I think i‘ve got an okish Void Century theory. 900 years ago the 20 kingdoms fought against the Ancient Kindom that had the Ancient Weapons. To win against the Ancient Kindom the 20 Kings needed a weapon themselfs and created the Devil Fruits (maybe it was a stolen technology, maybe it was their own technology, doesnt really matter). But those original DF also had similar side effects as the Artificial DF we see currently in One Piece: It made some people laugh uncontrollably. To protect themselfs the 20 Kings used those failed DF on some of the slaves they gathered during the war (slaves=reocurring theme), mainly from the AK. The 20 Kings killed the slaves that ate fully functional DFs, reincarnated the DFs in new fruits and ate them to gain the powers without side effects. But the failures still lived as slaves for the now forming WG and maybe they were the last survivors of the AK. Those slaves still laughed, even if they were about to die. So the laughing smile on their face became their trademarks and they put a smiley face in their names: D One day those slaves escaped from the place they were held and that place became just a tale about laughing people: Laugh-Tale. The slaves sworn to take revenge on the WG but they never managed to so. But the spirit lives on in their bloodlines. The offsprings of the slaves still shows signs of the curse when they are near death by smiling. Thats why the clan of D is the sworn enemy of the Celestial Dragons. The End.

Perhaps the One Piece world was similar to our own before the void century (with large continents as opposed to many islands) but the use of the ancient weapons destroyed the land and made the world what is today.

I wonder if there is information to be found in the sunken sections of Water 7. Wouldnt the true shipyard that built Pluton be there? When Iceburg turns Water 7 into a Thriller Bark-esque ship, he is not going to chop the island off at the waterline so all that is going to come to the surface soon. There is also something curious about Tom being a shipwright there. We know that Fishmen on the surface is a VERY rare thing, Tom being a Fishman could explore the submerged Water 7 all he wanted.
Personally, I think something like 5000 years ago the world was in a bit war and the only place that survived was Raftelle. The sole reason the red line and the grand line exist is because of that war and the high tech of that era. 800 years ago one of the member of the 20 families found out that his family was descended from the officers that survived that ancient war and that the 20 families had kept really high tech locked away, he started a revolution that lasted 100 years and is the reason for the new world's strange islands. He lost and at the end, to ensure something like that couldn't happen again the 20 families all gathered together. My headcannon is also saying there were no devil fruits until 800 years ago, and that that was part of the tech that was being kept hidden.
AlucardNoir I theorize that One Piece story is about the All Blue. Before void century, the world is in one piece of all blue. After void, it is split into 4. I am guessing that the Poseidon is capable to make use of sea kings to create the calm belt and, hence, the grand line. And, probably pluton is a weapon to destroy island to pieces; meanwhile, Uranus is capable to construct the red line. So, to restore the world into one piece, you need Poseidon to remove the calm belt, Pluton to destroy the red line and Uranus to rearrange the island formation.

The new world is clearly a product of devil fruit abuse. There would be no reason for it to exist as it is now if 900 years ago they could fight with so much power so as to create the Calm Belts and the Red and Grand Lines. But if the Red and Grand Line existed already, then it would make sense that the New World would be the product of multiple awakened devil fruit users fighting with one another.

Poneglyphs can't be made from kairouseki, otherwise Robin would have exhibited weakness symptoms when reading the one in Alabasta, or Brook couldn't have gotten rubbings of the Road Poneglyph in Totland.
In Void century king of Alabasta called Imu Nefretari gifted powerful artefacts called Pieces to 19 kings and using the One Piece To Rule Them All he bent their minds to his will and created an alliance that defeated the ancient kingdom. He then took the kings to Mariajois and used them as puppets to control the whole world. The One Piece was however stolen by a hero called Joy Boy and he journeyed further then WG ever could and hid it on an island he named Laughter.

The varying styles of writing that are constrained in one format of storytelling, the continuity that has everything but internal logic, the crap-shoot nature of the anomalies mixed with the oddly specific nature of the containment procedures...it's weird but I f*cking love it Even if it's not your type of storytelling I'd specifically recommend SCP-2000. in the latest chapter when Garp says something about Alabasta I think it has something to do about ancient weapons and is a lead up to readers getting a greater understanding of the void century. I believe this for two main reasons 1) Alabasta of all places was the place where "something happened" and we all know the history of Robin, ALabasta and the ancient weapon there/the poneglyph. 2)The Reverie just happened and celestial dragons have been talked about more and more and the world government is desperate and etc etc so its very good timing for something huge to happen possibly involving the void century

Tekking, don't you find it odd that the Kozuki clan was responsible for carving and transferring the ancient language into the poneglyphs, AND they are responsible for closing the boarders of Wano. Now that the "Dawn" is coming, Oden wanted to open the boarders. It seems like the Kozuki clan had a reason to isolate themselves from the world (government), and now that the balance of power in the world is shifting the Kazuki's will start interacting with the world again in the form of opening Wano.

