    Thoughts:
Bed of Chaos: Theme and lore are the only good things about this fight.
Capra Demon: The dogs are annoying but he's fine on his own.
Centipede Demon: I actually like this fight, he's fun and the only good part of this area for me.
Ceaseless Discharge: He's boring no matter what you choose.
Moonlight Butterfly: I never knew it was possible to make a fight this boring, at least you can't say that for Bed of Chaos. Also, the plants heal her so that's why she flies down.
Stray Demon: It's the Asylum Demon but with annoying AOEs and a drop.
Demon Firesage: It's the Asylum Demon, but on fire and has cool lore.
Pinwheel: I can't say I hate fighting Pinwheel but it's a shame the cool theme and lore and cutscene is wasted here.
Asylum Demon: I think he's a good tutorial boss, so he should be a bit higher.
Dark Sun Gwyndolin: This fight has great atmosphere, and that's about it.
Taurus Demon: I like him, his arena is cool and when I took too long for the plunge attack, I got a scare seeing this 11 foot minotaur jump up on the platform.
Crossbreed Priscilla: It's a better gimmick fight than we normally get, her actual fight is meh.
Sanctuary Guardian: You did this guy dirty, he's fun and fair and tense.
Gravelord Nito: The drop and spear are the worst parts about this fight, but he's overall a fun fight.
Gaping Dragon: I really don't get the ' it looks like a p*ssy', it just looks like an open rib cage.
Iron Golem: He's OK, he's fun and not too challenging which is surprising after the area.
Seath the Scaless: He's a pretty terrible fight imo, that flail and curse breath attacks are extremely frustrating.
Great Grey Wolf Sif: She has one of my favourite themes in the series, the fight is pretty well done, it's a wolf with a sword, though it's not fun to fight because I always feel bad for killing her.
Chaos Witch Quelagg: She's the best early game fight in this game.
Gwyn, Lord of Cinder: Kiln of the First Flame is not that long, though I do agree the fight is ok at best.
Bell Gargoyles: These guys always rip me apart immediately, I'm just bad at fighting them, but they're fun. Also, I never get the tail, it just makes the fight harder, and the weapon is usually never worth it.
Four Kings: I like the arena, it's trippy. I do agree that the fight is better having the same moveset. Also, only four appear at the same time.
Manus, Father of the Abyss: This is my favourite fight in the game, he doesn't feel unfair, he has a large moveset. He has a cool design and lore and theme.
Black Dragon Kalameet: The 3rd best Dragon fight in the series, he's got the coolness, fun and difficulty factor, though his head looks like a mosquitoe.
Ornstein and Smough: Definitely one of the better gang fights in the series and the best fight in the main game.
Knight Artorias: This is a great fight, the only thing stopping him being my favourite is his somersault attack, and I think his theme is one of the best.

I always feel like the top 4 in DS1 are pretty set in stone. The order is what is tricky. Personally, I'd agree with you ranking, but swap Manus and Kalameet. I find Kalameet's hit boxes more annoying, and I found Manus is very manageable when you stay at mid range.
Also, that hex attack where the projectiles are moving inwards, you can run towards him. The projectiles stop before reaching him, so there's a safe spot near him, plus it's a few damage opportunity.

    • @Cytonox

Oh thanks i didn’t even know that! I always figured to try and roll back through them but i guess per usual the most unorthodox approach is the way to go. I forgot to ask you guys if you've ever played Hollow Knight. It's an indie Metroidvania from 2017 that takes heavy inspiration from the Soulsborne formula (there are a lot of parallels between it and Dark Souls, in particular). The game has some fantastic boss battles, unique areas to explore, an excellent soundtrack, smooth combat, and rich lore. Hollow Knight is among my favorite games of this generation, and I highly recommend it if you haven't played it.

    • @Cytonox
      @Cytonox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Alex here, Hollow Knight is one of my favorite games of all time (top 5 I'd say). I did everything possible in it except for the pantheon of hallownest since thats insane, but I did beat every single boss on Radiant difficulty other than Absrad in Godhome. I also did steel soul and used to speedrun the any% glitchless category casually, I was never super good but my record is beating it in 2 hours 34 minuntes.

