One irony is that Baker Mayfield came to OU about the same time that Josh Heupel got fired. But nobody knew it. Heupel would have done pretty well with Mayfield at QB.

If Heupel is who Oklahoma knew him to be then these Vols do not know Heupel at all. Josh is not a petty person, he’s a man of God and an overall great man. He’s a high road kind of guy. That is what Oklahoma as an organization is about. Also, the loudmouth Sooners posting nonsense online are not emblematic of the majority.

Media and fans are blowing this way out of proportion. I’m sure Josh’s feeling were a hurt at the time. But he’s a good man, a good coach, and he’s coaching a big time SEC football program that is ranked 6th in the country. My bet is he’s trying focus on securing a championship and playoff berth. I’m sure he’s happy with his path in life. He didn’t take the straight road to where he is. He did it with heart and hard work. My bet is he wouldn’t trade how he got there for anything.

I can assure you that if I have to trust someone’s moral compass, Bob Stoops is is pointing the right direction. He did what needed to be done at the time. I was a walk on player under Switzer at OU. I was told that I needed to move on because I wasn’t gonna get time at my natural position. Killed me at the time! I transferred to a smaller college and eventually set a couple of records and go5 a shot with the 49ers. Made thru 1st cuts and that was it. Switzer did me a favor by dong the what needed to be done. Josh is where is in large part due to a bob’s decision

The Tennessee coaches and players are just coming out to OKC to play the next scheduled opponent on our 2024 list. Nothing more. Nothing less. Nobody is coming out with an ego problem----just going to play the game as best as the VOLS can-----and see what happens. May the best team win!!! God bless you and your two podcast buddies.

It was very tragic to see both the firing of Heupel (and Norvell), and I agree that Defensive Co-ordinator Mike Stoops was the bigger failure. And I say that as a big Mike Stoops fan, knowing how phenomenal the defense was shortly after he started. Mike was very personable and talked intelligently when he discussed defensive strategy, and yet the OU defense became less and less effective as time went on. It was heart-breaking to see him never recover, and then be fired once the head coach (Lincoln Riley) was no longer related to Mike, but I also felt sorry for Heupel and Norvell for being fired when they weren't the biggest problem. It's great to see the proven football genius Brent Venables at the helm now, and it looks right now like whoever is his defensive co-ordinator is safer in his job than Offensive Co-ordinator Seth Littrell. Disappointing on offense to a degree, but defense and special teams are looking pretty good! As a Sooner fan, of course I hope Brent and the Boys will come through, but as a Josh Heupel fan as well, I won't be heart-broken if Tennessee wins, and I'm sure TN will be favored to win. Will be a BRUTAL contest for OU to play so many top-10 teams in their schedule. Hope Coach Venebales will earn the name "Big Game Brent" after all the dust clears!!! Boomer Sooner!!!

I went to all the games vs K State when Josh was QB at OU. KSTATE only lost twice that year, both games were losses to OU by less than a touchdown. I just remember how tough Josh was. He would stand in the pocket and deliver passes on 3rd down and get slammed by KSU defense and he’d get back up and do it again.

I agree to most points by what was said but, not all because everything won't ever be talked about? Why did Bob Stoops really fire Josh again, I'm not going to talk about it because it's not worth repeating. You know how the old saying goes.......If Stoops would have never fired Heupel: He would not be here at Tennessee, he would have never went to Central Florida, ect., ect., So, for Coach Heupel sake it worked out better than planned for him because it gave him more experience as a head football coach. That experience gave him an edge over many coaches because he found ways to evolve and, not stay with one particular thing: I said it over and over again, today's football in college athletics has changed, it's like a chess match, if you hold out certain players for particular games to help that athlete perform better next game, why would you not do it, in particular if you know you have that game in hand? This is why Coach Josh Heupel is so successful, he is making tweaks to not only win more games, he is helping these athletes to perform at a higher level. When Coach Josh said he wanted "Elite" defense it threw everyone off because he has an offensive mind, now does anyone doubt him because Tennessee is playing elite defense???

Ironry is everywhere and karma continues coming to Norman. Bob's Achilles heal was his brother Mike. Mike washed out at Arizona and to come back to Norman Brent Venerables gets pushed out. OU's defenses started sliding downhill with A&M blowing them out the year before and after the Sooners gave up 530 and let Clemson dominate the 2nd quarter of the 2015 playoff game something had to change. Josh was the sacrificial lamb. And it didn't make sense.
Of course, we know what happens next. Lincoln comes in and the offense explodes but the defense continues to slide. But Lincoln gets handed the keys to the kingdom after two years and OU becomes a great offensive team with no defense and continues playoff failure after playoff failure until Lincoln stabs Bob and the program in the back.

@@toddasharpbecause when your team isn’t getting it done, how a head coach saves face is by firing assistants, that’s the 1 move they have or they’re next, it buys them time. The offense wasn’t doing well because Stoops wanted the RPO, Josh didn’t have the qb to run that and it wasn’t his offense. Every OC in the world will struggle if they are asked to run an unfamiliar offense. Mike is involved because the defense was 💩 too, but Mike got to keep his job.
Imagine a coach recruits you, tells your family he’ll take care of you, be a Father to you, and you trust him. Then you do everything they ask, make them look like geniuses, bring them a NC only for those same ppl to fire you 5 years later. Thats total betrayal for something that wasn’t your fault AND replaced by someone who still wasn’t running the offense you were told you had to. If Lincoln could run his offense, why couldn’t Josh run his? Obviously Josh’s offense works just as good.
Were thankful Stoops did it though! We love OUR Huepel 🍊

As far as 80% of fans wanting BV over Heupel, that's a far stretch. I truly wanted BV over Lincoln Riley, but now I'm having my doubts. BV has one major flaw and that is he's willing to lose a game and keep mid-level upperclassmen on the field out of loyalty, instead of putting an all-out better freshman/soph out there.
SEC Commish Sankey knew exactly what he was doing by giving Texas the easier schedule, especially with a player that has the last name [Manning] to rep the SEC and was guaranteed a backup position that could have him starting. It's all about money which means more tv coverage from media, advertising, etc...
