I never really thought about how sales taxes work in other countries. It seems in Japan, the tax is higher than the price of the food so the real price of the item is a little bit more than double what is showing on the screen. It's still a good deal, but I wonder if tourists are surprised by the tax.

I think you got it wrong, the tax isn't that much. The second price is including the tax so you know how much you'll have to pay in total. For the nori bento onigiri, the tax is only 23 yen

Because it is? Do you just think every name has to be in Japanese or something?🤦‍♀️
Even if it's in English locally the names aren't pronounced in English.
