      I did the Reverb.com quiz twice, gave the same answers both times. First time it came up with a growing modular setup, which is way off, I don't own a single piece of modular. Second time, and keep in mind, I gave the same answers, it came up with soft synths + DAW, while closer is still some ways off. Funny how the exact same answers, result in what can only be described as the direct opposites.
      Now a small plug for me: I'm playing live @ The Beach in Aarhus this friday afternoon!

    Good show as always and what an absolutely marvelous explanation on the digital summing that goes on in 8 and 12 bit drummachines when using the stereo out. That alone makes this episode worth watching.

    RE: 909 mix out, it's an analog summing amp (L&R). All instruments are normalled to the mix out (only removed from the mix outs if individual out used). Some instruments are also weighted between L&R (panned). The most interesting thing is the ac-coupling caps in the summing mixers are a little small and the kick from the mix outs has significantly less low frequency then the individual out. Never really heard it mentioned before but it's night and day.

    I just noticed that Yoad's mixer lights look a lot like the countdown timer on the Predator nuclear self destruct device.

      It actually YOAD's name written with the lights.This feature alone worth the price of that Neve mixing desk...as well as justified electricity bills

    I'm pretty certain that the IdeaScale stuff from Yamaha is coming from their recent changing of the Line 6 HQ and certain personnel to become the Yamaha Guitar Division. This is because for many years now Line 6 has used IdeaScale to collect user suggestions for their recent modelling products like HELIX. So this is one beneficial bit of synergy resulting from the successful delegation of Guitar product development to the L6 Calabasas office.

    lol I took the synth quiz and it guessed "A small analog synth like the Minilogue or Microbrute". I have the Korg Monologue and the first 3 Volcas, so... pretty damn accurate.

    Hey Nick, Steve, Yoad and Charles (yes you too Charles), what about doing a playlist of your “awkward” remixes? Also Nick, you probably had this request several times but it would be fun to learn more about your remixing career in detail, the obvious one but also other stuff. And maybe your work with Goldfrapp?
    Also Steve, would be very fun hearing more about Dubstar years... And what the ... Yoad should do more mix tutorials. Give us some PSB multitrack mixing breakdowns maybe? : ) But probably not possible because of Waves' contracts?
    And Charles you should do a Howard Jones and OMD live rig run through.

      I'm not sure if they exist anywhere (at least mine) I have done a few interviews, one with Paul Dither and one with Bo beats quite recently - I cant recall how much detail we went into on those, but I cant really interview myself :-)

    Yamaha need to redo the RM1X/RS7000 and use the same soundset as the Motif XF and have sampling. It's totally the time for the return of Grooveboxes! They could make a smaller version that can be battery powered too.

  • @zerix01
    @zerix01 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I took the quiz. It said a growing Eurorack rig.... Actually that is the one thing I have not touched yet lol. I guess I use my synths in a modular way so it is close in spirit anyway.

    Benefit of that huge corporation is that they can design and manufacture their own key bed. DX7 yay! : )
    Just realized how large Yamaha Music Co is, from corporate profile: “Number of Employees (Consolidated): 20,228 (Excluding average number of temporary employees: 7,558)” (Just a tiny bit more than number of Spotify employees...)

    Logic's instruments sounds amazing. Better sound than some new soft synths and the logic stuff's made so many years ago.
