Agreed on recruiting mages. The 1st 2 recruits i beelined for was auch and yahna. Then i went after mordon and rolf. Basically get your anti-armor units 1st. Anit-evade units next. Then whatever you want. Agreed as well on the importance of leaders. IMO the top 5 leads in the game are: 1. Josef 2. Auch 3. Yahna 4. Rolf 5. Sharon
@@89Games agreed. Yahna in particular is the most useful. If you're pushing with josef (or clive/adel), alot of times the support squads will lag behind. Yahna's squad however can easily teleport (costs valor) when josef's squad is in range of a bunch of enemy squads/the boss.
@@HeySchmoo use him now. You wont use him later once you get more recruits. I just hit mid game (2.5 continents finished), and i dont use Josef anymore. Hes really a starter character. The only ones i use from the starting team are clive (knights are awesome) and alain (who was out of my lineups for a while until i got him promoted). Josef is not optimal anymore mid-game.
Yeah, I noticed that myself on another demo playthrough. I'm going to try to find another way to maximize honor as it seems to come somewhat slowly, of course that's probably by design.
Regarding the honour points you get out of map enemies, in some occasion, I got 2 honour out of winning, why? how? no clue, kinda wish I knew what I did to be awarded an extra point haha
Personally no, but as @degreeskelvin3025 just said I've heard others say too. I also haven't specifically looked for it, but I know I'm getting resources because after a while I've got way more than I feel I personally harvested.
So question. Do the town auxillary trades do anything other than award some exp, renown, and an item? Should i worry about those or just the restoration trades?
Like rob said. Auxiliary trades are just for the bonus exp and stuff as far as I know. Though the honor is nice to have for unlocking more units and hiring mercs.
Question, how important is hiring mercenaries? I'm aware that you naturally recruit multiple characters throughout the story and side content, but how necessary would you deem supplementing your army with hiring additional mercenaries be?
Well, in the demo I was able to have more slots than I had characters after upgrading my unit capacity and unlocking more units, so I would imagine later on you'll need to recruit to fill out your units, though this isn't a major concern in the early game I suppose. That said, of all the characters we can gather in the demo, none of them are repeat classes. So if you want to build more specialized units with more than one of a class in it, you'll have to recruit.
I'd say its not important. In fact, if you want to optimize and tackle harder challenges earlier, you're better off never hiring (at least in the demo). Honor is a precious resource. It is key that you save it for getting your squad size to 3 and 4. Having at least 2 squads with 4 slots is great. Better if you have 3 (this is what i ended up with). Theres also alot of characters to be gotten. You wont have enough squads for all if you hire.
Necessary? Not at all. Fun and helpful? Perhaps. I beelined for a Gryphon Knight and hot dang she makes a lot of fights trivial, combination of good stats (depending what you need) flight as leader, solid magic defense and either the starting weapon or an easily found upgrade hits an entire row. She can absolutely nuke teams that aren't armored.
@@Badger3X imo not needed once you get fran.early. You get another not along time for that in celeste. The biggest power spike in squad performance is getting to 5- man squads amd promoting early. Recruiting competes with that. Of course, if you find it fun and want a unit early while ignoring the quest that gives you one early, then yeah do it Personally, i'd rather save.honors. i dont run a big squad (5 teams) and i'm mid-game grinding for honors because each level 5 upgrade costs 200 a pop. Promotions cost 30-50 a pop. And i didnt recruit a single generic. Agreed on gryphon knights. One of the better units in the game and something i'd put in the top 10-15. Great tank, deals aoe. Can self-heal. Only weakness is lack of good single-target, lack of control and lack of good equipment options (axes are arguably the weakest weapon type and they have few "uniques"which are really strong aside from the wyvern belt).
Having played a lot of the game now no, mercs are not necessary at all considering how many characters the game lets you recruit in the story. The biggest need for mercs would be if you want to build very specific units perhaps with multiples of certain classes. I could see doing this in the online arena maybe, but campaign wise I don't think it's necessary.
@@89Games honestly it's just impressive if anything. For instance Chloe starts out with a completely useless heal setting to less than 100% instead lowest HP. I changed that like immediately. I'm sure your game got a lot easier after you realized that
@@donniecupples6721 it's funny actually. As I started setting conditions, I made them way too specific to the point that some of my characters were just skipping all their turns lol! Setting tactics the right way through does definitely make things easier.
A Good Thing about tactics is that there are specific "only do if" ones like "only attack iv enemy is under 50% hp otherwise font attack ag all" and target priorities like "lowest hp" that will focus a specific enemy but will always choose a target and execute.
Final Fantasy XIII isn't great. Many feel the series started to turn away from what made it great at XII. XII was originally a PS2 game but rereleased as a Zodiac Age edition with adding content. I suggest starting with IX or VII. The first i think has the best story as was a tribute to what Final Fantasy originally was. The second is the most famous deservidly so.
As someone that's played every strategy rpg in western release I will say, this is the best one I've ever played. Its brillant.

Yep, those support abilities those characters have are super important. Enough long range support can make a tough battle, like bosses, super easy.

I’ve deliberately been not using Josef because his level is so much higher I assumed he’d no away eventually. Not far in, maybe 5 hours.

Great video! Awesome tips! Love people posting unicorn overlord content.
Hey, thanks!
4:55 - when you liberate an area you get 1 honour point per unit that gets cleared, so I assume you will get this either way

Maybe some units are just worth more, I guess? So much to dig into when we get the full game!
Have you noticed any kind of notification for when you get resources from town?
On the right after every battle. Basically the sameplace you get updates about quests and stuff

Just do the restoration deliveries until you have tons of extra delivery items. The non-restoration deliveries just give what they give. Nothing else.