    • @rpgfan1187
      @rpgfan1187 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Cytonox Awesome, Alex! It's currently my #10 of all time, and it's my fourth favorite of the 8th generation after Persona 5 (#3), Bloodborne (#5), and Undertale (#8). Great job on doing the radiant difficulty challenges and steel soul mode, as those are beyond my skill level. I didn't do Pantheon of Hallownest, either, as that has to be one of the toughest gaming challenges out there. I remember watching TheDemodcracy's stream when he finally beat it, and I think he had spent dozens of hours attempting it over the course of multiple streams. My personal favorite boss is Pure Vessel, followed by Sisters of Battle and Nightmare King Grimm.

    @themightymcb7310 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Gotta give a HARD disagree on Manus. Every single attack he has can be fairly dodged except for the wall of dark beads if you know how. He also telegraphs each of them differently with how he waves his staff so you should always know which one he is going to do.
For the wombo combo, dodging back once or twice when he roars is all you have to do. He will slam the ground twice, with the second slam being the end of the combo and an opportunity to hit him. You can just watch him go nuts from mid range and move in for the free hits when he's done.
For the ring magic attack, simply sprint towards Manus and attack him a couple of times. The magic doesn't actually come all the way to Manus himself so standing close to him is a safe zone. It's actually the best of the 3 magic attacks because you can always punish it. It is important not to let Manus get too far away from you once he starts casting magic, however, as there is a range where sprinting to avoid this attack becomes impossible.
For the wall of dark beads magic attack, you have to dodge twice to either the left or right while being far away enough to actually have time to do that. This is really hard to do consistently though, so I use the silver pendant for this one exclusively. If you try to use it for the other two, you'll likely still get hit.
His last really difficult attack is the 2/4 hit combo. He can start it with either of his hands and he can cut it short at 2 hits or repeat it for 4. I usually opted not to punish any of his 2 hit combos because you'd pretty much guarantee taking a hard hit or two, but it is possible to do if you can recognize the end of the combo fast enough to react and get a hit in before Manus can get another attack out.
He's the best boss in DS1 from a mechanical standpoint imo, though artorias does give him a run for his money.

    • @dimcha2669
      @dimcha2669 ปีที่แล้ว

the dark bead is easy to dodge with a single roll, it's telegraphed and it does allow you to get a couple of hits in because he always follows it up with a roar that pacifies him for ~2 seconds

I'm gonna defend some of your lower ranked choices.
BoC: if you hug the wall then destroying the 2nd orb is fairly easy, it can't hit you unless you are near it.
Capra: the run back from Firelink is fairly short.
Centipede: there are 2 islands that you can go to to give your self more room to fight in. You just need to roll through the lava.
    Ceaseless: his lore hits hard.
Butterfly: primarily exists to teach new players how to roll. I didn't know about I-Frames until I had to fight it. It comes down to feed.
Stray: he give a slab, I guess.
Firesage: yeah, no. Cool lore I guess?
Pinwheel: if you are playing a low dps build he can be difficult with his clones.
Asylum: teaches you the core mechanics *very* well.
Dark Sun: amazing atmosphere and decent loot at the end. I normally join their covenant so don't fight.
Taurus: a fun but not too challenging introduction to Dark Souls proper. The first boss after the tutorial, teaches you to use items and be aware of the arena.
Pricilla: How dare you kill her. She is optional you monster.
    S. Guardian: has a great moveset and is a good challenge for what is to come.
Nito: I just love this fight.
Gaping Dragon: the real challenge here is trying to keep Solaire alive. You've over ranked it imo.
Golem: He's alright. You've over ranked him imo.
Seath: Getting the tail sword is difficult, but the fight is fun.
Sif: the tears, the tears. His limping at the end. Fast paced but not punishing.
Quaelaag: you need to pay attention to her or you *will* get punished hard.
Gwyn: he fits the feel of the game to perfection. He really is the embodiment of a world in decay.
Gargoyles: teaches you to level your weapon. Fun boss to fight.
4 kings: brilliant area, great dps check. I normally go light roll with damage-increase rings so losing a slot isn't too bad.
Manus: the hardest boss in the game. My favorite moveset, but that combo is a bitch. You can get an item that blocks his magic.
Kalameet: has the best ring in the entire series. Just a great fight. Takes real concentration.
O&S: this fight is really made by the pillars. I normally go for Smough first because spears are fun and so are miracle builds.
    Artorious: just really fun.
Well, I have just given my thoughts on all of them. Oops.

