300 fps is the spec no one else has, and it's glorious. But you also can't autofocus in 240 fps which even the lowly Fuji XS10 could do. Also 4k 120fps loses human/animal detection which Canon, Nikon, Fuji and Sony can do with bigger sensors.
The G9II has phase detect autofocus but watch the test videos. The focus stair-steps. No pulsing but not a smooth transition from out-of-focus to in-focus. I'm surprised it's not being mentioned much.

Yes - you’ve articulated my frustration perfectly! I’ve been researching cameras to buy for the last 6 months, I’ve watched hours and hours of TH-cam reviews on Sony, Panasonic etc and just when I think I’ve found the perfect camera, I find something wrong with it. Close to pulling the trigger on a Canon R5C and GoPro12. Crazy that it’s almost 2024 and they can’t get battery issues right. Very entertaining videos, thank you!
I miss the G80/85. Probably the last balanced camera I know of. I smile when I whip mine out of hibernation and shoot with it. Its 8 bit files stand up well compared to some of the GH6 10 bit stuff. And with iDynamic HIGH the DR is remarkable for such a small package. I'm going retro in disgust sometimes. And then TH-camrs lure me back in with the promise of near perfect autofocus and USB 3.2 SSD support and the ability to fill a 1 TB SSD with Prores footage that no-one really needs for anything unless you actually ARE shooting a cinema epic for movie theatres. (Are there stil any around??) Oh, and did I mention I got the battery grip for it? I can now shoot all day (or night - with Neat Video ISO 1600 is quite doable, and who shoots in dark alleys anyway? (Appart from the ones who shoot up?) Anyways - thank you for setting my brain cells working along these lines! I will now place an order for a G9M2, subconsciously knowing that there's a GH7 wit 300fps AF with animal eye detect and Prores raw out soon. How do I know? Because I once took strategic marketing classes. And I read Machiavelli. "Do evil in one hard blow, but sprinkle kindness over time." That's how princes stay in power and camera makers make money for their masters. Amen.
I'm not sure if companies understand marketing. For example Panasonic. They put significant money into FF coming as the last to the party. They have awesome cameras, except there was nothing in MFT for six years so I supposed that they had no balls to say it's dead and used only for video. People are begging for small, weather sealed cameras. They released GX9 which is not that small due to viewfinder, not weather sealed and then completely ignored whole market. Except they released some vlogging camera that no one wanted with features vloggers hated. And then they release G9II which seems awesome, except it's bigger than most of APSC cameras and some full frames. G80mkII would be much better for me. Change 10 years old sensor for something competitive, give it USB-C with power delivery, increase battery capacity, add some useful film simulations and good b&w mode, done. Well, some features for wildlive of G9II might be useful.

Imagine if Panasonic released an ACTUAL Videocam, with MFT sensor, MFT mount, fluid gimbal stabilisation built into it instead of IBIS similar to sony camcorders used to do it. 4k240p 10bit for 5 minutes 4k120 for 30 mins and 4k60 for 8 hours. And this thing is SHAPED like a videocam, with optional extras like XLR input or a built in shotgun mic, flippy side screen AND EVF on the BACK. Your closing statement is the exact reason why Sony doesn't firmware update the a7siii. There wouldn't be a need for the last/next ten cameras they release every 3 months.
Exactly, it’s a business decision. I was anxious to discuss these crippling business decisions when the then new Canon R5 had serious overheating issues on Philip Bloom‘s channel, and he reacted as though I was spamming his channel with conspiracy theories. When smartphone sales shrank the global camera market by 90%, all the companies realized that they cannot risk cannibalizing their own product sales with new models and firmware updates to add more features. They must cripple their products.
There’s limits to what you can add in firmware, the latest Sony cameras have the new ‘AI’ processor in them. It’s a killer processor that adds a ton of functionality. Sony are the opposite of Canon who deliberately cripple all their low end cameras and always trickle down tech and functionality from the most expensive bodies to the cheaper ones. Sony just stick whatever latest tech they have in their newest bodies. So you get weird situations where the best autofocus, breathing compensation etc is in their cheaper cameras, but not the more expensive ones.

