- I have had my Moto Guzzi V85 TT for 15 months now, so thought it was about time I put together my thoughts on the bike and review why it was the bike for me. In the video I talk about the good and bad points of the Moto Guzzi V85TT but these are my thoughts and personal opinions, you may not have the same feelings as me.

Hi Pete. Agree 100%. Bought mine as a 60th Birthday to myself 18 months ago. Had many types of bikes in 45 years of riding, and feel the V85 is perfect for me now as I only have one bike. Moto camping, twisties riding, touring at legal road speeds, and gives me that big smile all day. I am more road biased, but enjoy gravel tracks etc. without the 'dirty bike' bit, so find the Anakee Adventures fine for me. Keep up the Love for the Guzzi's..... The V85 is a hugely capable motorcycle, but it is far more realistic then some of the others that are either super heavy weights or have more power than you'd need on a superbike!
Yup, the tyres are perfect for your use, it is the mud and sand they are a bit scary in! :-)
@@HippoDrones Hi Pete, a friend has a 2018 GSA1200. We did a bike swap from Motolegends open day to Rikers cafe, it was great for a fast blast, especially with the Akrapovic end can, but didn't do anything for the soul. I doubt he had a couple of looks back at his, as he tucked it up in the garage...... Happy and safe New Year Matey.

I own a 1998 BMW 1100 GS Adventure bike. The specs show me that your bike is similar in some categories,but a bit much better in in others, I’m 5’ 10”,190lbs.! I appreciate your honesty regards V85 stats and performance. I’m 73, riding since 1967. I cruise at 80 mph on our highways on the average with traffic ,out west at least, and Florida. Your review, I found the best on this bike. Thank You Sir.

Yeah, if you cruise at 80 then the V85 will be a good fit, it is quite happy at that speed, very solid and stable 👍
I've owned sport bikes (CBR600, R1), naked bikes (MT-07), and a Hypermotard. I've test ridden Harleys, Africa Twin, all Ducatis, all Moto Guzzis and others. I watched the v85tt when it came out in 2019 and finally test rode one last year and fell for the bike. I finally bought one last August as it now had tubeless tires/wheels (2021 V85TT Adventure in red). This is my favorite motorcycle I've ever owned. Loads of character and can do anything attitude. Enough power to be fun, enough electronics (cruise control, etc), huge gas tank to be practical, and the adventure model comes with metal side and rear box for only $13k USD. Massive bargain in my opinion compared to other bikes. Super easy to work on yourself, even valve adjustments. Low maintenance with the shaft drive. I don't think it has any negatives except the dealer network. The nearest dealer to Portland Oregon is past Seattle, so I had to drive 350 miles one way to get one.
I've come from sportsbikes to my V85 and love it too, it is very much a "can do" bike like you say. Your bikes are a little cheaper than ours so you got a great deal there! I've not done a valve adjustment on mine yet, but after watching videos on how to do it, I'd not be intimidated by doing them... although, my local dealership is more than 10 x closer to me than yours is to you, around 20 miles, and they have looked after me really well so they get my money for servicing.

Rolls Royce and Bentley's answer on power was listed "adequate". The V85 TT is just that, adequate. When you buy a Moto Guzzi you're not getting just a bike. It is the soul turning of the mechanicals, passion and heritage. Guzzis aren't for everyone but they certainly appeal to a different breed of people.

From someone with 50+ years of riding, I appreciated your outstanding, practical, real world perspective! Being even shorter, I changed out to Hyperpro -25mm rear spring, raised forks in trees to match, backed preload down, took 40mm from the probe stand, about 30mm from center stand, thinned seat while incizing a gel pad and now it is...perfect for me. Well worth the effort. Aside from all the V85's other good points, it's the current best place to start, adventure bike wise, for runts.

Oh wow, you have done the works on yours, it is quite frustrating being short and liking adv bikes, it would be nice if they made the smaller cc ones a little lower too, I guess we are destined to modify! 😄

Hi there I haven’t picked mine up yet; I’ve got the shorter spring on order. How did you shorten the side stand - cut and weld or something a little more creative?
(I tend to not have centre stands as ahem I’m a little short to even get a bike up on one).
@@tomsargeant6567 Tom, yes, I cut and weld. If you use the hyperpro spring and raise the forks in the stantions, then my -40 mm will give you the proper final lean. While this varies between companies and bikes, they are usually most comfortable with about 13 or 14 degrees of list. Minus 40mm will give you that. Next part: of course you cannot just hack the bottom off, but, you can get what you need out of the middle. Here is the easy way to keep things lined up properly: get a metal rod, a bolt, rebar, whatever is handy and a nice fit inside the two ends of the stand. Slide it together, rest the bike on the stand (carefully, with help), fiddle with the foot to get it sitting flat, then either match-punch it or else tack weld it right there. I recommend taking it off and putting it in a vice for welding. If you do not have the equipment/skill that's where doing match punches will let you take your pieces to the weld shop. The welding is the easy part. Then paint, install and ride. I like center stands. For tire changes if nothing else. Get one, take 30mm out, it will rock up easy and you can get it all welded up at once. Note: if you slide your tubes up you will see that they will contact your instrument at near-lock. It's rubber mounted but be sure you qon't break it if the forks swing to full lock. We are talking a couple mm will make the difference. Take care and good luck.
@@williamcannon8035 William thank you for taking the time to explain in detail your "enhancements"! The caution around fouling the instrument cluster is a great top tip. I've been searching for a shorter stand to try and avoid cutting mine.. just with a small nod to future re-sale. I wonder if a different model stand would be the right length. I definitely owe you a virtual beer.
I'm surprised there isn't a "kit" or "published service" for lowering the V85 as I think so many people are interested in this. Seems like it would comprise the shorter spring (or the -30mm Bitubo), an already shortened side/centre stand, seat options, fork drop. Even now it's challenging to piece together all the recommendations - that's why this Amazing review and your Amazing comments are gold dust!