    8) Quelaag (B - One of my favorite designs for bosses, most certainly. An entertaining fight that requires you to be on your toes and pay attention to the lava on the ground. Very fair fight.)
    7) Sanctuary Guardian (A - Limited HP doesn't bother me too much. It's aggressive, motile, and epic. Not much to complain about. I've beaten two at once and it was awful.)
    6) Sif (A - Ambiance and lore bring this fight up. Very balanced fight and a fun one at that too.)
    5) Gargoyles (A - High on this list for entertainment alone. Such a fun fight!)
    4) Gwyn (A - The arena, lore, and OST drown out the jankiness fight for me. Just WOW!)
    3) O&S (S - Classic duo that helped put Dark Souls on the radar. Epic feel to the fight. The pair complement each other well. Each boss is mostly mechanically sound. Except for that charge.)
    2) Artorias (S - The battle is as epic as the lore may lead you to believe. No disappointments whatsoever. One of the most fair boss fights in the series without a doubt. One of the hardest on higher NG+ settings but does not feel unfair.)
    1) Manus (SS - My absolute favorite bosses in the entire Souls series! Sorry, Gael. Intimidating cutscene and ambiance. Seeing Manus flail his arms around is entertaining and comedic unless you actually get hit by his attacks. Difficulty is extremely balanced and fair for the most part. The most fun boss to fight in the game!)

I really don't find Artorias fun. You have to constantly chase him, he barely gives you an opening, you roll constantly. His intro cutscene is cool but I'd honestly skip him on repeat playthroughs if possible. shooting down Kalameet with the giant's bow and arrow is the coolest cutscene in the game, IMO. And it makes sense that you'd have to weaken the black dragon to be able to stand a chance against him. Manus has the best arena in the game hands down, and the fight is brutal and raw, unlike any other Dark souls 1 boss. His design is really good, too. and the descent into the depths is terrifying.

    My personal top 10:
    1. Knight Artorias
    2. Ornstein & Smough
    3. Black Dragon Kalameet
    4. Manus, Father of the Abyss
    5. Bell Gargoyles
    6. Chaos Witch Quelaag
    7. Great Grey Wolf Sif
    8. Sanctuary Guardian
    9. Gwyn, Lord of Cinder
    10. Seath the Scaleless
I, too, think Gwyn is a bit overrated. The difficulty of his fight is very inconsistent, considering the fact that parrying him turns him into a complete joke, while fighting him without that strategy is almost as unintuitive as battling Pthumerian Descendant (especially in terms of how long his combos last). Four Kings almost made my top ten, but I'm not as big of a fan of the DPS-style of the fight and that it largely comes down to tanking your way through each opponent.
Ornstein & Smough is definitely among my favorite gank fights in video games, although the Sister of Battle from Hollow Knight probably take top honors for me in that category. One thing I've always found confusing is that a lot of people seem to consider O&S the hardest fight in the entire series, and I don't even consider them one of the toughest in this game. I actually beat them on my very first attempt, while I died once to Moonlight Butterfly (my personal experiences can be weird like that).
Capra Demon was actually the boss that gave me the most trouble out of all of them. I think I died 14 times to him because I kept getting pinned by the boss and the two dogs before I could make a break for the stairs, and it probably didn't help that he was the fourth boss I confronted. Capra Demon always reminds me of theDeModcracy's video of the Top 10 Worst Boss Arenas in the Souls Series, and I think he placed that arena second behind the Bed of Chaos' arena.
Speak of the Devil, Bed of Chaos may very well be the most atrociously-designed boss I've ever fought in any game. Here are some other awful bosses I'd rather fight than Bed of Chaos:
    - The Imprisoned (The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword)
    - Nihilanth (Half-Life)
    - Demon Wall (Final Fantasy IV)
    - Doppelgänger (Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse) ---> On second though, not the Doppelgänger. I couldn't beat that stupid boss without placing a save-state directly before the fight, and even then it still took dozens of attempts. It didn't help that I had to fight it at the tail end of one of the most brutally difficult and unfair stages I've ever encountered in any game.
Anyway, I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos! Great job, Guys!

