The thing I like about this bike is that everything works so well. It's got good torque, it's smooth, great brakes( with EBC HH pads), stellar handling: It's comfortable for this 70 year old rider who's six-four and it's just effortless to ride. That makes it way more fun to ride for this senior rider, than anything bigger or faster.
The fact these are so hard to find 2nd hand without high mileages show how good they really are, bikers who have them keep them. Have just ordered a 500 Hornet in black but prefer this one I reckon. I'm chopping in a nearly new VStrom 650 which I find too tall/heavy in traffic and the Hornet felt like a toy in comparison, got the XSR900 (LC kit) for weekends.

I have 2 big bikes Z1000SX & KTM 1090ADV, & a little 300 Rally, but as second bikes I've owned all three 500's, CBR, F & X, the earliest X, 14 plate to last years CBR, 21 plate, 8 in total and have just ordered another F in Pearl storm Grey (delivery about 8 weeks, PITA), very easy to ride, very economical 100% reliable and I find the F version to be the most fun, I do twice the mileage on the CB, and only use my other bikes for specific long rides, I think the 500 range is a grossly underrated. I feel I have a great selection of do it all bikes, good review ER !!

These 500s are such great all-rounders... enough to have a bit of fun, but can be ridden relaxed with enough torque and roll-on power. Fuel economy and reliability are about as good as it gets for a motorcycle. I've heard rumours of a scrambler 500 based on the Rebel chassis which would be quite tempting if done right.
Had a 2020 model a loaner when my Enfield was away for 4.5 months. I agree with your thoughts. Hated the dash and found it hard to read at times. Engine and soundtrack were surprisingly good and it was so easy to ride through traffic in Exeter. I would fancy having a go on the CB500X if anyone had a demonstrator but these are not existent at the moment. Thanks again for a good video.
the only thing this bike is missing (besides a better tachometer) is a little more yellow! i'd like to see that little seat aero piece fully yellow, instead of shiny black with a little stripe on it. i love the color, but it looks a little odd that you have 2 front pieces with it and none in the back.
Why do people only say it would make a great weekend tourer? I have the 2014 version with full luggage and I have no doubt whatsoever that if I had the cash and the time it would take me to the other side of the planet no bother. It’s not an autobahn bike and taking two twenty stone people on a long journey might be a bit of a struggle but for a solo rider I reckon it could handle it no bother. Good series of vids by the way
This bike is, as you say, Bang On! Normally I wouldn’t be a yellow lover, but the color with the black accents just works. I think the addition of a second front disc is a great idea for a midsize motorcycle, just wish my NC 750x had the same treatment. I would like a front windscreen and center stand, but the gas milage combined with the tank capacity would make this a great commuter or Sunday cruiser. With the gas prices thru the roof the CB500f is the perfect choice, plus you can tell all your friends that you have finally “Gone Green”. All the best from the land of Brats and Beer. Cheers

Just returned from a ride to Michigan on the NC 750 and I did 380 miles on Friday alone and I was impressed how well the NC did on Interstate highways. The 500 would struggle at the speed 80 mph plus. Depends on the type of riding you will do, but either bike would be a solid purchase. All the best!
I've enjoyed your reviews, thanks, but wanted to ask what you think this bike is like in the narrow lanes and single track roads? i love my cb125f for it's nippiness and agility, and if/when i upgrade, maybe would like a bike with a bit more power for the hills and to make longer distances a bit more comfy. i don't do much city riding and no commuting, it's pleasure rides only and i'm no speedster. i'm also looking at the cb300r, but for an extra grand this bike seems quite a bit better. any opinions would be appreciated.
The 300r will be a bike you will want to move on from in time but the Hornet will be more ever green I think and higher speced. Go Hornet I think. Both bikes will feel the same around the lanes 👍

Hi, yes the cluster lets it down as you have to read it , some times / all times ? Is it just a wasp with an engine . Thanks for your thoughts and video .
@@exeterrider I think so too. I do like my 250 quite a lot, but it does struggle with 100km/hr to 140/hr passing pulls especially if on a hill roads (NZ’s great geography) Honda make great bikes, very easy to care for and always excellent on gas (this bike looks so good)
my problem with this bike is the looks, the engine is amazing for an A2 engine, good performance, very frugal and not too bad sound, bit that look, it just looks cheap an uninspiring, a shame, when is Honda going to do a CB500R???

@@exeterrider bike arrived 2 days ago live 7 miles out of Durham so all country roads the bike is perfect for the riding I will be doing .After 20 years off riding first mile was a bit wobbly but after that every thing just clicked such an easy bike to ride .definitely not the fastest bike out there but real world speed .I've got a bit of work to do to get my skills back to were they need to be but me and the cb500f are going to get along just fine.

well ; if we were honest ,,, thats all the bike we need. very good looks [ for a modern bike ] top brakes , fancy [ish] forks a2 compliant , nice exhaust , half decent rear end === other makers take note please ... and for around 6 grand ,. i will now stick my neck and say i would buy this rather than the re interceptor , am ducking down now to miss the bullets [ no pun ] bye .......

Would it be better if it was 20 kilos lighter? I don't understand why it's 45 kilos more than the CB300r.. This almost cancels out the extra 16 bhp.
