I gave up reading or watching the news over a year ago and it's been one of the best choices I've ever made. I was well informed about things going on all over the world, certainly, but I wasn't able to do much about the issues I was upset about. I could get angry or depressed, but that was about it in most cases, and the negativity started to overwhelm me, so I had to give it up. I still find out about the most important news regardless of all the filters I've set, but I've cut out most of the noise, and I feel so much better for it.
It sounds like you made an excellent decision. You are absolutely right: we make ourselves sick listening to so much of the news, and ultimately, we feel even more powerless. I'm glad that you are feeling better now, John.
I never get tired of reading Agatha Christie. She’s kind of a delightful pleasure between heavier reads. Loved your answers to this tag. Oh yes, self care is my main goal too. I avoid the news mostly and immerse myself in what I love-my days ahead are fewer than my days behind, so I want them to be as joyful as possible.

I don't need to tell you how excited I am that you're going to try some of his work. And Children of Time, too -- I hope you have as great a time with it as I did! You couldn't have a better buddy to read with than Lekden -- he and I are two thirds of the way through buddy-reading one of Tchaikovsky's fantasy trilogies, and it's been an absolute joy reading and discussing that with him. Enjoy! 😊