Jack here, Dark Souls bosses are great but honestly the lows are the lowest of any of the games while the highs are some of the highest. Personally your list is pretty legit, Quelaag is just too easy and basic to be top 8 or so in my opinion but to each his own. On the other hand, Gwyn isn’t as mythical as people say but I’d say it’s an undeniably great boss fight. And yeah I mean as I said, Capra Demon, BoC, etc. all are nightmareish encounters that are best avoided if possible. Thanks for the comment bro!

Like Bloodborne, I don't like a good chunk of the bosses in this game, but unlike Bloodborne, I actually have a top ten:
    1. Manus
    2. Artorias
    3. Kalameet
    4. Ornstein and Smough
    5. Sif
    6. Iron Golem
    7. Nito (pretty much solely because of his design, but also yeah, the skeletons weren't enough of a nuisance to ruin the fight, as you said)
    8. Priscilla
    9. Gwyn
    10. Sanctuary Guardian
By the end I was kinda struggling to find any more bosses to put on this list, since a lot of Dark Souls 1 bosses I just kinda feel "meh" about. (everything after Nito I just put on their to fill the list, I don't actually regard Gwyn, Priscilla, or Guardian all that highly.)

Not trying to hate, but I don’t get how you guys think Dark souls 2s bosses are better than DS1’s. I know DS1s bosses aren’t amazing but it has some real gems in the DLC, O and S, Quelagg, sif, the gargoyles, etc. when DS2 just has shitters all around besides for Fume and Alonne.

Gwyn has some genuinely bullshit attacks, half the time he uses the fast slash it just comes out of nowhere, however it can be managed. But like I swear to god the mid combo thrust is genuinely undodgeable, if they removed this one attack I would enjoy the boss a lot more.

Never understood why people like Bell Gargoyles, literally so freaking boring and tedious. All you do is run around in circles and bait attacks, which isn't fun, I'm afraid. Just another example of making something harder by "adding more of them!" Which has always, and will always be the laziest way to make something more difficult, I'm not sure why people think this boss is an exception, the argument that "because the other Gargoyle literally only has a fire attack, the boss is well-designed!" Is some of the dumbest stuff I've heard (no offense to anyone who thinks that). I know EXACTLY the process behind this boss; they made one gargoyle, were like "This too easy!" But instead of working on the boss more, they simply plopped another one in there, except then they were like "this is bullshit!" And so they then got rid of every single one of the other gargoyle's attacks, halved it's health, and called it a day! And because it takes a million years to beat, it gives the illusion of difficulty! Also Four Kings is super high for no reason, they made one king, realized it was too easy, and kept adding more until it was tedious enough to seem hard!
It astounds me that throughout the course of all the Dark Souls games, they have made ONE good duo boss, that being Ornstein and Smough! It also astounds me that Ornstein and Smough are literally the ONLY duo boss in ANY FROMSOFT GAME, that isn't just multiple OF THE SAME ENEMY COPY AND PASTED INTO THE SAME ARENA (not including Godskin Duo because that fight is ass, also I haven't played Demon Souls, maybe there was a duo fight with two separate enemies in that, idk)

I haven’t made it to the bed of chaos yet, so my 3 worst have gottta be capra demon, the 4 kings and the centipede.
I seriously can’t believe the 4 kings made the top 10. Like I absolutely dread that fight. The area is torturous with no bonfires until you kill the 4 kings. You literally gotta run all the way from firelink to the new londo ruins, make your way to the other side of the area dodging ghosts in which you need to consume a special item just to be able to hit em. Once the fight starts you gotta kill every king as quick as you can before the next spawns. Once another spawns, the fight becomes 5 times harder. If a third comes in you’re screwed and so on. Distance management is a challenge because of the area being pitch black, and overall just not a fun time. I seriously don’t think I’ve heard anyone say they actually enjoy this boss fight