Thank you for taking the trouble to do this review which I greatly enjoyed. I have a ‘21 model and my motive for buying the MG was advancing age and to prevent all too illegal speeds as I had been doing on a succession of VFRs.
So for a change of pace I went Guzzi and I am completely sold on it. The character, the brand heritage, the riding position, comfy on long journeys. It’s a lovely machine, well put together and the McDonalds paint scheme suits my tastes too.
I should have bought the integrated heated grips but heated gloves are just as good. Santa brought a Caponord 1200 mudguard which I fitted in an afternoon.
I’m pleased with the V85, some things could be a little better, the turn button needs a good prod to shut off the indicators, my left glove occasionally and unintentionally flash the high beam as the finger catches the switch. But niggles aside I’m keeping this for the foreseeable future.
Now, I wonder what the V100 will be like….🏍
I think the V100 will be a very special bike indeed, I am super looking forward to getting a demo on one if I can and shall review it too is able.
You got the improved V85 with the tubeless wheels etc, did you demo the previous version? If so, I'd very much love to hear your thoughts on the differences?
Heated gloves are a great invention, and if battery powered, you can wear them on multiple bikes too!
I often find myself going silly fast on my Gixer 750, so it is very nice to be out on the more civilised V85, where speed is just not in the conversation, it gets from A to B with no fuss or dramas, I love it!
Yeah, the switch gear is a bit hit and miss, but it is workable and the cruise control is so appreciated!
I read and read all the reviews out there on something less speedy and, truth told, something less efficiently clinical than Honda’s offerings. Tenere 700, Indian homages to a bye-gone British industry, Tigers.
Having once owned a Fiat which had been screwed together loosely by a Luigi after a boozy Friday afternoon lunch, it had mechanical and particularly electrical gremlins galore
So I was I bit wary of Italian products - but needn’t have been. Quality shines through this machine. I saw the improvements between the 19 and 21 models (which are at best marginal anyway) and took the plunge. I have a good and accessible dealer in Via Moto in Sheffield and to be honest a test ride wasn’t needed, I walked into the showroom and WANTED that thing on first sight.
Risky I know but sometimes the heart rules the head. Do I miss the VFR? In terms of sheer speed it has the edge but on reflection the soul wasn’t there. I can do pretty much everything on the MG and get there just a tad later and moreover in one piece having enjoyed the experience.
But that V100 might be enough to break up a happy relationship!!!!

Just bought a 2023 V85TT in Altai Green. Only 1600kms / 1000 miles. Winter bargain from dealer with plenty of extras. Lovely bike. If you're wanting big horse power then look elsewhere. But if you want a bike with great soul and character that creates a bond of man and machine then Moto Guzzi hits the emotion button. For the roads I ride this bike and engine is perfect. It feels really nimble and confidence inspiring in the tight French Pyrenees roads where I live. The engine is plenty capable and the smaller cc means you can give it some beans and enjoy! It came with a Unit Garage twin exhaust which looks and sounds top notch. I'm looking forward to more adventures. Thanks again for the video!!

Of all the M-G line, the V85 TT Travel is what I would get, but - it's my least favorite, as I'm not an 'off road' kind of guy. Sure, I'm dumb enough to go down a 2 track, but no garuntee I'm coming out the other end!
Conversely, I love your bike (McD's anyone?) & totally get the depth of satisfaction that you get every time you ride. I think of the compensation you make for every bike & how this is worth that effort & more for the joy it gives you.
I'm going straight to the Tuono 660, cuz I bought a Factory version last August, but was informed that I have lung cancer that is probably beatable. Obviously, it's been a long road from mid-August 'til today and I'm down to 5'8" & under 115#'s (51Kg). So, 400#'s & 100HP/50 ft. Lbs. is a great start for the streets around me. I have a big full dresser 2015 Indian Scout as well.
It is certainly good incentive to gain some strength & stamina- neither of which is abundant right now. Recovery has been long & slow (heart issues, also brand new?) may not be helping.

Firstly, well done on keeping the biker in you through all that, it must be quite a struggle at times to keep a positive attitude going on when the cards get dealt so very unfairly.
I loved the Tuono 660 and also the Factory version of it, but for a road bike it was just a little bit too tall for my comfort, which is odd as it was only a smidge taller than the Moto Guzzi V85TT, and I now have an Aprilia Tuareg 660 which is even taller than the Tuono... but I deal with that as it is so good in the dirt... don't take your Tuono in the dirt! 😀
There are some fantastic lighter motocycles out currently, we are very lucky with that choice.
I absolutely loved my "McDonalds" paint and the V85TT, but its more road foccused ride and size meant it just didn't suit what I wanted from an ADV bike, that is really the only reason I no longer have it... Fantastic motorcycle!

Thanks mate, I am almost surrounded by dealers, as have 4 I think within a reasonable distance from me. But yes, other counties are less well represented. My local dealership is super friendly and welcomes demo rides which is awesome!
Great review ,I just bought a 2020 travel & have done a 1000ks in the first week .& the weathers been crap. I have had 20 or more bikes in my time, & this one I just cant leave it alone .I cant believe how the bike goes around corners .Stops & the power is perfect.

He aims towards people who don't know about Guzzis and the aim is to the stir emotions of riding one. Riding a Guzzi is an experience, I own two of them. It has soul and built with passion. Hard to understand all this unless you ride one.