i've been shooting with a blackmagic the other day. What a pain. Made me realise how good the GH6 and S5 are for the price. I'm pretty sure that my S5 mk2 with a diffusion filter and a blackmagic video assist shooting Braw would get the exact same results than the blackmagic camera.
I swapped to a blackmagic and was pleasantly surprised by how few 6-layer-deep submenus (0) I had to wade through to perform basic functions like choosing the frame rate. PAL mode/NTSC mode? Just enumerate them, you fools! (I do want buttons, though. The touch screen is invisible!)
If all these cameras were global shutter, I doubt you or anyone else would need stab - it all looks okay. I used a 95mm eqiv in a shaky place - totally the wrong lens for the job - and it didn't even matter! Sincerely, A Production Camera 4k owner trying to justify the pain of editing folders of DNGs because Blackmagic nearly forgot about me, and all the controls being on a touchscreen you can't see if there's enough light to actually use the camera. I hate that I love it. Definitely getting an Ursa mini 4k (double the price for 60fps and a viewfinder? Cool.) in a few years, though - could never go back to rolling shitter.
Is it possible that the mother ship camera company also owns the gimbal companies? That A7SIII getting a firmware update any time soon? LOL! Have a rockin' day!
Regarding Sony colors I am not so sure anymore. I hate their colors from the bottom of my heart but lately I tested A6700 against my Fuji. Compared the RAW files and it's the first time when I liked the output even better than my Fuji and it was under fluorescent lightning where Sony WB always sucked. My Fuji was as always too much magenta where Sony was basically spot on. Now I also did some short video clips but I totally don't know how to setup profiles in Sony and in video Fuji was better. My guess is that selecting right profile and adding touch magenta in camera setting and it will look identical to Fuji. Apart from that IBIS, autofocus was no contest so I am really thinking of ditching my Fuji and getting A6700 or A7CII. Their latest cameras like A7RV, A6700 and A7C II all seem to have much improved color science.
I know, but the operating system is completely different from windows. It's a whole other world not worth switching into just to edit files from Canon.
@@cameraconspiraciesA Mac mini is a grand, add a KVM for 20 bucks. You do not have to swich everything over, just keep it for an editing machine. An M1/M2 isn't really 'fancy', but it is the default for a lot of editors because of what it does well.
@@cameraconspiracies I switched lately (not entirely, my x86 laptop died after 10 years and I got MBA M1). I'd say MacOS is 10 times better than Windows and Linux combined together :D. I still got PC, cause RTX 4080 based PC is 1/4th of the price of Mac Studio. But to my surprise I can easily edit videos in Davinci 18 on base Mac Book Air M1 with 8GB of URAM. 4k footage half resolution of timeline. Sure my PC is better, but it's huge and not mobile. I would never switch to anything just to edit Canon files ... LOL.
@@POVwithRC Like I have space for 2 computer setups lol. My PC is definitely due for an upgrade, but I wouldn't choose mac just because Canon chooses to use hard to edit codecs in their mirrorless bodies. They use perfectly easy to edit codecs in their cinema cameras.
@@cameraconspiracies I was thinking about your use-case recently since I am normally a Windows PC user, but recently acquired the current top-of-the-line iPad M2 Pro with 2 TB of storage at a bargain price. I continue to be surprised at the usability and how refined it is and DaVinci seems really good so far. I’m curious to try one of your Canon files on it.
Sony f35 cinealta still looks amazing. But also has tint. The tint can be corrected in camera when white balancing. The tints are leftover from earlier sony digital camera days like f35 because real film stocks also had tint shifts. Re features, you know, pro cameras have it all, and everything below that is more like an expensive demo of pro film cameras.
This reinforces why I want the perfect camera. Perfectly. So I shoot a M3 and a blad. But thank jebus someone is keeping the industry honest. I love, ney pray for some exec to sub to this channel. But they wont.
@@MikAlexander I don't know what comparison videos you have seen. The basic 8 bit video and normal photography will be same. But when you go for wildlife photography, vlogging, and color science it is a stark difference. a6700 even beat R7 and XS 20 handsomely in many comparison videos I have seen.
