Andy sang part time with the Bee Gees, He sang You Should Be Dancing with the Bee Gees, Andy was announced as joining the Bee Gees full time but passed away before that could happen. The Plan had been for Andy to get experience as a Solo Singer with the Bee Gees writing his songs and performing Backing Vocals.
I remember Andy for sure he was the hottest thing going. Barry wrote this song. He did want to be a Bee Gee and both Barry and Robin said that was in the works in the near future right before he died. When he died the hospital said he had no drugs or alcohol in his system. He was staying at Robin's house at the time of his death. He really did want to be with his brothers. Thank you for playing the Bee Gee's you do such a great job.
I’m a hard core I love all the Gibb brothers! He was going to be a part of the BeeGees but died before it actually happened. That came from Barry’s lips. Could you please imagine the harmonies with FOUR GIBB BROTHERS? Oh my!
The BeeGees gave Andy a great start .Writing and producing his songs. He had a very good career going for him.His first 3 records went top 10.Such a tragic ending to a life with so much promise.Barry said he wasn't asked to join the group because he was so mich younger, but later they did want him to join.Andy at times sang some of their songs ,and even joined them on a few ocasions on stage. To me Andy's voice sounded like a mixture of Barry and Robin.R.I.P.Andy We love you.
The Bee Gees were already established. Andy was considerably younger than the other 3 so would've been a child when the Bee Gees started out. It made more sense to go solo.
Andy was just as special as his brothers! Barry wrote most of his songs and they sang back up. He was a huge success on his own and was supposed to join his brothers as he got a little older but unfortunately he passed before it happened. Such a sad loss. He did preform with them a couple times and they surprised him on his tour as well. Just an amazingly talented family! Just an FYI; The Bee Gees were No 1 on the billboard charts and the only one to knock them off was none other than Andy!
He really did want to be a Bee Gee but he was quite a lot younger than they were.. His brothers were supportive of his solo career and he was more successful than the BeeGees were for a time. ... If you check out the live "You should be dancing" you see how thrilled he is to be on stage with them.
@@HAP3SPEAKZ please react to Andy singing Words at President Reagan's Inaugural Dinner. Andy's girlfriend Victoria Principle introduces him. He's wearing a tuxedo and with the beard he looks like Barry and sounds like him. They were 11 1/2 years apart but had identical birthmarks. Early in 88 they announced Andy would be joining the Bee Gees but Andy died in March of 88 five days after his 30th birthday.
Barry took him into the studio and wrote or co-wrote Andy's songs. Big brother jumped started his career. When Andy died, the Bee Gees were working on an album for the 4 of them and yes according to Barry, he was going to be joining the Bee Gees.
Andy must have only been about 18 yrs old when his first album was recorded which had this track on it. Also had LOVE IS THICKER THAN WATER. Another good song.
Much love for Andy, as I have for all of the Gibb brothers. Almost all of Andy's songs were co-written by Barry, or by all three brothers, although Andy did write a handful of his own tunes- "Flowing Rivers" "Words and Music" "Me (without You" "Too Many Looks in Your Eyes" "Starlight" . And the Bee Gees production team of Alby Galuten and Karl Richardson produced Andy's music. Bee Gees and/or Barry did background vocals. Andy was very talented like his brothers, and learned a lot from working with them, as well as watching their career as he grew up. This song is credited to Barry as writer. Andy was 12 years younger than Barry , so for most of the Bee Gees career, he was still a child. 1978 was the year of the Gibbs, when they dominated the charts with thier own songs and with Andys as well as other artist. After establishing himself as a solo artist, it was announced the year before he died that he would join his brothers. But that was not to be as he passed away.
Also after the "Disco Sucks" backlash, the Bee Gees took a break from performing and were behind the scenes doing writing and producing for other artists for much of the 80's (They relased the Living Eyes album in 1981, but could not generate any US airplay, US radio would not pay any attention to the Bee Gees) . At this time, Andy was hosting the TV show Solid Gold, but also fell into bad habits and a bad crowd, and became addicted to cocaine. In the late 80's he got clean and sober, and this was the same time the Bee Gees were making another comeback, and as I mentioned in my other comment, Andy was to join them.
Just one more comment, LOL, there is a TH-cam clip of Any singing on stage with his brothers performing "You Should Be Dancing." I don't think I can post a link here but I can send it to you if you like.