Thank you for sharing a great video! You were honest about your passion for the Moto Guzzi and the slant that it gives your opinion, and that honesty is refreshing! So many scream that they are unbiased because they have some kind of weird obsession with being perceived as impartial. Truth is, we all have preferences and they all influence our opinions! Being up front with that lets us take proper stock of the review and info provided and keep it in perspective in relation to our own preferences. An honest review that lauds the things that are loved is worth far more than all the tepid noncommittal drivel that the "impartial" reviewers are peddling.
I'm off to check your channel for any updates on this beautiful bike but, on the off chance that you haven't made any newer videos about it, would you consider doing a follow up video to this one? Is the allure and love affair still strong two years further down the road? Any hiccups or hang ups? How many miles have you put down, and how has the maintenance been on the V85?
That said, I adore the looks of the V85 TT. It's a gorgeous bike with a modern retro aesthetic that is sure to make it a classic in the decades to come. My only hang ups are the lack of dealership network here in The States, the lack of liquid cooling, and the fact that I have an innate distrust of Italian bikes in regards to reliability/durability. My own bias toward the "boring" reliability of the Japanese adventure bikes, I suppose. If Yamaha or Honda were to produce a 750-900cc shaft drive ADV bike that was sub 550 lbs. with similar features to the V85 TT... well I'd be powerless to resist.
As it stands, my hatred of chains and all their wear and maintenance has me in a toss up between the V85 and the Super Tenere. Do I risk the lack of dealer support, air cooled quirkiness, and smaller engine Italian or do I go with the freight train stable and reliable, though girthy, Japanese liter+ bike... Quite the conundrum!

I very much loved this bike and enjoyed almost all my time with it. So many reviewers focus on the numbers rather than the feel of a bike, I know they are easy stats to churn out for a video, but are also available on the internet for anyone to look up if they feel they need to know them all... I prefer to talk about how a bike makes me feel to ride it, and Moto Guzzi puts so much character into their bikes, it is a delight to wax lyrical about them... I think some people are a Guzzi guy, and others are not...
Sadly the bike is no longer with me, I traded it in for an Aprilia Tuareg 660 which suits my use better (riding trails), the Aprilia is a lesser bike on the road than the Moto Guzzi, but on the trails it is like riding an enduro bike compared to the V85.
Haha... 3 of my current bikes are all Italian, never had any issues with them, but thankfully my favourite dealership is just half hour away so they look after my Moto Guzzi V7 and Aprilia Tuareg for me when required.
Only you can make that decision, I prefer having a bike in the garage I don't want to shut the door on, so looks are a strong influence to me, as is (as stated earlier) how a bike makes me feel when riding it, I don't care about MGP, servicing, resale, blah, blag, etc when I am on it, as long as it has gas and is working, life is peachy! 😀

Only traded it in because I wanted a more dirt focused adv bike, hence the Aprilia Tuareg 660.
Local dealers near me is selling these for under 10k which i think is incredible. A chain and sprocket set must cost a manufacturer less the £5 manufacturing a shaft drive costs lots more. How they get this bike out at less then a French Yamaha or Thai triumph plus many bikes of Indian or Chinese origins is amazing.
It may not be for everyone but if you overlook it you may just be missing out on something very special.

Great review. I'm considering a 2022 V85TT with less than 3k miles on it. Your review sold me. But, at 73 years old and 6'2" with two artificial hips, I'm a bit concerned that the stock seat height might be a bit cramped. Looks like I'll be headed to the local dealer to spend time sitting on their demo. Thanks again.

Proud owner of a new '22 V85 TT Centenario. Almost too pretty to ride.... almost. You nailed the review. A very special bike that is not the best in its class, but not sure anything else is in the same class. Great bike for munching miles and capable enough off road. Did I mention how dang pretty it is? Plenty of torque and power for me.

Got my Adventure MG after riding a Norge for 4 years and needing better off road capabilities for camping. I have had it a year and 13898 miles later I know I made the correct choice. If you don't need to go 100mph and want a simple easy mule to rip up the back roads and enjoy your ride in comfort the v85 fits the bill. I don't ride the freeways or camp in campgrounds and I am not a follower. My other ride is a SAAB 9-5 aero wagon. V85 is a great motorcycle good value fantastic soul FUN FUN FUN Life is a compromise ,I chose the easy comfortable ride. The MG V85 is the only bike for me and my only bike. The best upgrade I have done is enlarging the foot pegs. Dealer service in my town is s it but everything is available on the net and its very easy to work on and maintain. It is a brill bike for motocamping, so easy to strap kit to the bike, even without the panniers!
My miles on mine are only low as I have 3 other bikes, if I could just have one bike out of those I have currently, I think the V85 would be the obvious choice. I think if I were to do more offroad on mine, I'd def change the footpegs, as well as the tyres.

I like to fix and make things so I had some steel plate cut on a water jet and welded it on the stock pegs as aftermarket pegs are hard to find. Also got a set of aux lights and made a plate mount where the front fender used to be. I just have the lower fender like on your bike. Me and my riding buddy have the same bikes and I have to be different. I think its a great bike for older riders wanting a adv that's not intimidating. Me and my buddy really enjoy motocamping and the heavy norges really made offroading scary. V85 is really a all roads sport touring mule. simple with soul , why would you want to ride a 600 pound sewing machine. I will take the roads less traveled thanks. Best of luck to you friend.

I'm a little late to the party, but TH-cam brought me here after researching Moto Guzzis. Your height and want of a certain bike to match a specific style of riding match mine exactly. I was looking at buying a Honda NC750x DCT, but after four months I've all but given up. They just don't exist in the US market. Now I'm looking at a Triumph Tiger 900 GT Low, but the date for it arriving at the dealer has already passed, so my hopes are dropping for that as well. My next choice is the Guzzi V85 TT, and my dealer has the green/silver Centenario version on the floor, bags and all, with a nice discount. It's the tallest of the three bikes, but in my opinion the best looking. I hardly think I'd be "settling" for the Guzzi, but it's the seat height that's holding me back.

