've got". Only my smart customers opted for the 20 to 40 dollars more Timkens. How did that purchase turn out for them? I've warrantied ONE Timken automotive bearing in my entire career since 1980. Spend your money once, or spend it lots of times.

The fact that fully sealed roller bearings this locomotive somehow made it outperform even some of the steam locomotives of C&O when going on the Allegheny mountains makes me wonder how advanced steam locomotives can truly be today? Perhaps it'll perform just as if not better then diesels if they bother to kept 1111 around which was never meant to be, who knows? Maybe now that the extincted steam locomotives like the PRR T1, LNER P2, LNER B17, and BR standard Class 6 are coming back, maybe they could put them to the test to see if they are worthy to do mainline work and co-exist with diesel and electric for years to come.

Another great, awesome locomotive lost to time. It truly is a shame she didn't go back to Timken Bearing Company. Maybe in an alternative universe she would have been preserved and possible restored to run excursion runs. Does anyone know if a model (HO scale) was ever done on this locomotive. If not, this would be a great contender here.
