(so sad baby so glad girl)
When you first came round I was sad
My head hung down I felt really bad
Now I'm glad, glad about the good times that we've had
Walked in the park
kissed in the dark
leaves burned just like just like a spark
Now I'm glad
glad about the good times that we've had
You went away I cried night and day
for what you done I had to pay
Left me so blue I don't know
where to go or what to do
please come back and let the sun shine through
Sun passed behind a cloud
I felt so proud
We walk down the street people smile that we meet
And I'm glad glad about the good times that we've had
You said I was the best man that you've ever had oh!
Now I'm glad oh so glad
Can't believe he's gone. There will never be anyone near to his greatness and as inspirational. RIP Beefheat. You will be greatly missed.
Just added this to my list of songs of the movie i invented in my head

That "Sad baby" part is always lovely to hear
What an artist!
RIP Captain
Don Van Vliet.
Thank you for your contributions
Absolutely one of my favourite songs ever.
Timeless and beautiful.
Dan Layton I cant believe this comment is 10 years old, I’m typing this as I listen to it for the first time, I’m sad I didn’t find it sooner.
@@ianlarson517 ..I feel the same..been listening to Beefheart since 1969 and only just heard this...the guy was a genius
@@ianlarson517heheh
beautiful singing by a great artist- why does anyone have problems with it? - He can do mainstream to the limit- he can do avant garde to the limit- what's that if not greatness?
500 ocken
Agreed... now back to trout mask 🐟 😷
@@StuartwasDrinkell I’ve still got my original troutmask album. All my others disappeared ( nicked I expect) .
@@shorelineboy those vinyl monkeys dammmmnn them!
I think this is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. Beefheart was revolutionary and god bless his soul
The most beautiful song, it makes me weep
That soulful, soulful voice! Love it
Beefheart even made something the ese's can cruise to, and a good slow jam, love song, or whatever level you want to enjoy it on. Memorable tune.
This song always makes my heart a flutter. lol. Especially in the " So sad baby, so sad girl" bit. Im Glad i found this song.
I just found this song today, I can’t believe your comment is 10 years old, I wish I had found this song sooner.
Beefheart is a true Genius! no matte rthe medium of his expression, it is true joy to hear him!
Who the hell thought putting this two things together would work?! He/She is a genius! This is just the best!
Thank you :)
Can't not love the images put to this. I want this screened at my funeral. I'll even push the date up if I can get a commitment.
Quite possibly the sweetest song ever!... It feeds my heart... WITH BEEF!
Best thing to feed your heart with
spikecustom awesome music! Tryed to feel it when i was a teenager and couldnt...i think ive finally grown up
Brilliant song and video 😢
The film is The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Das Kabinett des Doktor Caligari, 1920) a masterpiece of the silent cinema era directed by Robert Wiene.
i cant believe im only hearing about this song now, and what a gem it is. Definitely my fav now.
Great song. Didn't expect this type of music from Beefheart.
Thank you so much for this! I love the song, and the pairing with the clips from the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is inspired. One of my favorites!
1967: Walked in the park, kissed in the dark
Leaves burned just like, just like a spark
Now I’m glad, glad about the good times that we had
1969: PENA, HER LITTLE HEAD CLINKING
LIKE A BARELL OF BULBS FULL PAST NOISE
TREATS FILLED HER EYES
TURNING THEM YELLOW LIKE ENAMEL-COATED TACKS
Dont forget the random screaming in background
Самая атмосферная и ламповая песня , спасибо вам капитан за ваше творчество...
Captain was a master of singing and lyrics + he knew what sound he wanted. The rest of the band had to endure a lot of hours of hard, strict education learning every song front and back.
Beautiful captain R I P Love your music
knew nonthing about this song or beefheart. was just browsing to see the title song from blue collar. now im hooked. this song is amazing.
I heard this song from I am not okay with this, and I thought it was beautiful
Me to
this song never gets old
Why are all the commentaries so intense and cerebral.Glad is just sublime, wherever he was coming from.
The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari 1920.
Did you see it?
Gustajuy Yes I did. But it was a while ago. Its one of the top best horror movies of the silent era.
+Jeffrey Coogan I just saw this tonight.
Lucy Cat A Robert Wiene classic.
editing on the video on this is outstanding.
perfect compliment!
Captain Beefheart, like all the finer things in life, is an acquired taste... SO START ACQUIRING!
I was sad about the Captain but I'm Glad about the good times I've had with his music.
RIP Don van Vliet.. One of the greatest modern artists
Who's here from I'm not okay with this!?
Meeeee I'm hereresedffdhfdcxxcfdcg
Help me find another song I heard in that show plsss
@@iiirdsiii which one?
Lol Oh shit I about to type that
shane youtube me lol. I loved this song and had to do some intense searching to find it
this is genius, using Caligari. It's beautiful. Somehow it just feels perfectly right on many levels
This is excellent
This is unheard of music.
nostalgia enriches a good sense of humor. music like this is like rehab to the dead, who feel too much.
I've always loved this song, and I absolutely LOVE it paired with this movie.....but now I am forever doomed to be a post-woman for USPS in Portland.
With your Beefheart-Heart, the postal patrons of Portland are thrice blessed.
