University of Chicago in autumn is the ultimate college atmosphere. I'm not saying there aren't other colleges that can be just as good, but the UofC is the most quintessentially academic environment, and autumn, with leaves (like people's clothing) changing to those darker fall hues, the days shortening, intensifies everything about the University of Chicago atmosphere. It's so sad how fast it goes, though: the 10 week quarter flies by. Cherish it while you have it! But it can also, of course, be a time of great stress with that institution's extremely demanding curriculum. Unfortunately, winter and spring can be depressing there, in my view, because the year increasingly feels like it's winding down. While most people think of spring as a time of "rebirth," I actually think at UChicago that "rebirth" feeling is only around late summer through early to mid-autumn, from when the beginning of the academic year as hinted at in summer's shortening days, through autumn's peak at Thanksgiving. That period is when the University of Chicago is most intensely the University of Chicago. Sorry for prattling on and on about such superficial things.... but Hyde Park at that time of year is just magical.
I totally agree about autumn quarter. I've never experienced such an autumn autumn before. but winter is indeed brutal, and spring is just spring there. U get a hint of heat and that was enough for me as a first year. going from the south of America to the midwest of America was a huge change all around.
Hey, I’m currently a junior in Highschool and UChicago as sent me a lot of stuff. I was wondering what is your experience being there and would you say it’s a good school ?