The brothers are singing back up. They wrote his 1st three hits too. Barry produced his albums. Yes he wanted to be a bee Gee since he was a little kid. Barry was his idle. he was suppose to join them after he finished his contractually last album in late 88. He died 5 days after his 30th birthday in March of 88, so it never happened. He was 10 years younger than his brothers and he therefore were not a part of the Bee Gees when they started out in the Sixties. (They got their name the same year he was born in 1958). He sytarted out having a very succesful start of his solo career with his first 3 singels going number 1. Besides this one it is (Love Is) Thicker Than Water and Shadow Dancing. This made him stay as solo artist and also his beginning drug problems made him not join The Bee Gees. In 1988 there were at last talks of him joining his brothers but sadly he died 5 days after his 30th birthday in March that year. The reason it sounds much like The Bee Gees is that Andy's material for most parts had the brothers involved in some way, both as songwriters, backing vocals and producers.
Andy was much younger than the other three Gibb brothers. Not sure if that's why he had his own career and didn't join the Bee Gees but it would make sense
I think you may be correct. Andy has appeared with his brothers on stage from time to time. "You should be dancing " is a live performance with all 4. His brothers helped him a lot in his solo career. Songwriting, back up vocals. Barry and Andy are very similar in singing technique. Loved the reaction.

Barry is helping him on the song, background vocals are Barry. He has learned a lot from his older brothers. I was so heart broken when he passed away. He was going to be part of the BeeGee but he passed away
Thanks a lot! It's always a great pleasure to discover your reactions. The song reached N°1 in the USA. :-). It was written and composed by Barry Gibb, we can clearly hear him doing the back vocals.. Andy's following record: "Love is thicker than water" co written with Barry ranked also N°1. His third number one was "Shadow dancing". Several following tracks even charted but not so high : "Everlasting love (5), Our love don't throw it away ( 9), Desire (4), "I can't help it" a duet with Olivia Newton John, (12)"Time is time" (15), "Me without you ( 40), All I have to do is dream" duet with Victoria Principal (51). I've heard that the intent was for him to come into the group with his brothers, and supposedly, was on the verge of doing that just before he passed. The only reason, I believe, that he didn't come in with them earlier, was because of his drug problem. He had finally, though, gotten clean, but then he passed . So sad; he was so talented.
It is rumoured that he was going to join the Bee Gees at the time he died. At least Barry, which he was really close to (Barry often says that he was his twin, they liked the same stuff, looked similar...), said that he wanted Andy to join the Bee Gees. Andy wasn't a Bee Gee because he had a big age gap. When he was born they were already into music and when they formed the Bee Gees Andy was far too young. Hap3speakz, you should watch the latest official documentary called How Can You Mend A Broken Heart from 2020, it is great.
They were going to have him join as the 4th Bee Gee close to the end. Also it was to keep him on the straight and narrow. Sadly he had an underlying heart condition made worse by years of cocaine. They encouraged him to make his own way first but they all wrote songs for him too. He was especially close to Barry.
I was going to comment the same if I didn’t see it-it wasn’t just due drug abuse per se that he died from, but as you stated, was an underlying heart condition that exacerbated by his years of use. So sad indeed. I find it actually upsets me a bit that articles only ever state depression and drug use in regards to Andy. I don’t believed it defined him. Yes, he fell into the same pressures that quite frankly a lot of people do- Celebrity or not. I mean look at the time this was happening for him at first, mid 70s. And he was young like 19/20/21 something like that- prime age. It’s just too bad that it couldn’t have been quelled early are you now? Huge fan of the Bee Gees since I was young, and Andy is well. Happy to see when others enjoy it and see their talent as well. As well as I am happy that the older and newer stuff are being performed and not just the Saturday night fever album which seems to be the only thing that people are requesting and one reactors to listen to, when that really wasn’t necessarily “them”. What a weird time that was for them 😂. And I might be stepping out on a limb but I would say that that album was probably one of 2- things ( the other of course Travolta’s dance moves and good looks)that made that Movie a household name haha
Hi Hap! There is a TH-cam video of Andy joining his brothers on stage for “ You Should Be Dancing”...you want to make sure you have the live version. I would post a link, however, TH-cam is not keen on including links in posts. Love your reactions - Thank You!
