Concerto bellissimo, la prima parte è briosa e travolgente
At the moment this is the best interpretation of the fifth concerto, stressing its imaginative and mysterious second movement.

Francesco Durante was an innovative composer

The melodic line has phrases like something Monteverdi might have written
I don't know why I say that no
Francesco Durante was a bit like C.P.E. Bach he was a great innovator and often sounded quite
unorthodox. Durante s contempoaries were people like
Galupi, Pergolasi znd G. B Samartini.
Johann Sebastian Bach was able to appreciate good works by other composers, as is shown by contemporary accounts, and by a glimpse into what remains of his music library. Francesco Durante, maestro di cappella in Naples, was known in his time as an accomplished composer, who in his sacred works sought to achieve accommodation between the strict "stile antico" and the "stile moderno" of concert music at that time. This combination distinguishes his Mass in C minor, and it may have been what awakened Johann Sebastian Bach's interest in this work. He copied it about 1730, not merely for study purposes but in order to perform it, as is indicated by various alterations which he made to the composition. Bach replaced the "Christe" by a composition of his own, and for the "Kyrie II" he used Durante's music for the "Gloria", making the alterations required by the different words. A worthwhile discovery!
Gerard. You are completely in wright. Durante never personally crossed the Alps, but his church music did. Durante graduated from the Sant'Onofrio conservatory in Naples, just two years prior to the Austrian conquest of Naples. After the Austrian conquest of Naples in 1707, Masses, motets and Psalm settings, by Francesco Durante, Nicola Fago, Domenico Sarro, made their way into Bohemia, the Austrian Netherlands, and Saxony. Durante is master of true and genuine liturgical music!
The music is interrupted every 10 minutes by shit comercials and publicity 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
