    I loved how the early figures and vehicles were all OD Green color scheme. Just like actual military colors.

    I remember having to have Breaker because he was from Tennessee like me. I never considered him the coolest of the originals(for me that was Rock 'n Roll then Snake Eyes), but sharing a home state made him special to me. And somehow the volunteer state got shortchanged with only 3 Joes calling TN home. Breaker, Fast Draw, and Med Alert. We at least deserved a hillbilly Dreadnok.

    I loved breaker, he would go on every mission, call in air strikes, and make sure everyone got out alive. As for weapons? Well at the time Bespin Luke Skywalker wasn't needing his blaster at the time, so Breaker used it. Then when the accessory packs came out, he got the repro Uzi which he has been carrying sense.
    Another Great review!

    Breaker was the character we all wanted when the line came out because we thought Breaker was, in fact, “G.I. Joe”. If you had an older brother or a friend with an older brother in 82, you were familiar with the 12 inch character, and we thought Breaker was the same guy due to the beard. It also helped that he was in the first commercial riding the RAM, IIRC.

    Thank you for the review! This is why I love this channel! You do an excellent job of explaining the nuances of what some see as just “toys”. My son and I enjoy watching your work and he understands why our toys were so superior! Lol Thx again!

    This was great! Breaker was the first ever Joe that I ever held back in '82 when I was 7 in the yard when one of my friends brought him to school. Later that weekend, my Dad took me to the top floor of Eaton's at the Eaton Centre (where the toy section was) and I got my first ever Joe, Short Fuse.
    Such great memories... thanks for sparking them all with this awesome channel!

    Hi Michael, I recently discovered your channel and I love it, especially the history sections and the ones that focus on a specific character or vehicle like this one. While I'm also Canadian (Montreal), I just wanted to chime in that in the U.S., pay grade E-4 corresponds to Corporal AND Specialist (with an enlisted soldier being able to move from one to the other in rare cases before being promoted to E-5: Sergeant). So maybe Breaker's not a Corporal at all! It would actually make sense that he's a Specialist - Communications or some such.

    • @MichaelMercy
      @MichaelMercy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David! I think it's safe to say every Joe is a specialist. :D

    Breaker was a under rated joe. But when him and dial tone where together they made comunications there business. Revamp to now they would be unstoppable.

    I never owned Breaker as a kid, but he always stood out to me the most in that initial lineup of figures. Probably because he looked like a technical guy and I was always kind of fascinated with technician characters when I was young. I've actually purchased him for the first time recently, as an adult, and he's very quickly climbed the ranks to be one of my favorite Joes.
    I joined the Army in 1991, as a radio repairman, but that eventually got merged in with a few other jobs, during the drawdown years of the 1990s. By the mid-1990s, I was a radio and field-telephone operator/repairman. So, I can say from experience that radio operators always carry weapons. We were issued standard M-16A2 rifles and there was never a time when we weren't expected to have it on our person (unless we were in garrison). Also, there are no conscientious objectors that are allowed to serve in the military anymore. I'm sure Hasbro left out Breaker's rifle because of cost reasons, but he still should have a rifle or a weapon of some kind. I bought an extra Grunt M-16 rifle to give to my Breaker figure.

    Great review! Breaker is a pretty cool character. I think he would probably be a Specialist as opposed to a CPL, though. A specialist and CPL are the same pay grade, however the CPL is a leader of troops.

    Here’s an idea: The Joes always shouted their battle cry in unison, so I think it’d be cool if you overdubbed multiple takes of your “Yo, Joe!” sign-off (maybe slightly altered to sound like different voices), to emulate the TV show.