I have since traded this bike in for the Aprilia Tuareg 660, which is literally at my max seat height for my inside leg at 860mm standard, but being skinnier and considerably lighter, it is just as manageable as the V85 for my shorter legs. I loved the V85, but it is a more tarmac based ADV than the Tuareg. Might be worth considering if you did fancy hitting some fire trails etc.
Saying that, the Centenario is a beautiful bike, so if a good price, could be spot on for you. If you have the same inside leg as me, you'll quickly get used to the V85 seat height.
@@HippoDrones I'm 5'6 with a 29" inseam, so we're about the same height. I'm looking for a bike with windscreen and bags for mostly commuting and highway travel. Little to no off-roading. My previous bike was a midsized cruiser which was OK, but not the best for spending hours on the US Interstates.

What a fantastic in depth and considered review Pete mate, great stuff. I also love the look of the bike, different and quirky is good, hats off to Guzzi. I think the big four seem to just be chucking out stuff without a huge amount of thought or research into what people actually want. Royal Enfield have done really well for instance, in designing bikes that people want, and seem to be going from strength to strength as a result. Royal Enfield are not just making bikes people want, but they are making them affordable too. I don't get why the other manufacturers seem to struggle with this.

I was sceptical about the V85TT, I thought it was going to be a bit agricultural, clunky, quirky and under powered.
However, I got a test ride and was grinning with incredulity after only 100 metres! What a lovely machine!! My 30 minute test ride left me grinning, I loved every second of riding this bike.
The gearbox was super smooth and the engine an absolute peach (unless you really want illegal speeds), perfect riding position and simply an absolute pleasure to ride. Plus it looks fantastic with its retro and classic styling.
I recently sold my Africa Twin 1000 DCT. Despite its capability and reliability I found it boring, dull and souless. However the Guzzi pulls on my heart strings and it is this passion that is one of the main reasons many of us own motorcycles.
A lot of motorcycle reviews seem to focus on the performance and statistics but forget the love! How do you quantify how it makes you feel? Only you know!
I've got 4 bikes in the garage... I just need to make room for a V85TT.

I have to admit, I wasn't sure on it when it was launched, but the "McDonalds" paint scheme really grew on me and I had to get one, I loved the bike so much, an absolute smile making machine to ride.
From new the gearbox on mine was a little clunky, but got better quickly after the first service.

Down the pub is the only place the power figures count... when out riding, it is how the bike makes you feel that counts over statistics.

Nice summary! Powerwise it is on the level of a Tracer7, which is not bad. Yes, it's a bit heavier, but it also has a significantly higher torque figure to compensate for that. I don't own the bike although I had the opportunity to ride it for around 1000 miles, but I still have it on my shortlist for the next motorcycle I buy. Brilliant!

You’re wrong. This video is definitely the best review I saw about any bike and I’ve seen a few lot of them! I am not really interested in this V85 TT, but now after viewing this video I’m gonna test it!
You said things about the bike that I seek:- that sensation of uniqueness, that sadness you talk about when you tuck it in the garage…that’s the feeling To get when you really identify with your machine.
Character is more important than outstanding performance features. If the target would be speed, this is not the best ride. That’s why is difficult to live with only one bike.
For the road and track (why not), I already have the KTM SDGT. It’s a marvelous bike, but the constant complaints of its electronic doesn’t inspire me to go with it on long touring rides (yet). Too much electronic gadgets, I suppose.
Happened the same with the new BMW 1250 RT. It’s an expensive bike, excellent tourer, but the new electronics and digital connectivity with the phones doesn’t work properly…on a bike of that price tag! It’s simply disgusting coming from a big motorcycle’s brand. Sometimes less is more. That’s what I think about modern bikes.
I’ve been at my local Aprillia Dealership and they also represent Moto Guzzi. At the time I went there to test ride the aprillia 660 RS, and it was fun to ride, but felt also too electronic for my taste. And I didn’t enjoyed the rear breaks, didn’t go along with the rest of the bike, found that fact annoying:- A lot of electronic sophisticated features and a basic level quality rear breaks? How did that happened?? That was for me a deal breaker issue on a sports bike. But your machine was there at the time, I saw it but it wasn’t attractive to me. When I saw it, I thought:- “ …Too short, for a bike trail bike.”. And didn’t pay any attention to it, as I was looking for something very different on the occasion.
I think I will expect to see the touring version of the moto Guzzi, the V100 mandello. And maybe they do a TT version with that engine. There will be more likely for me, to get real interest on the Brand. But because you made this video I will try to test ride the V85 TT.

I think it is often easy to forget that the character of a motorcycle is what makes us love them, so many bikes are too clinical nowadays and over refined, sure they will go 0.001s faster and weigh 0.5g lighter than a previous latest greatest bike, but if they are soulless, then people won't love them. The V85TT has that character that you can fall in love with, I very much hope that the V100 and any other bikes they make with that new engine retain the feeling you get riding these air-cooled Moto Guzzi bikes. I very much hope to get a demo on the V100 when I'm able.
I've not ridden the RS660, but did demo the Tuono 660 a while back and loved it, I was quite tempted by the Tuono 660 Factory as it has all the tech the RS has, but in the naked bike styling. I currently have the Aprilia Tuareg 660, and love it, it is brill for trail riding, and can munch miles well too... is not as comfy as the V85TT though.
I like a bike with good rear brakes too... one of the problems with them all having ABS means the rear brakes on most modern bikes are a bit rubbish sadly.

Very good summary. Many common experiences. I have the same bike in the NW USA and it is absolutely my favorite bike to date after 50 years and 10 bikes. I think the comments on top speed are notable, but it's such a minor concern as to whether the ability to cruise at 105 mph is a realistic/ practical situation. Cruising at 85 mph is easily done and you're 15 mph above the speed limit in 48 states at that. I love the comments about the melancholy experienced when putting the bike away :) It's a bike with great character and it just wants to get out and ride! Thanks for the time and effort to educate those considering the V85TT.