My perfect hybrid camera has good IBIS and Open Gate 6k Recording, like Panasonic, good Auto focus and auto exposure like Sony, a tilty flippy screen, unlimited recording, internal raw video, full size hdmi, good rolling shutter, good dynamic range, full sensor readout 4K 120fps, and and an rf mount so I can use the kippertie revolva adapter to have basically internal nds with good autofocus lenses.
I shoot all of my video on a handheld hand-crank camera. High definition? Never heard of it! Interchangeable lenses? Pffft, sounds like a crutch! Sure you can hardly see what is being filmed, but that is real art. Is that a person walking; or a potato in a whirlpool? I don't know, that is for the viewer to decide for themselves! The cinema is MINE and you cant have it back!
pretty overkill considering he uses EOS R or some of the other cameras already for indoor talking head shots. And the C70 only is good for that kind of stuff in his case.
But are those "hard to edit files" on Canon cameras so annoying, for real? I would rather prefer the canon video files and somewhat usable stabilisation out of camera over the so "superior" sony catalyst stabilisation which definately takes a lot more computing power (and time) than editing/working on canon files. You should also mention this when complaining about just a little bit harder to edit canon video files. As a M1 MacBook user i cant really complain about those issues since i didnt even realize them personally but is this really a thing nowadays considering that much GPU power, hardware acceleration and optimised software for those GPUs? Also, i mainly use FCP on mac, but at least what i found out when trying windows and other editing software- The project files always, no matter how i change the settings grow to abnormal sizes (50GB to 1TB), so the videos are anyways encoded in a easy to edit format. (ProRes 4-2-2HQ i think on Mac and somewhat else on windows) Does video editing even work fluently without creating proper coded video files or "proxies" as they are called?

Funny you say the BMPCC is not for TH-camr, content creator, streamer etc - From what I've seen, they are very popular amongst all sort of content creator because the vast majority of them shoot in a _studio_ - It's far more rare that people take their camera into the wild and walk/talk/vlog with a big ass camera. Most people who do that, uses action cam or phone. On Twitch, there's a popular organization called OTK and they shoot pretty much everything on BMPCC.

So not that good for 95% of youtubers. Even some serious YTbers switched from BMPCC to FX3 or FX6 when they hit the market.
@@JoATTechyeah I don’t think they will include electronic ND unless they bump the price up another 1000$ atleast. Are there even any systems under 10,000$ currently with electronic ND? My only gripe with the 6KFF is that they stuck with their “ready to shoot” form factor. Most people that buy that camera rig it out anyways. I would rather they went with a box form modular concept. User changeable mounts to cover all the popular mounts. Full data output over HdMi or Sdi so you can do proper monitoring. And good weather sealing. It could be cheaper since it doesn’t have to come with a big touch screen. The problem with “ready to shoot” is that now they’re kind of competing with cameras like the S5iix, but actually considering form factor, size etc. the S5iix is probably better. And if the person already has an atomos or braw recorder, the Panasonic is probably more attractive as a “ready to shoot” “run and gun” camera. I don’t get it. Smh

Very well said. I agree. I'll never be able to upgrade after watching this! 😁🤣
i've been shooting with a blackmagic the other day.
Sincerely,
A Production Camera 4k owner trying to justify the pain of editing folders of DNGs because Blackmagic nearly forgot about me, and all the controls being on a touchscreen you can't see if there's enough light to actually use the camera.
So what will Sony follow the FX3 with, and when? Cause I'm looking to replace my A7SIII
GoPro Labs on my Hero 11 is nearest to perfection I can find. You should try it if you have not.
Boy, Davinci works on Mac ... I think even better than on PC.
😂 classic. Good rant
Couldn’t agree more.
You don't want balance. You want it all. G9II is as close to a perfect camera, as any camera will ever be.
A channel that starts saying "All I want is a perfect camera..." wants a perfect camera?
The aliens who control our flat earth hate us we humans, they want us to suffer seeking perfection
I just got the Canon R5C and I am trying to edit the files on a 6-year-old workstation.
You left out Leica and Hasselblad 😅 Next Episode!
