I'm sure that your method is a good one. Have you seen a pants that shows two different shades on the front and back? Is due to the orientation of the material, you had enough material to cut the front and back with the same orientation.

par ye kaise pataa karen... ke Crotch ka nichla centre [ miyani ka center ] belt se exactly kitna neeche ho...ise kamar se VERTICALLY neeche ki taraf kaise measure karen... ta ke crotch center apni position pe perfect baithe... na zyada oopar na zyada neeche... ?
