Giancarlo is the most underrated New Wave competiror: Two times gold. Pretty technical. And, even though he's strong as hell, you never see him abusing that force. Plus, he's not an asshole and apretty down to earth guy. He needs more appreciation. P.S: Jay Rod is a beast, it's just a matter of time for his time to shine. He has all the time in the world.
Jay Looked way better passed guard twice and pushed the round. Giancarlo is also on gear Jay is natural. Jay looked sharp pushing the pace. Giancarlo looked weak.
@@carterman42 Jay is famous for its guard pass but, in the words of Dima himself: He has problems solidifying those positions. Jay pass him twice and did nothing with it. Giancarlo pass him once and mounted him and took his back.
It looked more like a fight in the absolute category, Jay coming from the 77kg division and Bodoni from the 99kg division, an absurd difference in size between one and the other.
If Jay Rod could hold the positions he gets, he would be a lot more effective. The B team guys in general are so focused on transitions and scrambles, they seem to undervalue control. I think Gordon Ryan is absolutely right that the B team guys are great wrestlers and have really good escapes and intuition, but the systematic control using jiu jitsu is lacking.
I don't think its a systemic problem at B Team considering both Nicky Rod and Craig Jones are known for their positional control abilities. I do think Jay Rod could develop a lot here, but he's still relatively new (which is crazy to think), so he has lots of time to mature in this area.
@@lionelbluecobrakai9096 Nicky Rod controls guys he’s way better than, but anyone in the upper tier like Pena, Fowler, or Victor Hugo, he passes but doesn’t tend to maintain position. Craig Jones does have great pinning, but his jiu jitsu is FAR better than the other B team guys. I used the term “in general” because it is a general b team thing. If you watch any of their rolling sessions, it looks like two greased cats breakdancing on a slip and slide. It’s their style and it’s exciting to watch, but I think it costs them in a lot of matches.
@@NickVsqzjr Very true, but he does the same thing against Ethan and Nicky Ryan. It’s just his style and his size probably has something to do with it. But he doesn’t make the cranial shift. He doesn’t crash the far shoulder. He doesn’t isolate arms with underhooks. These are all bjj control fundamentals that would take him from great to incredible.
@@ronaldp.vincent8226 agreed. He likes to hop around a lot. I wish he committed to the Rody lock guard passing like his brother, but I guess he is not too bulky to pull that off.
IF ONLY J Rod would have gotten the golden invitation to train ONE HOUR with 27X (Master) Grand Champion Renato Laranja.....it would have secured him the win but aside from that, I am very proud of a job well done by him and congrats to Bodoni. Outstanding job by both men. Fair play.
As a brotha I gotta say, heavy collar ties are DIFF with cornrows in and folks know it. Rips the little hairs off in the back. Hurts till you've had em in for a few good practices. I feel you J. Stay strong man.
I find it utterly fascinating that the very same people who say “winning the lighter division of ADCC 2024 will be with an asterisk, because all of the good guys are at CJI” also say, “Jay Rod is incredible- he took SECOND PLACE at ADCC 2024!!” You can’t have it both ways.
Do you really think just because someone claims to be natural and "looks" natural that they aren't on gear? Josh Barnett has been busted for PED's more than anyone in MMA and even a couch potato has a better physique than him.
J-Rod seems to focus too much on speed, energy, and athleticism. Sort of just dives in to pass to the left, then randomly to the right. No rhyme or reason. No grinding inch by inch pass. Exploding to try to pass. Think if he focused on a more controlled passing game he's have more success. Plus it opens up options to be explosive. Do you think he was upset that he wasn't invited to the "real" show?
What a rat, he blatantly pulled on his braids at least three times. The strength difference saved giancarlo every pass. Jarrod is always fighting bigger guys
J Rod winning Silver after 3 years of training is very impressive.
its like he loses a year of training every year LMAO pretty sure its been 5. still impressive
@@MilkyCamps I believe it was 4 years last month

What a performance from J Rod though…

Giancarlo cheating out here 😂
The respect and sportsmanship of these folks are admirable

There was clear size and strength difference. There were several positions where Bodonis strength made a clear difference.

holding positions is very difficult against elite guys who are heavier than you
Definitely, but Jay Rod bounces between positions like this even when he rolls with Ethan. It’s a style thing too.

Shawn Williams call things before they happen! Amazing commentator
jay rod really did great here
Bodoni looks way bigger than J rod.
The funny part is Nicky rod and Gordon trying to talk over each other.
Can’t fight scared like that Jay, be fearless.
That’s when you’re best.
Can we get cji rules for these matches already, makes for much more exciting matches
Great match alot of details here always learning from the best!
How are the even in the same weight class?!
Juice vs Natural all i can say

Great match!
B-Team getting exactly what they trained for, good work J-Rod!
Were they even the same weight class? This looked like an absolute final.
Why does Gian Carlo look twice the size of Jay Rod
Bodoni ha surclassato questo ragazzo. era solo questione di tempo prima che lo sottomettesse.
Incredible match, and even though ADCC should be legitimately criticized for a lot this year, this shows how ADCC rules can create incredible matches.
These two guys seem not the same division😢
Bodoni is jacked!
Jay Rod should get shorts that fit, before the next ADCC!!
J Rod ainda vai ser campeão .
I thought J-Rod would have attempted an upside down triangle on one of those positions

Dang against a much lighter opponent, the juice, the juice!!
Great Match.

If Gordon was as succinct in his instructionals as he is in his cornering, I'd be a lot less time and money poor lol.
Get em JJ!
A PSA for everyone: It's pronounced GEE-O-TEEN, not GILL-O-TEEN.
Gordon is delighted!!❤
Let’s go jay rod
Jay rod is althetic as fuck but needs to slowdown and get good passing.
Giancarlo needs to work on finishing that hi-lo!
Jayrod will win a ADCC
alright guys, lets all just agree that j-rod won