In everyday riding, it has plenty of performance, but I did find myself wishing it had more on a miserable rainy 300 mile trip home from a camping trip, I just wanted to get out of the rain and get the motorway bits done. Which would have been way above the speed limits but sometimes we just want those horrible motorways gone. That was really the only time I ever found it lacking though.
The V85 is a stunning motorcycle, the other manufacturers could learn a thing or two from Miguel Galluzzi! :D

Been there, done that, but even with bikes that would "cruise" at 100 mph, I'd never have done it for very long and I'd have likely been more fatigued by the bike in other ways. My missive was not meant to be a criticism of your review (really great/ balanced review), I just hope folks don't pick a bike with less character and less overall balance based on wanting top sustained speeds they will likely never use :) You can't save everyone I suppose. Agree with all your thoughts and feelings about this bike. I’m coming from 4yrs of GS1200TE ownership and love my V85TT. Its my third Guzzi ( had a Cali EV 1100 & Norge 1200). Your spot on regarding the character and soul of these bikes, and combined with their 100 year heritage and design they are truly special and unique. They are not perfect but you can’t help but love em.
I adore both my V85 and my V7, such characterful motorcycles. Like you say, they have the heritage and that uniqueness you can't get from other bikes!

Great review, thoroughly enjoyed that. You talk a lot of sense and I totally understand that look back at the end of the day, my 350 Classic does that to me. BTW plenty of TH-cam advice on sealing those rims for tubeless tyres, easy to do and well worth it.

Yo vengo de una Ktm 1050 y tengo la v85 E5 desde junio.
Buscaba una moto más cómoda de asiento y más baja para una conducción tranquila. La moto ha resultado perfecta para lo que buscaba y no noto casi los 15 cv menos que tiene.
El único problema son los puños calefactados. En la Ktm tenía 5 niveles de calor y aquí solo son 3. Le falta calor cuando la temperatura es inferior a 7/8 grados. No. Lo entiendo, la verdad.
Pero la moto es una opción muy recomendable si te gusta la conducción relajada : es manejable en ciudad, cómoda y llama la atención.

Sí, la V85 es una conducción muy relajada, tanto en comodidad como en las características del motor, es una motocicleta maravillosa.
Mi V85TT es la primera moto que he tenido con puños calefactables, así que para mí son perfectos, pero me imagino que si estás acostumbrado a los puños más calientes, puede que te falten. ¡Esperemos que el invierno pase rápido y no los necesitemos encendidos por un buen tiempo! :D

Thank you for giving us your long term test and thoughts. You answered all the questions I've had and helped me decide that this is the bike I want. I live in the US so the dealer network is my prime concern and I'm not sure about model availability. I'm fond of the red and white version and I would add the travel windshield, center stand and heated grips. The nearest dealer is about 45 minutes away and I plan on visiting them soon. I'm currently riding a 2004 Victory Vegas and it has been a awesome bike, but I want to be able to explore off pavement areas as well as do some long range touring. The Moto Guzzi V85TT is the best size, price and all around capable that I've seen. Again, thank you for you honest and detailed review.
Hey Bruce, no probs dude, and am glad I covered your questions in the video. The Moto Guzzi V85TT is a very awesome motorcycle, and if you have a dealership just 45 minutes away, that is great, although am sure you'd prefer it to be in the same place you are, better then 2hrs away though! :D
The centre stand is great, really makes maintenance so much easier. The large fuel tank is amazing, so good to be able to ride over 250 miles without refuelling!
I hope you enjoy your bike when you get it as much as I have enjoyed mine while I have had it! 🙂

I sat on my mates Yamaha and I was tippy toeing and it really didn't feel good. I wouldn't have liked to have been at a traffic light like that for long.
This is my biggest concern about the TT. I love it. And I want one, but it will be probably the biggest concern I have.
It is important to be comfortable and confident on a motorbike. I now have an Aprilia Tuareg 660, which has a taller seat height, but I find it more manageable than the V85 as it is narrower and lighter.
@@HippoDrones Interesting. Yeah, I found my mates Yamaha was partly the seat height but equally that it felt like two knives cutting into the inside of each of my thighs. He's substantially taller than me, so probably isn't something he even notices.

I just bought this exact bike with the large Guzzi side and rear panniers also has an after market slip on exhaust ( receipt says $864) on it and only 129 miles on it. I paid $11,995 for it and absolutely love this machine! Thanks to these fine videos including yours I was so inspired I bought my mike unseen in person. Any gremlins or reliability issues that needed sorting out? I'm convinced that this is the bike for me. I love riding slow and taking in the view and I love left-field bikes. I don't want to be yet another GS on the road. I have plans for it to tour up and down italy and the mediterranean in general with my wife on the back. Maybe taking it down the odd gravel/sand/rocky roads to get to remote places and beaches as you find in a lot of mediterranean islands.
It seems like its incredibly easy to work on and I'm not reading any negative points about this bike, I was also looking at a Pan AM (another left-field choice) but the reliability reports are horrifying, not to mention that it costs almost twice as much as the MG!
I think I only had one issue with the bike while I owned it, which was a common fault... It is a oil pressure sensor which can fail, the bike was fine, and could carry on riding, but it flashed up a warning. If it happens under warranty, then it will be replaced by the dealership. Other than that, it was a happy trouble free motorcycle! 🙂

Thorough and impassioned review of the iconic Moto Guzzi V85TT - thank you. An excellent and unbiased review covering all aspects of the bike’s dynamics, finish and ownership credentials. Well, you are certainly passionate about the brand. And I agree, Moto Guzzi is the best kept secret in motorcycling. That begs the question ‘why don’t they sell more of these beautiful, characterful, and iconic machines? Past negative press relating to ‘quirkiness’, lack of dealerships and virtually no marketing budget to think about offer some clues to that state of affairs. Re the V85TT; I want one.
Always wanted one but circumstances have hitherto, prevented that. I’m going to sell the Le Mans in spring and order the new V85TT in Nero black with centre stand, grips, screen attachments (same height as yourself) and that’s all it needs for me. I’m not planning any green landing; occasional gravelly tracks off road, that’s it. What are the updates on the new ones, aside from the tubeless rims? Thanks again for the review, excellent. You described the bike as visceral - a word you could apply to any Guzzi, new or old, and I’m sure the Guzzisti would agree!

