    This is a small UTG Messenger Bag that I have turned into the Ultimate Small Get Home Bag. In the bag I have tried to cover all of the bases when it comes to get you home, should the need arise. I have also tried to cover most of the 10 C's to Survivability. In this bag, there is everything from shelter to cutting tools and cordage to containers. There is about two days worth of food and snacks, water filtration and purification. There is also a first-aid kit, an area map of the state I live in, several compasses and knives, and many more items that you find in this video. I have tried to keep the contents down to just enough items to get you home and nothing else.
    One of the most important things I have also tried to keep in mind is the weight of the entire bag including a full container of water. Currently, the bag weighs 11.4 pounds.
    If you found this video useful, please give me a thumbs up, and also please tell your friends, and please subscribe.
    Thanks for watching!!

    I expected a redundant video with nothing interesting in such a small bag, but you actually managed to nail it.
    Well played sir

    Great bag and Stanley cup. Years ago, I lightened my BOB and turned it into an EDC bag. I ditched the redundancies and decided that mini emergencies happen way more often than zombie outbreaks. I now carry a lighter, knife, emergency cash, 2 small but good flashlights, mini charging options (wall/USB/lighter)for my cell, gum, telescopic pen, gum, etc. You reminded me that I need to refill my snacks pouch. Now I have extra room. Thanks for vid.

    A very nice vid. Since this is a get home bag, I would suggest a couple of pair of good quality socks if you are going to be doing a lot of walking. You need to take care of your dogs and you gotta change your socks 2 or 3 times a day when walking alot.

    Wonder if people could learn how to leave a comment to add to videos, in such a way, that they didn’t sound like total know-it-all jerks that I hope to never run into in this real world. I would like to say that if there was a emergency situation, this guy would defiantly be glad that he added several of the same things so that he could share. I would defiantly want all of my three children who might be traveling with me to have a whistle, mini knife and compass without packing several kits, that they would probably loose or forget at home anyway. Thanks for the video.

    Six cutting tools, six fire starters, six tinders, six compasses... I think in a kit that small you'd be better off replacing a lot of those redundant items with new items that give you additional capabilities.

    • @ncprepper100
      @ncprepper100  9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      You know what? I completely agree with you! I always try to follow the "two is one, and one is none" mantra, but substituting some items makes complete sense. I am ALWAYS looking for new or different gear and am always open to suggestions! I would love to hear any suggestions you have. That is what makes all of our kits better!! Thank you for your comment!

      I have the Maxpedition version of that pack (which I have a video on), which is very similar to yours. I put a pair of gloves in there, a plastic drop cloth for cover, and variations of pretty much all the other stuff you have in yours. I don't carry it, it's more of a mini bugout bag.

    Nice setup, I myself prefer the metal tent stakes because you can lay them across two logs with your fire underneath and create a grill top.

    • @ncprepper100
      @ncprepper100  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! Normally, I would agree with the metal tent pegs, but in this case... I felt that with this bag and the situations that I put it together for... I wanted to get home as quickly as possible and not spend an extra time grilling. In my full size Get Home - Bug Out Bag, I have metal stakes in it. That is going to be the next video that I put up, which will be very soon!

It makes it all the more special to hear that someone found this video helpful and will inspire more people to be become more prepared for themselves and their families. When you look, from the smallest of storms to the largest of disasters, most of the time you will have to rely on what you know and what you have with you. You can get by with a smaller bag with the skills that you know as knowledge weights nothing!! Thanks again!!

    My dad used to carry a can of peanuts in his glove box. We lived in Houston, and his commute was easily 90 minutes, so having a snack made sense. He was also a Scout leader, so being prepared for "just in case" was his standard operating procedure.

    Cool video redundancy is great , love the fact you include a map . Most of the prepping videos IV seen focus on compasses but I rarely see maps . I myself live in North Carolina and I would only change your shelter system a bit adding a waterproof tarp and a hammock , light weight and portable maybe an additional charger for your electronics . Or a small communication system . Like a pair of walkie talkies to help keep up with your children .
    Great video 👍 TY for sharing

    Great video with lots of ideas! A couple of quick suggestions...make a list of items in the bag...points out duplicate items which will give you added room... I might suggest some form of water filter/water containers/sill cock/etc. depending upon where you live (city/urban/etc.), plus a few drink items (coffee/tea/flavored water pkts...), snacks (i.e.; nuts, protein bars, rice/pasta mixes, etc.), plus a container for cooking and a small stove of some type (esbit, firebox, etc.) just in case... A good compass and map to get home in case earthquake, natural disaster prevents you from taking your normal route... Thanks sooo much for sharing and your video gave me several great ideas! Safe and prosperous life to you and yours!

    A great kit and good ideas in the comments too. l agree though there is too much redundancy in a few areas and think if you cut back a bit on that you could carry a few of the suggested items (whichever ones suit your situation) without increasing weight and still fit them in the same space. My suggestions to stream line it would be, first try to keep like items together rather than scattered through the kit (eg a fire section, a first aid section etc), second, label things like your tins so theres no guessing at contents involved if you need to find something quick or worse yet if you're injured and someone else has to find something (also a good reason for keeping things together) and third make sure you can use everything in it before you actually have to depend on it. A nice little kit that l am happy to get some new ideas from, well done. l enjoyed it.

