I discovered The swing trick in FL because of this video you made and everything just changed for me. I can now make a Kaytranada beat exactly like him because of you. God bless you brother, thank you for this video.
What turned Kay away from the Akai, was he bought an aftermarket MPC 500. He's come around on hardware samplers, as he is a big Maschine user now. Great tutorial!
@@AveMcree Yeah that swing feature is gold to cats who can't swing naturally and do things mathematically. But for most seasoned cats we just program certain sounds unquantized to get that feel, just natural programming skill. People used to ask me all the time about swing percentages. I've been producing since 94 and never once used that feature.
Tell me you saw the Kaytranada x Amine video where he’s playing on the MPC live 2 (oops that was actually a Maschine) Btw loved the beat on the MPC. Is there a way to sidechain the synth to the kick to create that Kaytranada pump?
I think the issue (if you can really call it that) with Knxwledge is that he's is almost TOO Dilla inspired. You can't detach his sound from Dilla's because one is a literally derivative of the other. Kaytra is a completely different type of producer in that he's much more electronic-based, and not really in the same lane as Dilla/Knxwledge
Thanks for the video dude. To be honest, I don’t get the hype about Kaytranada at all. From interviews, I’m not sure even he gets the hype. His beats are nothing new. People like Kenny Dope, Todd Terry, Karizma, Kerri Chandler etc were doing it in the 90s (switching out 909s for real sounds sampled from breaks and working the swing). Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a great producer and I like a lot of his work, but I don’t get the hype, if you know what I mean. Thanks again for the video.
@@AveMcree He definitely comes from a slightly different angle. Kind of like a Dilla wearing the House music hat. Maybe it is where Dilla would have ended up if he was still with us?
Who do you want me to cover next??
Big krit or kanye
@@ricoondatrack Kanye for sure
Havoc From Mobb Deep
Paul Johnson, Louie Vega and others like that
Daft Punk (I know its been over done) but their earlier classic stuff
You absolutely nailed it, those bass lines are so bouncy! Great deconstruction series!
Thank you so much MP🙏🏾

Kaytranada doesn't really move the needle for me honestly...knxwledge on the other hand absolutely. That man is the closet person to jdilla out there
I agree
Agreed. My favorite producer

Kay should just wrap it up then and call it a career. Since he doesn't " move the needle " for you 😂🤡 who are you again?
ummm madlib is still alive lol

Ty for supporting. I honestly enjoy his take on the genre and what he’s done so far.