That was such a great song! Andy was not part of the bee gees at the beginning because he was too young. His brothers were already performing and writing songs.then when a little older he was to join his brothers, but unfortunately the extremely talented Andy did not last long and unfortunately past away. Loved your happy and lighthearted reaction!!🥰🎵🎶
@@HAP3SPEAKZ I am late to the party on video reactions. I’ve worked thru several reactors’ Bee Gees playlists, and you, my friend, are the absolute best. You also use simpler tech terms, so it’s awesome I can really understand what point you’re making. In my case, this 65 year-old mom of 4 and Noni of 4 enjoys not asking my 7 year-old granddaughter to explain the tech terms 🙄 I think you’re also hilarious, and finally discovered that you remind me of Trevor Noah (and that is high praise coming from me). I’d like you to react to “The Making of Tragedy” and the song “Tragedy”. Thanks for sharing your talent…everyone should have a laugh at least once per day! Oh, and I adore Andy Gibb’s music so much. I cried for days when he passed away 😥
What a lovely song, made for grooving (it was hard not to move while sitting 🙂) His voice is very similar to Barry's voice but as a younger, thinner, more gentle, not so strong version...
Great reaction! I was just 7 years old when this song came out but I totally remember convincing my parents to let me stay up late to watch him perform it live on ‘The Midnight Special’ (he sounded really great live, you should check it out). I had his centerfold from Teen Beat magazine on my wall for years and was so sad when died. Gone way too soon. FYI: Roy Orbison was a really big influence on Barry Gibb, so the song Crying could have definitely been an inspiration for the rhythm and melody of this song.
Sounds "bee gee-esq" because Barry Gibb wrote it. Albhy Galuten , Karl Richerdson and Barry Gibb produced it (they produced many bee gees songs and other artists including the guilty album for Barbra Streisand) and Barry is in the backing vocals, so yes is has the Bee Gees vibe to it and it was a #1 in the Billboard Hot 100.
Hap, just before I watched your video I had watched a TH-cam video “The Last BeeGee” an interview with Barry (4/5/21) and learned much of what Andy did. Amazing his first three songs went straight to number ones! Too bad he got into the wrong crowd with the drugs! He would have made a beautiful addition to the BeeGees! Love your reaction my friend! Love ❤️ from across the pond.
Both Andy and the brothers were set to each release studio albums, and then Andy would join them (it was 1988). Sadly, these plans never came into fruition because Andy passed away that year. It was heartbreaking 💔 I remember it like it happened yesterday.
There was a huge age gap between Andy and his older brothers. When Andy became serious about singing, Barry told him to go to Australia and start playing live at festivals etc. Then later Barry became his manager. The year 1988, when Andy died at the age of 30, the family was going to announce him joining his older brothers as a 4th Bee Gee. Sadly that didn’t happen.
Andy Gibb was much younger than his brothers, he was 12 years younger than Barry and 9 years younger than the twins Morris and Robin. He was going to join the Bee Gees, but he died too young he was 30 when he died . There is one song that he did join his brothers on stage and that was the You Should Be Dancing live.
Andy wanted to pursue a solo career to gain experience in a group. in Australia first like his brothers, he started at 15 - he had family in Oz - his young voice would not have fit in with the BG's at that time. Later when he was 29 and had gained experience and seemed to have his drug problems behind him his brothers came to an agreement that he should make one more LP and they would make one more Album then the Bee Gee's would become a quartet. Andy died 5 days after his 30th birthday so it never happened.
Andy was just a little tot when the other Brothers Gibb left Australia and formed the Bee Gees. Andy grew up and created his own solo career. Actually, they were just preparing for Andy to join them when he tragically passed. so very sad
I had posters of Andy Gibb on my walls when I was younger I just thought he was the cutest thing!! It’s so sad though that he wasn’t even 30 yet when he died! He was a lot younger than his brothers who were already out performing when he was just real little but obviously the Gibbs were all born with something special! There is one video called “You should be dancing” where Andy joins them and I believe they had planned on him eventually joining them but sadly Andy died before he got a chance to join his brothers!! RIP Andy, Robin and Maurice
I think he did want to be part of the Bee Gees but the age difference was too great when he was younger. He was about to join them when he passed away.
There was a plan for him to join the Bee Gees in 1988 and be with them on the album One. Sadly he passed away in March 1988 so it didn’t get to happen. His brothers are singing back up for him.
My eyes would lock into his eyes on the album cover. If we were playing a game, I would lose. It got creepy for me. I am glad our boy liked it. Yes, More bass would have made a smoother song. And don't forget, a sax would be in there, too. Liked the reaction, my boy. 👏👏
Good point with the Sax!!! Yes it waa slightly creepy but hey! The ladies love the poster boy look. What a talent and an incredible back story to match!
the harmonizing and falsetto is very familiar for a reason, Barry is singing backup vocals on this song. Also, It was announced that Andy would be joining his brothers as an official BeeGee but sadly he passed away shortly after and nothing had come from it.