    One thing that weighs virtually nothing - a nylon dry bag. I line the main pouch of each of my kits with a dry bag - sized to match the circumference and hanging out several inches to roll up. In this case, maybe a 5 liter bag. Keeps all your gear dry if you take a fall crossing a creek, and gives you a secondary carry pouch if you need to collect tinder or something. Never trust ANY bag to be waterproof, or even water resistant. The most foolish posts on Amazon are people complaining that they went backpacking and the gear in their lightweight pack got wet in the rain! All for the lack of a 4 oz, $9 dry bag.

      I apply 2 layers of waterproofing spray to every other / emergency kit bag I have. Point taken on the inner liner bag though. One of my bags has 2 drainage (?) holes on the bottom that I only just noticed the other day. If I set it down on wet ground or trip into a wet/waterlogged ditch, it's game over on that count.
      Luckily I have the smaller 2.5 mil trash compactor bags on hand that I will be lining it with.

    I was born in North Carolina and have been to North Augusta, South Carolina, West Virginia and lived in Virginia several times. I have experienced those climates and now I am in Florida which is not that much different particularly in the central most parts away from the shore and beaches. Only thing is lots of rain at times, humidity almost all year and bugs when it's really hot. It's almost like northern woods or depending on weather and location, it can turn more tropical like Puerto Rico or the Keys.
    The one thing I would say to anyone, is to grab more water and food on the go and the ability to shelter seems excessive, but if I couldn't get home, I'd want something to keep me dry and a mosquito net. Nobody has mentioned it yet, but a change of clothes would be nice. And I would try to have one chopping blade, short or long machete, or even an axe to do what your belt knife isn't heavy enough to do. Even if you're just laying low for a night it would be a more comfortable and potentially less stressful night.

    great video ... lots of useful stuff... I would add about 3 waist size of cordage with 3 key rings for the trash bags and heat sheet ready to go for quick deploying in rain/ colder areas. Wrap around ones waist to trap air inside your core and use the other 2 for arms(bags). For the heat sheet tie over the shoulders and around the waist.( cover the head if needed). You have instant space to put extra insulation you find or use the orange sham for that.

    You might want to think about compartmentalizing. Things like food items, placed in just a regular ziploc bag. Same with fire starting items (any similar items that you could group together). That cuts down on the clutter so you don't have to search through your bag to get a particular item.
    Also keep those altoids tins near the top, so if you find yourself in such a situation that you need to grab your GHB and hike back to the house, you toss those in a pocket. incase you get separated from your bag, you still have your survival and fire kit on your person. All that redundancy doesn't do any good if you lose it all at once cause you got separated from your bag.

      A Lot of great ideas! Thank you!! I should have mentioned in the video. I do usually keep a lot of the stuff in their own bags, but I am not the best at making videos yet and had done a lot of retakes, so I left a lot of the stuff out of the bags to make the video making less stressful. Thank you again for all of your suggestions, this is how we all learn and make our preps better.

    Due to the proximity of my job and my home, my 'get home' bag (IF for some unforeseen circumstances where all 3 roads to my home can't be traveled on with my truck and I have to walk) will consist of a bottle of water, gun, extra mag. I won't be stalking game, building a fire, sleeping. OK, maybe a snack food bar. My truck always has extra clothes in it for different weather patterns. I've walked from where I work to my home and it takes me 1 hour. IF we get a lot of snow, I'll add 45 minutes. A lot of snow has not stopped me from driving home in the past.

    Really nice set up you have there. I used to carry a small bottle of bleach too, but I traded that in for one of those chlorine pool tablets. The bottled stuff will not last for long, but that tablet will last forever. I scrape some of the tablet off and mix it with water in the small bottle and then add a few drops until I can smell a hint of bleach in the water I want to treat. It's not an exact science, but in an emergency, I know I have a real way to treat A LOT of water in a very small package. If you get the number off of the pool tablets and call them, and tell them you're going on a missions trip and you were needing a compact way to treat large amounts of water, they are VERY helpful in steering you in the right direction. Just make sure you can name a church or missions group if they start asking a couple questions. You don't want to look like a jerk and not know the answers. They're not prying, they're just making conversation while helping you out. Keep up the great work.

      I am glad that you liked the video and thanks for the useful information! I agree about the bottle of bleach. I have got some of the Katadyn tablets in another bag that I also carry with me. I also found some cool little filters that I am going to make a video of and put up pretty soon to hopefully take out the chlorine taste out of the water.

    The bag is very nice, water canteen very very nice, like the AA flashlight, nice Mora knife, some cordage, sawyer water filter, little bit of first aid, little bit of food for a day or two, keep the compass...I would ditch just about everything else and find you a good military poncho to pack in. Even though I think you are carting around way too much junk, I did enjoy your video. Just my two cents.

    Good video. I would add a pair of binoculars. It's always good to be able to look farther than you can normally, particularly if everyone isn't behaving themselves. This becomes particularly important if you have one or more children to keep safe, and you don't carry a gun.

    Nice kit, but I think I'd swap out some redundant items with a tube of Oragel, ( good for sanitizing and killing pain on cuts and scrapes) a small plastic bottle of castor oil, ( good for removing particles from eyes. Very soothing. We were issued small bottles of it when working on aircraft) and a snake bite kit. No telling where you will have to walk to get to safety.
