Just got a used one for much less than a 120. I fitted an alto neck and mp and use the alto neck strap. Added and mounted a rechargeable battery. Figured out the controller out setting in the app. Configured SWAM on iOS. It now replaced my EWI, AEROPHONEs and WX controllers. This is my daily driver.
Great. Thanks. Im looking at buying a YDS 150 or 120 (i play a pro yamaha alto but have been a tenor & soprano player). Just wondering if the YDS 120 can also work as a midi controller? The 120 is cheaper & apart from having no bluetooth connection it seems to have all the features of the 150. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Great Vid! Got my YDS recent and I'm loving it. Have you had any luck with getting rid of the latency on ableton when using it as a midi controller though? Its killing me haha
I have had similar difficulties. What software instruments are you attempting to control with the YDS? Also, can you tell me what kind of processing power you have on your computer? I have some ideas, and that information will help
great video. I recently got this instrument and am wondering if you have any idea how to connect it to a daw on mac id garageband. I've been unable to figure it out
Hey, when I use the YDS as an midi controller the breath controll doesn't work anymore. The sound is always on full volume. Does somebody know how to fix this? Im using FL studio if that matters.
I directly asked Yamaha. This is what they replied 1. Right-Click the FL-Studio Channel volume (screen shot 1) 2.Select the Link to Controller in the MENU (screen shot 2) 3.Set the Ctrl “11” at the remote control setting (screen shot 3) best regards @@ChanceRoth
I think it might depend on the DAW. When I tried to do it out of the box on my PC... the breath would not do anything but on off, but when I did it with the SWAM Sax tools on Garage band on iPad I think it was working. Still working on a home grown bite sensor for additional expression@@eliasbonfils3344
The static noise could be the result of the of the cable or the quarter inch adapter. I have been able to almost remove static completely with quality cables, and have found that the cheaper products have a lot of noise issues.
Question for you is this! Is there the capability to add in additional voicings if what I am looking for isn't already installed on the yds or would my best bet be to USB patch connect to a Yamaha synthesizer so I am able to find the voices I am looking for???
@@GetASax Seems sort of short sided from Yamaha not to make it compatible and just include the 5 pin midi option for those that have the ability. Very disappointed, perhaps in future YDS models. Thanks for the feedback!
While the YDS is connected to the laptop, open your midi-map in Ableton, top right corner. With the midi-map open click on the parameter that you want to activate, and after you select it just move the modulation wheel on the YDS. This should map the modulation wheel to the parameter.
Hello. Good presentation . But . Think you missed the point ... people know how to set up a DAW . People want to midi in to their legit 5 pin midi device not USB Okay my EWI 4000s can 5 pin midi connect to my Yamaha piano . No computer , no DAW no host adaptor . Midi is not really usb . I have midi guitars , midi pianos , midi wood winds. You are using a computer . What you need is a midi host adaptor . Not a laptop . With the host adaptor you can usb in and then it outputs to 5 pin DIN midi . Midi has been around since the 70s look up Atari ST computers . Some of the first DAWs were Atari st 1040s and amigas . Most of us were recording ,sampling and miding our controls . Back in the early 90s I even had a digital sax with midi out . Midi is also great for peopke with vision issues , my amblyopia messes me up something awful when I read music - I will be on measure 8 , then wind up on measure 16, so there are ways to transpose arrangements where someone who sight reads and plays music but has a visual issue can still play..l have a Roland GR 55 . It uses a pick up that allow me to use a midi sound bank with my regular electric guitar ( one of many ) I can interface to my desktop and run it through my midi studio and record my sheet music . Midi does a lot and it’s a big discussion but I think most people are looking to midi into their pianos and sound banks with a 5 pin din . Hope this is not TMI . I love my EWI 4000 but I have a Yds 150 on the way . As instruments go, the Ewi has more bells and whistles but the 150 is more of a saxophonists instrument .
I was wondering if something like this would work? www.cme-pro.com/product/widi-jack-25din5-cable/ He has all those keyboard behind him, I'm surprise he didn't address it?!?! Maybe use the Irig2 to the Ipad and then use the Ipad to the YDS 150 ??

You cannot control the velocity for volume it appears. Every note plays at full volume. This renders this thing useless as a controller……. What a shame….. 🤔
@@fgerv Perhaps they have found a way to get around the issue but the one that I had played all notes at full velocity. Even Matt Traum of Patchman Music noticed it when he reviewed this instrument…..

I'm not sure about the 120, sorry!
There is a video comparing the two. Both can be used as a midi controller for sounds that are set up for wind controllers
Thanks for the very useful video.
Thanks for the video! Is it possible to control the different velocity levels with its breath sensor?
Vibrato velocity has its own separate control. That’s one of the ways it feels different from a real saxophone to play.
@@GetASax I’m not even able to control the volume with breath control. Do you maybe have an idea what the problem is? BTW I’m using FL-Studio.
thanks for your video. I have the same question about breath control. Can you show me the way? My dwa is cubase.
Great vidéo! is it possible to enter notes in a score editor like Sibelius?
I'm not sure, it might be as it is a midi controller like any other
If it accepts midi input but expect a lot of editing.

great video. I recently got this instrument and am wondering if you have any idea how to connect it to a daw on mac id garageband. I've been unable to figure it out
Are you using a mic, do you have an interface?
Does this work with the YDS 120, also? I would assume it does.
I haven't used one, but I would imagine it would be the same.
Yep. I sold mine.
Hello,it it possible to mediate directly from a Pax 4 flap with cable?
Plase make a video
Can you tell me more about what you are trying to do? I'm not sure I totally understand
Is it also possible to connect the Yamaha YDS 150 as a midi controller to the Studio One from Presonus.
I haven't used Studio One, but it should work fine. If you plug it into your computer it should be listed as a available midi device on any DAW.
Yes. Works fine. Get some good Sax VSTs.
Hello! Can chords be made as a midi controller? for example piano chords?
Unfortunately no
I f you uses Camelot Pro it has a not to a custom chord you configured. That’s what I use.
hello can you tell me if the YDS 150 have the strings sound like violon and cello?

How do you deal with the static noise(white-noise) when you hook it up to an amp?

You can't load new voicings on the instrument, but you can create custom voices using the mobile app
Will it work with my MOTIF - RACK XS that I use with my Yamaha WX-5?
Likely not as it does not have 5 pin midi, which I'm assuming is what you are using with your rack?