Andy looked and sounded so much like Barry. Andy always wanted a solo career. He joined them on stage once or twice i think, but solo was his thing. However---all the brothers loved singing together !!
I think there was the feeling that he was more suited to be a solo artist. There were talks to bring him into the group just before he died. He was also a TV presenter and stage performer. The director of Pirates of Penzance said he was the best actor in the role. He was at his peak and so many accomplishments were lost.
Hi, there is a video of a Barry Gibb on Channel 7 Australia plus am sure that 60 Minutes Australia have covered them as well. Cheers from Redcliffe (where they lived in Queensland).
Yes, and he was too young to be a BeeGee, however they looked after him. Barry wrote his songs and Produced them. His first 3 song’s went straight to number 1. All the boys have said for Andy it was too much success to quickly. Mo told Andy when he riding the high’s of Success as he stood in in Andy’s new house, with the Porch sitting in the Driveway. You know this won’t last it will go away and Andy being so young and Cocky as Mo put it, said what, why and Mo told him you keep going the way you’re going and this will all be gone but Andy thinking he was a big star and he was by then thought everything would stay as it was. Unfortunately it wasn’t and Mo or Barry said when young people start buying Baby exotic animals and Andy got a Baby Lion, you know they are in to far and unfortunately Andy was in to far. Yes he did join his brother’s on stage, more than once and yes he wanted more than anything to be a Bee Gee but his older brother’s could see his was way too immature even at 28-30 years old. They would have loved Andy too be a Bee Gee, they had learned there lesson’s by then and as much as they loved him he was in a very still their baby brother a lovely kid not yet ready to be a Bee Gee.🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️
He did appear in saturday night fever, when they do the song you should be dancing.Artish may be a lot of pain,he was dead when he was his 30s.He took too much drug.
There was a ten + years age difference between Maurice and Robin and then Andy. There was just too large of an age difference. The older three brothers worked very hard their whole life to get what they had created. All 4 brothers did work with each other. Barry wrote songs for Andy. They sang back up for Andy. They produced his records. Just too much of an age difference.
He was too young to be part of the Gibb brothers....sorry to say that the level might be not so......Bee Gees should be just Barry with the twins..couldn't be more or less.....only 3 siblings for their musical journey had started during their early childhood....🎉❤❤
This song was written by Barry, produced by Barry, and Barry sang back-up. Im going to get shit for this but the truth is, Andy was Barry-Lite, meaning, he was not as talented as his brothers. Nothing wrong with that except I imagine he had a lot of pressure trying to live up to the Bee Gees. His live recordings "Suck" because it really was just Andy on his own.
I think Hap's issue was with the audio quality , not with Andy. Andy didn't suck live. There is a great live performance of this song on the Midnight Special. There is a beautiful live performance of Andy singing "Words" on TH-cam. There is also a great video of Andy singing "Love is Thicker than Water" live.
Andy had some absolutely wonderful live duets. He was especially good at that. Here's just one of them, in this case with Olivia Newton-John. They are signing a song written by the Bee Gees: th-cam.com/video/QXzk8uamdPw/w-d-xo.html

You may already have heard of this fun fact….the boys wrote “Shadow Dancing”, “Too Much Heaven”, and “Tragedy” in ONE day. Let that soak in 😉

💯YES!
I read he did want to be part of the BeeGees, but was so much younger than the brothers. Barry was 12 and the twins were 9, when Andy was born.
"They" made the song and "they" sang backup. Andy was a lot younger but his brothers included him and helped with his career.

Andy was raised closely with his brothers. Their mom traveled extensively with The Bee Gees and Andy went too.
She said Andy could sing along during his brothers’ rehearsals, knew every song, and in perfect pitch at age 3.

Crying Over You was sang by Roy Orbison- you know so many songs Hap- thank you for another Andy Gibb song-
Ohhh your listening very well! Thanks for clearing that up!
@@HAP3SPEAKZ 😉
Hi Hap! There is a TH-cam video of Andy joining his brothers on stage for “ You Should Be Dancing”...you want to make sure you have the live version. I would post a link, however, TH-cam is not keen on including links in posts.
Love your reactions - Thank You!
Really enjoyed the reaction! ❤️❤️
Thanks a million Sumer!! Glad u did.
It is quite a song! Thanks Deni. He wanted to be their everything perhaps.
Showing my age...but I still have this on a 45 😂. I had a huge crush on him.
