“I remember what mum said on her death bed.” “Blimey she didn’t ‘arf say a lot on her deathbed. She must have spent her last hours rabbiting.” “Rodney you’ll cop an unfortunate one.” (Conversation) “Send Rodney to get the fish.”
Cheers for reminding me of why I used to go to the pub instead of watching a bunch of ex public school boys and girls doing jolly funny impressions of 'ordinary' folk like us.
I was 12/13 at the time yet surprised how R.P. (received pronunciation) or "Queen's English" almost everyone sounded, considering that it's associated more with with TV (or the Pathe films) from at least 20 years earlier.
I like it when they were still people who spoke like that not that I speak like that myself it just sounds nice hearing it on the BBC instead of the mock class free accent that dominates now
Yes, there's one announcer who said her h's as "haitch" when reading out the lottery results (etc.), then two weeks later, she said it properly. I think there were complaints! There's also a "street"-sounding announcer on the BBC now, it really grates. I'm not a snob, honest :D
I'm not bothered if not all the letters were genuine - this was a great programme in it's day, Come back Barry Took (if you're not dead that is). Well Done The BBC!
First time I heard McCartney singing 'When I'm 64' I was staggered at his level of cheek, blatently plagiarizing the Points Of View theme. When, oh when, will the BBC wake up and realise.....
I was just laughing at how expensive £2 a beer must have seemed in the early 80s. I was in Oslo last year...most places are about £10 a beer although I did find an Irish pub that was around £6.
Their comments on here a certainly more aggressive than some of the PoV's today. I do hope someone writes in that most favourite of catchphrases, 'Well done the BBC; another winner!'
By and large I would agree, par example- R.Toft from Whittlesford, Cambridge?! Give me a break! Although I will say that I did actually know of someone that got a letter printed once so perhaps it was not all fiendishly internal!?!
I wonder if the viwers who wrote letters in 1985 would think "Hole in the Wall", "utter mindless trash"! LOL! Amusing though, I still find Points of View and viewers comments ridiculously funny!

Must be Tuesday 19th March 1985. Interesting that the students call Took a "wet" - perhaps they were members of the Federation of Conservative Students, disbanded for being too radical by that noted exponent of post-war consensus politics, Norman Tebbit?
Barry died in March 2002 before I got to meet him. He's my great Uncle!
Thats a great accolade to have! I loved your great uncle on Points of View , always very sarcastic and funny!
@@fraserkatieI'm too young to remember Barry on points of view. I remember Anne Robinson onwards
I always loved that globe ident. Gorgeous.

£46 pounds for the TV licence. Boy, those were the days!
Barry Took's face and voice were the inspiration for the character of George out of Rainbow. true
This was the only way to troll in the 80s :)
I'm not bothered if not all the letters were genuine - this was a great programme in it's day, Come back Barry Took (if you're not dead that is). Well Done The BBC!
Barry took? you're so 2000 and late mate
First time I heard McCartney singing 'When I'm 64' I was staggered at his level of cheek, blatently plagiarizing the Points Of View theme.

Subtle and underrated.
Points of View was basically Twitter before the Internet.
that's a shame, I used to think he was sort of my uncle on telly..I always liked Points of View with him on.
Two pounds for a glass of beer!
Also love the fact that people were writing it as B.B.C. Where did those dots go?
£2 for a glass of beer in Norway? Outrageous!!!
I'd immigrate if it was still the case in 2017 if its four pounds over here it must be a tenner over in Norway now.
I was just laughing at how expensive £2 a beer must have seemed in the early 80s. I was in Oslo last year...most places are about £10 a beer although I did find an Irish pub that was around £6.
2 quid for a Norwegian beer?! I shittem!!
Anyone else recall the Alas Smith and Jones spoof points of view?
Wasn't that "NOT THE NINE O'CLOCK NEWS"?

£2 for a beer sounds quite reasonable..
Compared to about 40p for a pint of beer in a pub then, quite pricey.
tv licence £46, back then??? Anyway, i loved this show with barry took and michael aspel.
Were these letters genuine??
@adrian795 It would be now, but it wasn't then!
By and large I would agree, par example- R.Toft from Whittlesford, Cambridge?! Give me a break! Although I will say that I did actually know of someone that got a letter printed once so perhaps it was not all fiendishly internal!?!

Barry Took had No Legs
Anne looks somewhat more attractive when she was younger.
The neanderthal comment hahahaha.
Griff Rhys Jones should have replaced Barry Took on PoV!
Crikey this is old people are writing in hahahaha
MOCK THE WEEK
Where the fuck's Took?
The BBC was getting carried away with their cheap special effects back then.
lol
