Having Littles is hard, if we take the time to slow down and teach them, soon they will become the BIG help that we need. But that in of itself is sooo hard. We are often times way too distracted with many things in life that would take our time away from doing homestead like things like the things in their videos .

I ordered a starter kit from cultures for health around 2 weeks ago and my kids (ages 1, 5, and 17) love the kombucha. I flavor it with blueberries and vanilla for the second ferment. Now if I could get my husband to give up Pepsi for kombucha it would be a total win. Thanks so much for the video. I would love to hear/see some other flavor combinations.

I''m not a fan of carbonation/effervescence, so I drink shrub that I learned how to make on Off Grid with Doug & Stacy. Apparently, that can also be mixed with sparkling mineral water to make a "soda replacement", but I'll just be using my usual filtered tap water. I'll have to tell my sister about this though - I bet her grandkids might like a special drink, and I know she'll like them not having soda.

I used all kinds of flavors, strawberry, blueberries, mangoes and ginger were some of the favorites. I was convinced that it was a very healthy drink until I did research and found out that it is absolute death of the diabetics which I am one. But my kombucha favorite flavor is also ginger pineapple lol. But watch out tge pineapple ginger combo make both kefir and kombucha extremely explosive lol but that fizz is phenomenal.

I’ve watched alot of videos on kombucha and people seem to leave it for long time for the first ferment and then leave it for a second ferment and I think that’s when it tastes vinegary. 10-12 days seems to be good fermentation time. I decant and drink. A friend taught me to make and she left hers for 10 days until she decants. I forgot mine one time and left it for 12 days and to me it taste perfect. Recently I tried a different way to flavour, I tried green tea with fresh pineapple. I have the same gallon jar that she has and I did it that same way except I use the gallon jar to brew, mashed two slices of pineapple with a fork to get the juices out and I put juice and pineapple pieces in the brewed tea, add my scoby, covered it and left it for actually 11 days because it’s been so hot here(I live in the Caribbean) and it came out perfect. 😊

@@parkiescreation77 I love the vinegar hint so it doesn't bother me in the least.
Ive also let mine go to almost vinegar to use as vinegar in salad dressing. Or as a sprinkle over tomatoes.
Unfortunately my kids and grandchildren do not like vinegar that much so the water kefir was the way to go there.
It does go vinegary if over brewed or let go too long but its all a matter of testing and taste per person.

@Emeraldwitch30 that is so true about taste preferences how long can I leave one until it goes to vinegar would love to use something like that on my salads!!

@@parkiescreation77 I think I left it to ferment like about a month. I had extra SCOBYs so I started a whole different gallon(I'm a chronic reuse it person and got a bunch of glass olive/pickle gallons from my bil restaurant they just throw them away).
I just let it bubble away until it was super sour. Like when you let kimchee go too long in the fridge lol.
Then I strained it into bottles and labeled them kombucha vinegar in the fridge and I did burp them occasionally so no exploding bottles.
If you like red wine vinegar I often wondered if I could just put about a half cup per bottle to mimic that flavor or add grape juice and let it ferment too.
A restaurant I used to work in ordered in champagne vinegar for their vinegrette and I've never found it sold anywhere. I wondered if I could add that to my kombucha vinegar? But I do worry that most wines have sulfides to stabilize them and if that could cause the vinegar to not be as active biologically lol

@Emeraldwitch30 thank you for your info!! Maybe give it try in a small bottle or if u know any wine who has homemade wine maybe try that. I actually have a scoby hotel I have scobies in with the liquid. Would that liquid be used for vinegar. I’ve had it there for about 3 months now.

For the continued brew can I use a glass jar or should I use something light sensitive like yours?

Don't allow kombucha onto a property with a septic tank. It will grown into a giant mushroom which you'll have to chop up when you empty your septic tank. That scoby really GROWS.

How do you keep your spout from getting clogged up? I'm guessing a tiny Scooby pellicles grows in mine, making it terribly hard to bust through. Any advice??

I've never made kombucha and want to try this recipe but I'm wondering....if you only made black tea to start off with, why is it coming out orange? Or did I miss something? Thanks! Your little girl is darling!

I think that must be the way the kombucha scoby metabolizes the tea and sugar

Hey there! I’m wondering if these can be made with kombucha that’s bought from the farmers market if we haven’t made our own?