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. It certainly is a wonderful motorcycle.... the V100 is a cracker too, I had a go on one of them at the tail end of last year, very impressed with it.
It is a shame that they are not really appreciated by as many as they deserve, but I also kind of like that about them, it means owners can be a little smug in the knowledge that they are on something quite special, that no one else really understands.

The new bikes from 2021 iirc have the tubeless wheels as you mentioned, they also have a fuelling update and are Euro 5 or 6 compliant, not sure which THB. Different paint, but I think that is about it.

Really a wonderful review ,,well done ,,so detailed,,,I had to add to my comment,,its taken my nearly 2 hours to scroll down the 2ft of replays you have got about your video ,,welll...it has been a real eye opener ,,,some of the ideas and tricks are really great ,,, I am now sold ,,,as many of the riders her e ,,old and half fucked ,,had a few older Guzziz back in the 70s and now just made the mistake of buying a R1200 GSA ,,two days ago ,,cant ride it ,,way to heavy and tall for me and dropped it twice ,,,so I am so happy to read all the comments about your Guzzi ,,Like a lot of he people here ..vertically challenged so I am so happy the read how all these people cope and the great tricks they use .

Not paid this Bike much attention, but I must say it's a lovely bike. What an excellent review. I particularly like the way the engine, gearbox and shaft drive is a feature of the bike, a nice bit of design 👍
The engine to rear wheel is def a nice line, and the engine looks great, I do love a vtwin and a longitudinal vtwin like this even more so 👌

TBH, it isn't too bad, it is a very simple bike to service, and valve checks are super easy due to the engine configuration.
At the time I was considering the Triumph Tiger, but the looks of this won me over. I have since traded this in for an Aprilia Tuareg 660 though as it suits my needs better out on the trails.
This is a very in detail review. Overall I think there is nothing left. You just did everything. I like the initial mentioning of "being cricital". :) Guzzis are specific bikes, this is what I think. Have to admin that I am curiously waiting for the V100 Mandello.
p.s. Having the shaft and the low down torque is a big plus. Even if it is not so powerful. I mean 20hp more would not do any harm but in reality I think that 95% of riders do not need it. Hi Barry, unfortunately I don't think that the Piaggio group are attending the NEC show, which really sucks, especially as they have the new V100 which I'd love to see in the flesh.
I loved mine, it was an awesome motorcycle, and the build quality on mine was great.
I am quite lucky having 3 Moto Guzzi dealerships all within an hour-ish of me, but they are solid bikes, and very easy to home service. The only thing you need a dealer for is software updates and any warranty work.

Love my 85 too. Many great points. I'm the opposite from you size wise and find it a good fit. The US models have separate DRL, Lights, Fog light switch. I think the Canadian models don't allow use of the DRL alone. Mine is my do it all bike. Commuting, cruising and camping.

It is a brill bike to go motocamping, so easy to strap stuff down to the rear subframe! :-)

For me the dealer network is a real worry with Guzzis. I'm a lazy man lacking in mechanical confidence so need the comfort blanket of a dealer nearby.

They are very simple bikes to work on, and you can even check the valve clearances without major surgery too 🙂 but yes, a stronger dealer network would be better
Centre stands are essential. I put one on my Ducati 600SS. Routine maintenance is so much easier now.

The V85 is quite beautiful in it's own way, not conventionally though, and personally, I think it looks even better with the white Powerbronze screen I use in the warmer weather, seems to make it look a bit more beefy.

@@HippoDrones I love moto Guzzi, Aprilia, Benelli, Ducati and Agusta, infact anything Italian, its not the engineering that speaks volumes, though it is much better than days gone by, but the aesthetic are truly second to known. It is however a older riders cup of tea as most young buckeroos don't even know what a Moto Guzzi is, a very sad fact 😔.

Good honest review Pete, when i first saw this bike, did not like the look of it all, over time it grows on you, yep stunning bike with great detail. Great colour in the yellow, also like the new green colour, plenty of power for the road for the type of bike its. Interesting review. As a fellow stumpy it was great to see your insights into the Guzzi and adventure bikes. It definitely looks way better then a GS for example. I have stayed away from ADV bikes due to their height and bulk, hence my BMW R1200RS.
They are very off putting to us shorter people.... which is a shame because they are so much fun to ride both on and off the tarmac.
Awesome review. I might steal the concept if ya don't mind, when the time comes that is. I am really feeling that i will have the Multi for quite a while. The more I go off road on it the more I love it. You are absolutely right about a shorter person finding the right ADV bike. I'm 6 foot and most all of them are still a tad tall for me. I sure wish I had a 21" front tire but then taking the twisties wouldn't be as fun.
Another reason I went with the Multi, like you were talking about, is that around here you just don't see them. I have seen a whole 1..lol..and I do see people staring a lot more than normal. Like, What's that? Yep, I wanted and got something different for sure. Plus I got a killer deal on it.