I'm a retired USPS letter carrier in Annapolis MD. 34 yrs & now unplugged from the 🐀 rat race! Congrats 👊
Goodbye Captain!
just started looking through the bands work. was very surprised to find something like this. i love artist that don't have a clear defined mold.
This just came back to mind from back in year dot. Glad I found it. I can remember feeling surprised when this track appeared in the middle of the world of weird on the album. Loved Beef then and still do. Thanks for the upload
Awesome coupling of the music-film ♡
This is "real soul". REAL SOUL. In every sense of the word.
I heard this on I am not okay with this and I love it
captain beefheart is the light
This is the first song that got me into captain beefheart
heard this for the first time in county lock up....i cant tell you how much more awesome i heard..really heard this track
love this guy
Kind of song you know since forever
This is very effective use of footage to one of the many songs of Don's that were of great worth to me ~ the fact that he was so free as to not merely "give the people what they want" - "the people" don't know what they want, they're told what to like and swim accordingly
It's such a joy that he made music for "the person". I always liked that this was like a great lost soul tune and perhaps fit nowhere else within his repertoire ~ So unique he did what he wanted no matter. Rest in peace, Capt.
RIP
A sweet soulful doo-wop tune over one of the most haunting movies ever made.
R.I.P. the best
Genius
One the best on safe as milk.
indeed as sugarmaven and Khan says: chokes me up over the loss of someone, deep. and that soulfulness to it. raw emotion!
@castles111
I believe the footage is from the silent movie the Cabinet of Dr Caligari.
Built To Spill brought me here!!!
awesome video!
immaculate! the heart of man! the heart and the voice of THE MAN.
Well, thanks for trying - I guess there are often parts of an artists career that we dislike and those that we love. I agree that that desire to love all is there and that is certainly the case with Captain Beefheart in my experience. The two styles do jar though.
Thanks for looking
Phil
This song gets the ladies going every time. The Captain is a genius.
RIP Captain Beefheart
RIP Maestro
Thank you for putting so much nice music on youtube.
I'M GLAD TOO! Great Concept!
que hermosa cancion!! y la peli del video, tambien!! :D
So sorry n'sad today......... RIP
Thank you and my pleasure.
I would have never thought to pair up Caligari and Beefheart...
then you're not doing enough drugs
@Music Guy Most boring drug ever, might as well take fucking nicotine
its kind of sad, i was reading of frank zappa and i ran into captain beefheart and fell in love, i just cant believe i have never heard of him before. having good music like this would have been appreciated earlier, although i am only 24 i do enjoy good music
I remeber that, 14 years ago, when something went wrong with a girl I used to firstly watch this video, then play Battlefield Bad Company 2. Fortunately I wasn't too bad at the game so I wasn't so sad...
when you sell out before you make your masterpiece, infact sell out so that you CAN make your masterpiece.
Really loved a lot of his stuff, but Ry Cooder pretty much had him pegged. Ry is the real deal.
love the video! really moving
There is no inherent contradiction between this and his more radical work. It's all part of a continuum. He took his influences and twisted them into something new. In the heat of the crucible steel is formed.
Wow. This film (Dr. Caligari) is from 1920. That's 90 years ago. 90!
And rest in peace Captain. I'll miss you.
Indecisive Koala.Not anymore it ain't.
Cool old school song.
@leenlouie it`s from a film called `the cabinet of dr.caligari`
not the adams family.....
Incredible come on think about it 💥
RIP Captain.
I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL CREATION
Rest In Peace , Dude .
Respect !
I really like this. I've been surfing and, at first I thought their music was pretty weird but, there really is magic to it. : )
RIP my friend.
lovely track
@spadge321 from the film Dr Caligari
I watched some of Nosferatu muted while listening to Abba Zabba. It synced up surprisingly well. True story.
i'M gLAD ABOUT THE gOOD TIMES THAT bEEF AND i HAD.
tHANK u dON.
@spadge321 "the cabinet of Dr. Caligari" Its a silent film, and that guy who looks like a mime... well does he remind you of anyone more modern? Its an actor named Conrad Vikes, the actor that Batman's "the Joker" was designed after. If you check it out you probably won't be dissapointed.
R.I.P. Don Van Vliet aka "Captain Beefheart"
it may be safe as milk, but it spills out dangerous as hell
ADIOS AMIGOS!!!
I'M SAD :(
Imglad. Oddy knocky
Crazy Good❤
Thanks for the tip, Phil, great song (kind of un-Beefheart-ish, show's the Man's versatility), great movie clip as well
I love this song! It's brilliant! I think the video is from Das Cabinet Des Dr. Caligari a film from 1920 :D
this is the sweetest fucking song...sigh.
rattydet - how are you doing with the great, "Mad" Captain after two weeks? You should see his BBC documentary, including comments by Frank Zappa, Matt Groening and Ry Cooder, available on TH-cam in six parts.
First heard him in 1966, saw him live in 1971 - incredible!
I've listened to a LOT of Beefheart, but not this. WOW. 47 years with the Captain and never heard him do doo-wop. And he EXCELS. Reminds of me of something the incredible Billy Stewart did.
@certificate18flix Well said. Very well said. I can appreciate other Captain Beefheart albums, and I certainly appreciate the brilliant madness that is evident in his later works, but Safe as Milk is really a masterpiece. Definitely my favorite album of his and one of my favorites of all time. Cheers!
RIP, CB...