Pass-ta dish
Canadian
What is your fav camera you can use in terms of both video and stills
Me editing my Canon R6 II 10 bit Clog files on my 7 year old iMac with no issues at all in Resolve....
I agree. These companies want to make money, not make the best equipment possible. That's the problem with Capitalism
I guess they’re doing it for business reasons…to keep you always buying their stuff…😂 and this is the trick…thanks for your great analysis 👏🏻
Yup, that pretty much covers it.
Guess it’s job security for camera conspiracies.
First! I don't even know why I do this or Why I enjoy it so much.
Waiting for the sigma fp to kick in for cinema...
Fuji looks good for handheld shots but don’t even try walking with it. I walk with a pimp walk… so I wouldn’t do it anyway unless it’s an action cam
This reinforces why I want the perfect camera. Perfectly. So I shoot a M3 and a blad. But thank jebus someone is keeping the industry honest. I love, ney pray for some exec to sub to this channel. But they wont.
The iPhone 15 pro in Log and Prores actually isn't that sharp
Yea but you get no slow mo in log prores.
a6700 is not that bad actually. I have seen so many wildlife photographer and filmmakers adapting it with 200-600. It is rather good.
I've seen comparison with a6400 recently, and they look pretty much the same, until heavy colour grading.
@@kapilesh14 Didn't know that. I don't do wildlife. Good to know. Thx
Can we get some bed reviews in a foreign country soon?
My perfect hybrid camera has good IBIS and Open Gate 6k Recording, like Panasonic, good Auto focus and auto exposure like Sony, a tilty flippy screen, unlimited recording, internal raw video, full size hdmi, good rolling shutter, good dynamic range, full sensor readout 4K 120fps, and and an rf mount so I can use the kippertie revolva adapter to have basically internal nds with good autofocus lenses.
So the most expensive cameras.
Sony colour has great shrek skin tone🤣
man you realy let it all out, I hope one of them listen.
Fuji ibis is Kaizen - not ready so let the customer fix it
Um...Resolve works just great on my M1 MacBook Air. I don't even use Final Cut.
The cinema is MINE and you cant have it back!
u need a c70 - scratch that itch.
pretty overkill considering he uses EOS R or some of the other cameras already for indoor talking head shots. And the C70 only is good for that kind of stuff in his case.
Your comments could apply to the automotive industry, too. lol
What are you looking for in a perfect camera???
So your gripe with Panasonic is lack of some AF modes in 4k120 and hd300?
Yeah, the G9II is endgame camera. Done.
also, it's SEE - RUE - EE
I get what you saying: the entire camera industry is doomed leading manufacturers are a bunch of clueless guys
Smile for me
But are those "hard to edit files" on Canon cameras so annoying, for real?
(ProRes 4-2-2HQ i think on Mac and somewhat else on windows)
Does video editing even work fluently without creating proper coded video files or "proxies" as they are called?
BMPCC 6k is not for YT ... definitely not for Vlogging or other shit like that. Yet quite good studio camera.
I wish they included the ND filters in their new full frame model though. But they gotta cut corners somewhere I guess :)
@@yawningmarmot They were not able to do it, cause flange distance on Lmount is 20mm, and on EF is 44mm.
BMD is using mechanical ND filters, and they got 2 trays (+2, +4). They are not able to fit it there.
I hope they will release 6k Pro model with build electonic VND. That would be huge.
But the price might be steep ...
@@JetBen555I've said it's quite good for studio, so YT studio work too ... generally for stationary shots. It's also great camera for "more serious" content like documentaries which are also popular on YT. But it's not a camera for average Joe, because it lacks AF and records RAW.
Smh
There has been no progress in cameras over the past 3 years
Again? SIRUI (Pronounced Si-ru-ee).
. . . helium
It's all designed to suck the paycheck of consumers. I'll stick with my a6700 for another 10+ years.
Golden Globe😂
top!!!!
The perfect camera was/is the Nikon F. it's been going down hill since than.:).
I switched to all Apple devices. No regrets. Windows sucks and Linux is a hassle.
Only Olympus and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K are useful cameras.
😂😂😂
a7sIII was too powerful. That's why there won't ever be a a7sIV