Bee Gees formed the group the yrs Andy was born, that why he wasn't part of the Bee Gees 💖
What a lovely song, made for grooving (it was hard not to move while sitting 🙂) His voice is very similar to Barry's voice but as a younger, thinner, more gentle, not so strong version...
Yes. Quite hard to sit still with this number. 🙂
Great reaction! The Gibb brothers are awesome. Memories of middle school in the 70’s. Commercially, The Bee Gees had to stay a trio, I think
Fair point, could be due to contractual reasons. Hmm
@@HAP3SPEAKZ Great channel! It would’ve also changed the BG’s trademark sound/ image which was selling millions of records at the time? I don’t know
Andy was multiple exclamation points to the Brothers Gibb !!!
They do a few songs together but Andy did mostly solo...
his brothers sing background to Andys songs
Great reaction! I was just 7 years old when this song came out but I totally remember convincing my parents to let me stay up late to watch him perform it live on ‘The Midnight Special’ (he sounded really great live, you should check it out). I had his centerfold from Teen Beat magazine on my wall for years and was so sad when died. Gone way too soon.
FYI: Roy Orbison was a really big influence on Barry Gibb, so the song Crying could have definitely been an inspiration for the rhythm and melody of this song.
Geez!!! Always a connection ... now we have Roy being an influence. Thanks for that Amy! 🙂👍🏽
@@HAP3SPEAKZ You are welcome!
Ohhh~~ thanks for sharing that information.
Robin Gibb also did a solo hit "Juliet" from 1983. Amazing.
Dang. Taking me way back!
Super song.. Kazakhstan
Liked subscribed. 😀
Cheers for that!! I got a playlist too including both Andy and the Bee Gees.
Great his voice😍😍❤❤🌹
Thanks for throwing me all the way back to my Disco days
Oh this song got played all the time. Another with a somewhat similar vibe was by Frankie Valli "Swearin to God" 1975. That was my absolute favorite.
Sadly that didn’t happen.
bee gees living together
I missed a lot. I’ve watching every BeeGees and Andy too😘
Andy Gibb was much younger than his brothers, he was 12 years younger than Barry and 9 years younger than the twins Morris and Robin. He was going to join the Bee Gees, but he died too young he was 30 when he died . There is one song that he did join his brothers on stage and that was the You Should Be Dancing live.
Plus. Another attractive Gibb brother!
His brothers sang in background
The new gee’s did the back up singing on this song
Ok. Just read your next comment 😅
Andy is the younger brother of the Bee Gees
Yes that's right. Learning that now reading the comments.
I think you are referring to "Crying" by Roy Orbison. Classic song!
Yee!!! Appreciate that Jill! 👍🏽
Very good!! REACT LIVE OR DIE BEE GEES..
the harmonizing and falsetto is very familiar for a reason, Barry is singing backup vocals on this song.
How's strange of my feelings that I always feel that Andy was so so wanted to be Barry's everything.....may be I am crazy......😅😅
He sang on a few songs with his brothers and at the end of his life had planned to join his brothers group.
👌👏👏
I think you might have been referring to CRYING sung by Roy Orbison??
So sad to lose Andy so young.. it was a shock--the youngest and the first to go.
He. Was going to be the 4th bee gee. Before he passed
He used to try to sing with them when he was two but they always kicked him out of the room! I think that influenced him in adulthood
Hi, there is a video of a Barry Gibb on Channel 7 Australia plus am sure that 60 Minutes Australia have covered them as well. Cheers from Redcliffe (where they lived in Queensland).
😀👍❤️✌️🌼
He is the youngest brother of Barry Gibb the Bee gees.
React to Montana of 300 - track star remix 🔥🔥
He did appear in saturday night fever, when they do the song you should be dancing.Artish may be a lot of pain,he was dead when he was his 30s.He took too much drug.
He did want to be a part of them but he was way too young when they first started. Barry was singing on the track with him.
He was going to join but he passed away. So sad.
I meat the bee gee’s
😁
It’s a Barry Gibb song
Sounds a lot like Barry. A lot of people say that. Can you hear it?
Absolutely! Look up Andy’s cover of “Words”….he looks and sounds so much like Barry. I cry thru the whole thing every time I watch it….
Just too much of an age difference.
th-cam.com/video/1zjIFyk-ERM/w-d-xo.html
This was one of his first performances. I love it.
He died of a drug overdose way before his brother's died.
That’s BS. Andy was extremely talented, wrote nice songs and his voice was extremely good and shouldn’t be compared to Barry
@@wellseeaboutthat913 yes, this one with ONJ is particularly pretty, and he sounds fabulous.
