I have lived in Encinitas (Leucadia) my whole life-- 63 years, and i can remember these from my childhood, and have driven by many times, but never been inside. Thanks for the tour! I'm so glad they will remain.

Me too! Moved to Encinitas in 1977 due to belonging to SRF as a teen. Lived about 3 blocks from these at Moonlight.
Noticed those when I first came to San Diego in 1976. Always wanted to get a peak inside. Thanks.

The boats are a historical landmark in Encinitas, California. I had a friend that lived in one of them many years ago. They are a conversation piece and just fun. They need to put some landscaping in though .... put the grass back in. The current tenant really has it nicely done. Loved the video! Encinitas CA should be featured more often in videos there is a lot more to see here.
I lived on a sailboat for 20 years. 2 years anchored around the Channel Islands. I would live to live in one of these. I’ve been landlocked for 11 years and need a dose of boat.

Just love the format of your videos. And of course weird and wacky stops, which this qualifies. We went to one in Milwaukee. I wonder what the neighbors think. So cool they are trying to preserve them. And so cool they let you in. Great video guys.

My G'pa, G'ma, dad, aunts and uncles lived one of these back in the late 50's in Encinitas.

Very cool to tour the boathouses with you! They bring to mind the sadly now-closed Ship Ashore Gift Shop/Museum in Oregon. Fair winds and following seas! (a little boat lingo for you 🙂)
I stumbled upon these boat apartments a couple of months ago, on my way back home to an Diego, from LA. I had totally forgotten about these boat houses and had never seen them in person. I stopped and took pictures. So cool! I have to bring my husband and son back to check them out. :-)
We bet you and your family would have a great time! - The Encinitas School House is also worth a stop (it's very close to the Boathouses) and we're sharing a few details on that location in a video coming this Saturday. Hope you guys get a chance to check them out soon. 😊

I used to live across the street at 743 3rd St. The original owner got the wood to build them from a dance hall that used to be at Moonlight Beach. Back in the 70s the rent was really pretty low. I spoke with Kellogg many times, and had friends who lived there. There's another, more conventional, unit in the back.
I'm so glad there are people like Nicole Frank out there who keep the billionaires at bay, so to speak, so that they don't tear down every last bit of what makes this town so great in favor of glass-and-steel resort properties.

Drew and Bethany, my wife lived in the S.S. Moonlight in 64 - 65 when she was little. Bethany, the porthole you pointed at on the Moonlight, my wife crawled out of it. I believe she said there was a closet there.

my wife lived in the north boat for a few years.
Go to the Little people "town" near Elfin Forest
They have som many garden clubs in that area, too bad they cannot work on that property. You could shape the plants to look like waves in the ocean.