An individual bike is often more important than its abilities... not that your Duc suffers ant so far seems to be super confident on the trails!
Centre stands are so so handy for anything you use a lot that'll need some possible taking care of at the drop of a hat :)
Top boxes are just great for everything except looks usually :D
I have such a huge amount of respect for you taking that bike on even light trails, I don't know would I have the stones for it :P
I'd like to buy a new bike at some point and see about that type of relationship with a dealer, I've honestly never had any major work done, I've spent billions in Freemans this year tho :D

I've often thought about putting a thumb brake on for my rear brake on bikes and I have similar issues with my right side.
Does anyone actually sit at 100mph all day tho? Like.....all bravado aside I don't think many do in Ireland, Uk and most of Europe. Maybe I'm being naïve but I'd only do it in bursts(if I theoretically ever broke the speed limit) :D

I used to be a "who needs a stupid center stand?" kind of guy, I love them now, wish my V7 had one as well, although draw the line at the Gixer! :D Hahaha... same with top boxes, but they are just sooo flippin handy, and is ace to be able to put my helmet in when at bike meets etc.
Ha.... with your long legs, you'd have no issues on the green lanes... I'm too scared to need to get a foot dowm so do all I can to keep the bike upright by itself! :D hahahaa
My local dealership "Brighton Moto" are bloomin awesome, really feel like they have looked after me with this bike, and have huge faith that they would treat me well in the future.... and that is something I am blown away by, as so many dealerships have left me feeling cold even on new bike day.

I must confess, I have spent over an hour with the throttle pinned wide open in top gear on my V7 a few times, but it was motorway, and I just wanted it done, on real roads, that just isn't feasible or wanted.... thankfully my V7 is a trooper and just got on with it...

It really is a beautiful bike - and the reasons you give for wanting it are exactly what mine were.
TBH it was the price that decided which bike I was getting - 1/2 the price of your's, 1/3 the price of the BMW's and KTM's...
it was only through experience that I realised how wisely, or poorly I had picked. To my surprise, mostly wisely!
The seat height of mine is 81cm, but that went up to over 83 when they added the 19" front wheel.
After all this time I've decided the real off-road requirements are ability and the right tyres. I've seen people throw a 1250GSA around like it was a dirt bike, so I am sort of hoping that my abilities are slowly improving. Tyres - well I have the best compromise I can find for a 17" front.
I'd love to see you with better tyres on the V85 on the green lanes, I think you have really good ability, and with your time on the Beta's and other more off-road bikes in the past you have been able to figure the difference in riding off road to on-road.
It was nice to see you ride through that narrow gate with the panniers on and not "do a Bill" 🤣

The looks very much grew on me, I remember laughing at this and the RE Himalayan up at the bike show a few years back, am so glad I gave it a second look though as I think it is stunning now.
I think your bike would probably be slightly better suited to the use I want from a bike, and it's price point makes it a steal, and is far more reliable than the KTMs it would seem... I think you chose very wisely mate!
The seat height of yours with a 21" front wheel is the same as the V85 without one. My ability in our sloppy mud etc combined with short legs is my biggest concern and better tyres would help me compensate for the struggle with my confidence, it could all be a placebo though, or a crutch! :D

As I'm getting older my GS1200 is getting larger, I wanted to downsize and test rode a V85 from my local dealer here in Australia. As you mentioned I just love the feel, the soul and the character you get from this bike.
Although after owning 2 Italian bikes in the past and promising myself I'd never buy another one I did just that. It doesn't have all the gizmos my BM has but I don't care, it's got heart and as you say you need another backward glance as you leave the garage. For more serious offroad riding I don't think it needs a 21" front wheel it needs better suspension and better tyres, I'll put Pirelli STR on next time, they will help with offroad stuff and are still very capable on the tar.
For the rest I agree with everything you say.

Very fair and thorough review. If I was in the market for an adventure bike the V85 would be on the list for sure but not a lot of them around here or at least in Colorado. The USB port is VERY handy and something I install on all my road bikes now days. Does the V85 have a quick shifter? It is a beautiful bike. Damn Italians....make sexy shit all the time.

No quickshifter, I don't think it is an option either. I believe the new V100 sports tourer Moto Guzzi are bringing out does have it as an option though.
@@HippoDrones I think if I got an adventure bike I would have a different mindset when I set out on a ride and would look for some gravel off roading similar to your green lanes over in England which there are plenty of those around here, stuff that Jeep's go on and what not. In that scenario I would be ok without the power of a ZX10 or Busa cause I would have different goals for that ride.

@@HippoDrones That's what I was thinking and yes watching your vids the tires seem to be rubbish for mud and sand. We don't get much mud around here, it's more of a desert climate, we do have a rainy season with monsoon's showers, I've had muddy days over the years at the MX track and snow melt can make muddy conditions but most of the time it's pretty dry in Colorado. I think a V85 would be pretty solid around here.

Hi!, great video. I hesitate about getting the v85tt or the tenere 700 world raid , I need a reliable machine, my style is trail, jet I do little off-road stuff. I'm sure the V85tt would be more than enough for my needs... I do not know what to do..😅. Both machines look amazing with a price tagg about the same. Wha's your opinion??..thank you.
I traded the V85 in for an Aprilia Tuareg 660 as I wanted to take it in the mud more. So if you want to 99% ride tarmac, get the Moto Guzzi, if 50:50 road:trail, get the T7 or consider the Aprilia!
Thanks for your advice , I understand that the T7 Would be a better choice in case of taking it off-road... may be you know how much confort would I be lossing on-road when comparing a t7 or tuereg 660 to a v85tt for commuting or long distances, even with my couple. Another aspect would be the reliability, as I already have a yamaha XT660R for 15 years with no issues whatsoever. With Japanese machines reliability seems granted. I apreciate your thougts. Thanks.
@@davidcollazos8985 the Moto Guzzi will be pretty solid. The T7 has a proven track record for reliability. I've not heard of any catastrophic issues from the Aprilia Tuareg, but the engine is newer than the others, but has been well stress tested in the RS and Tuono 660.

