This was sooooo good. Somehow made all the more hilarious by the uncomfortable reaction shots in the room. That's how you know you're reading truth to power and that truth is brutal.
I think a lot of his comedy and roasts go over people’s heads. It’s an acquired taste. Him hosting this award show or any really is a treat.

He had a lot of smart jokes, pure black homor, but the audience was tough. That at the Golden Globes would be great.

Hasan is in his Ricky Gervais stage of life, I don't think he really cares what people think. Also, for people who think he's making fun of Asians or the Philippines, do you seriously not understand irony? Most of his jokes were making fun of white feminism and punching up rather than down.

Most white women were perfectly comfortable siding with monsters as long as there status was maintained. Case and point Cate Blanchette and woody Allen. Hassan is from a country that was literally owned by white men and women for a good chunk of history. He is not punch down.

All the comments for the dead audience seem to forget that this is a dinner first, then a show. People are eating, drinking, talking, so any laughs are a plus imo.

I thought that people on Twitter were exaggerating when they were saying this is a disaster but damn some of these jokes were really bad and atmosphere in the room was so awkward , everyone checked out when he was trying to do a bit, truly the funniest moment is Cate Blanchett getting under the table to get away from participating in that ridiculous bit

I don’t think they should give a hosting job to a non-actor. There isn’t much relationship between Hasan and the Hollywood actors. Hasan is more a political and social commenter.

The quality of the jokes, the punch lines all landed badly not because the topics were offensive to movie stars or Hollywood producers, it is because the writing itself is bad. The jokes should be tighter, punchlines sharper. Topic-wise, use anything you want, but it still has to be entertaining, humorous.

@@OGBeyblade nothing to do with the colour of their skin. He's delivery is just not as good as Ricky's. I commend Hasan for getting up there and calling all this fake bullshit out for what it is but it's coming straight from the Ricky Gervais Golden Globes playbook. At least Hasan was half decent at it, there were definitely some funny bits in there. But again nothing to do with race in this instance.

erm. honestly, that was one of the worst monologue ever. i felt the awkwerdness in every corner of the room.
I love Hasan when he talks on the Daily Show but the jokes here are pretty dire. Hasan seems like the type of guy who watches 5 movies a year.

That was gold! I haven't laughed that much in so long. I cackled at the scandalousness of his searing humour to say what we are all genuinely thinking. Audience was stiff - Hasan was hilarious. This is like Ricky Gervais at the Globes, give it a few years and people will look back and appreciate it a lot more.
I thought it was fine until he went too long on the Deadline bit....

Hasan is so funny and talented but my god he just can't read the room. His Patirot Act jokes clearly don't work here and he just kept on going.
This isn't improv. I'm guessing a lot of the jokes were prewritten by a team. I don't actually see anything wrong with his humor for the most part. He punched up and some of his jokes were pretty truthful and cutting, there was no bullshit. Some of that monologue felt like filler though and could have easily been cut a good five minutes but I don't get why some people think he's dissing the Philippines and Cate Blanchett. Clearly, people haven't seen Tar and also don't get his humor.
Took a while for Minhaj to warm-up, but by the time he was ripping Deadline, I was loving it.
