Steam engines can do almost anything, but DAMN if the snow doesn't really stress-test that statement.

funny enough, here in northern washington, the big lake we have had like 4 lumber mills along the shores back at the turn of the century, and rail lines were everywhere. To the point where in the winter theyd just lay track across the short part of the lake to save time lol
Those mills have been gone since the 60s though and same with the rail lines unfortunately

I want to call bull on the idea of the Russians laying an ice railway over Lake Baikal, which is the deepest lake in the world, but at the same time, it is the Russians we're talking about. Regardless of whether they have a Tsar, Premier, or Putin in charge, the Russians have proven to the world time and time again that there is nothing they can't build with a little bit of engineering smekalka, which normally involves duct tape, bubble gum, shoe polish, and a lot, and I mean A LOT of vodka.

if I had access to an ice rink and a battery operated steam train, id like to see if it would even be able to keep momentum or would the wheel flanges just slip and the train stall out eventually