@@HippoDrones they’ve got the last black one of 2021, 100th Anniversary at a great price. Will trade in my 1260 Multistrada if I can before I kill myself on it. To powerful and too tempting to open that throttle, it’s so easy. I value my retirement and still want to keep biking but in a little more style. Had a MG Griso a couple of years back and loved the character and sound. Should of kept it. Will this time.
The Griso is a beautiful bike... as is the black 100th anniversary V85TT. Hahaha... I can relate to wanting to calm it down a bit... although I do still have a GSXR750 tucked away in my garage! :D
I after to say your wrong , your review was very good , you gave an honest opinion and I like that👍 . I’m 63 and haven’t been on motorcycles since 1981 , next year I’m going to buy a bike for touring but have not made my mind up. The t85 looks very good as I will be doing long distances , I like the shaft drive my last bike all them years ago was a Kawasaki z1000st which was extremely comfortable and a very smooth shaft drive but drank the fuel. The sensible head on me says buy a t85 but my heart says Honda cb1000r or cb1100rs but both chain drive?? I do like Honda but have never even sat on a moto guzzling. Sorry I’m waffling on.

That was a very well presented and thorough review mate. I'm totally with you about screens. Manufacturers need to get their heads out of their arses and put more flexibility into these things. I absolutely positively cannot deal with buffeting. I'd rather not ride. I'd much rather just have the naked wind in my face.

Thanks DT, yeah screens should add comfort, not discomfort, both physically and mentally... and quietly. My Gixer is not too bad, but this is very noisy behind the screen for my dimensions and without the deflector, my head wobbles around in the turbulence like a bobble hat bobble
@@HippoDrones that's what the AT was like for me before I changed the screen. It's flippin horrible isn't it. It's about time that when you a new bike the dealer looks at height and weight etc and puts the right springs in and a bigger or smaller screen to suit the rider. If one dealer does it they'll all have to. It'll be a Chinese one for sure and then hopefully they'll all adopt it.

Thanks for the review. I appreciate your personal view of it. I ride motorcycle from 1990 onwards, having had all sorts of bikes. Switched to a Suzuki Burgman 650 in 2014. Still love to ride that.......but, the itch came again to look what was on the market today, as a real motorbike. I ended up with some wishes the new bike should have: 2 cilinder engine (V shaped or boxer type, non-chain final-drive, good looks (is very personal of course), longer suspension ways than the 650 Burgman, panniers, and "overall character".
I was actually aiming for the BMW F-series and was surprised to find that the belt-driven F was no more. Only chain-drive.....so, bye bye F-series for me.
I have had 2 BMW's before. The R1100RS and the K1200RS but was now more into looking at was are called "adventure" bikes. The R1250GS now seems to bulky for me and I find it ugly, in fact.
So I got to know that there was the successor to the Stelvio around these days, being the V85 TT by Moto Guzzi.
Looked at a lot of reviews and presentations and it got my interest.
I organized for a test ride here in the Netherlands, where I rode it for about 45 minutes. There just wasn't anything that I didn't like about it, except for the placement of the "high-beam" head-light switch, which I flipped every time I pulled the clutch handle..........not a deal-breaker, haha.
My V85 TT Travel is on order with my dealer and I'm looking forward to do many happy kilometers on it.
I would recommend any potential buyer to at least consider this bike. It has character (engine-wise and looks) is well built.....and......there are just too many R1250GS'ses riding around ! ;--))

Hi again, I wondered where I could find definitive advice on breaking my new V85TT in? I’ve downloaded a service manual for it but couldn’t find anything. Maybe I get an owners manual with it? Just wondered if you had any thoughts as there seems conflicting advice as always on interweb of stuff 😊
@@thesmithsmaf I think the rev limit lights on the dash are set low to start with, so stay below them, don't load the engine, change gear lots and enjoy.

I love the look of these and the idea of the shaft drive as well as the easy valve maintenance. Tube tires are no big deal to me, my Elefant has tubes 🤷♂️ and it's never been an issue.
Not sure what the big deal is with needing dealers close by, as only one of my bikes has a dealer anywhere near me and I make out fine. I suppose if I needed warranty work that might come up, but I do all my own maintenance.
It sounds like it handled as well as the Elefant, which is the best handling bike I've ridden. This seems like a great commuter/long distance touring/Adv bike with the combination of shaft drive, easy valve maintenance, and great mph.
They are a really good looking bike but also a step away from the normal, which I love, I like how bold it is in being different! 🙂
The newer versions are tubeless, so those who are fine with tubes, can save some money by buying an earlier bike, and for those it matters to can get a newer one. I prefer this version of the white/yellow/black paint to the newr version, but paint is all down to personal taste I guess 🙂
In the UK, we need to get our bikes serviced by a main dealership to maintain our warranty, so for us having a local ish dealership is a bit more useful. I'd not want to have to hire a trailer to get it to a dealership a day away from me if I lived in the middle of nowhere in the USA though just to sort a minor warranty issue, so I can very much see for some the distance between dealerships being more of an issue in that scenario.
It is no sportsbike, but it does handle very well, very stable in the corners, it's weight is an advantage there over the lighter middleweight adventure bikes like the Aprilia Tuareg 660.
Shaft drive is soooo good. I have a Moto Guzzi V7 as well which I've had from new, is now 10 years old and not having had to do any chain maintenance on that bike has been amazing, I am a huge fan of shaft drive.

My dealership is around 30min, so super handy. I very much hope you can get your bike fixed, it is awful to have someone trash your pride and joy, I hope you were not hurt and or are fully healed up now?

@@HippoDrones Stupid TH-cam - they switched everyone to "real names" years ago for some reason, I switched back, but occasionally it still logs me in to the wrong account. Same person! :D