I rewatched Luffy vs Katakuri fight and realized, technically crocodile did the same thing as Katakuri, I remember Crocodile saying he was able to switch to sand before he even noticed, like a reflex, maybe just didn't know it was observation haki?
History before 900 years ago is known. In the Ohara flashback they talk about how there is larger scientific community and imply that it includes archaeologists. They also say it's specifically a century that's blanked out, and it's heavily implied that history before and after the void century is known. We also find out that the World Government was established 800 years ago and didn't exist before. Clover says that based on what they did find out about the void century, a great kingdom existed then and he thinks that kingdom is what's hidden. Which probably means that 900 years ago is when the ancient kingdom was established and 800 years ago is when it fell. We've also heard about stuff that happened before 900 years ago, like the tontatta and the arm-leg tribe conflict.
I have a theory that the straw hats all know that their other main goal is to help luffy bring down the WG and celestial dragons because luffy has the will of D. So I have an extremely crazy theory about everything before and during the Void Century that is only based on the Strawhat, the D. Clan, the World Nobles, the World Government, and Devil Fruits. So get some tinfoil hats. Ready? Here we go: So way back before the void century, there were 21 noble families. 20 of these families created the World Government, but only 15 of them are considered World Nobles, the first 10 being Tenryubito, and the last 5 being the Gorosei. The rest split off, left and made their own kingdoms. Except 1. The only family who defected and chose a different life. They chose a simpler life. They became farmers, but not just any farmers, they dabbled in alchemy and dark arts, and produced a new produce: Devil Fruits. A strange but powerful type of fruit that upon consumption, gave the consumer incredible powers at the cost of being weak to saltwater and a newly found substance called Seaprism Stone. This exiled group had one common trait: they all wore Strawhats. But the World Government feared them and called them sworn enemies of the gods, labelling them as the D. Clan. D as in Devil. This led to a 100 year war, in which only a few members of the D. Clan survived. Basically a genocide. Those that survived left whatever island they were on and went somewhere to hide. This event was stripped from any records or history books. It was retitled and changed. It became the Void Century. A century in which no one knew what was going on in the world, except of course the World Government. They made sure to hide away this event as anyone who found out would realize that the W.G. had blood on their hands. Innocent blood I might add. I have some more I might add but for now, I rest my case.
one thing ive never seen anyone point out, is what if the ancient kingdom(prosperous or not) was actually WORSE than the WG? the WG being the lesser of two evils that managed to suppress the greater evil... i mean the ancient kingdom did have 3 world shakers ancient weapons and they may have used pluton, Poseidon and Uranus to subjugate the world... makes you think
Unfortunately the show is for kids and despite having adult themes is pretty much always pushed to the side by the lighthearted tone. There is also the problem with the sheer length of it all and just how little progress we have gotten in terms of actual story. Character development is a big problem and despite the world building being extremely strong it is held back by the author and his reluctance to actually expand upon it and reveal more things. At its core one piece is not for everyone, it has problems and a pretty big amount of plot armor. There is soo many problems with the series that counting them all would be a huge task but in summary, one piece despite its incredible length seems to always lack a significant amount of progress in terms of plot and story. I mean most people that jump on the one piece bandwagon can recall 2 or 3 arcs that were actually outstanding with only 1 being the pinnacle of the series and not ever being surpassed despite soo many years having passed.

My theory is that before the Void Century, the D. clan where the ones in charge. The Celestial Dragons came in, overthrew the government, the nobles, etc..and took over. That's why those with the Will of D are the enemies of the World Government. Although, to some degree I don't really like it too much as it makes characters like Luffy essentially the descendants of nobles or kings.

Something I just noticed. The Kozuki clan existed 900 years ago. Oars lived 400 years ago. Eather the Kozuki clan is older than Wano or oars did not create Wano. Niether is confirmed just two contredictary theories

What I do want to know is if the Kozuki Clan created the poneglyphs, that means they were involved in what happened in the Void Century which questions how Wano still exists if it seems like the Kozuki Clan weren’t siding with the World Government, unless they were siding out of safety but were secretly going behind their back and creating the poneglyphs but then it also questions how the W.G. know what’s written on them?
Videos like this make me realise how much Viola is wasting her powers in Dressrosa... with her devil fruit ability, all she had to do was find a place to hide near the pangea castle. Dragon would love to have her in revolutionary army. I hope she dies soon and someone who has better use for the fruit gets the power.. But those original DF also had similar side effects as the Artificial DF we see currently in One Piece:

To protect themselfs the 20 Kings used those failed DF on some of the slaves they gathered during the war (slaves=reocurring theme), mainly from the AK.
The 20 Kings killed the slaves that ate fully functional DFs, reincarnated the DFs in new fruits and ate them to gain the powers without side effects.
But the failures still lived as slaves for the now forming WG and maybe they were the last survivors of the AK.
Those slaves still laughed, even if they were about to die. So the laughing smile on their face became their trademarks and they put a smiley face in their names: D
One day those slaves escaped from the place they were held and that place became just a tale about laughing people: Laugh-Tale.
The slaves sworn to take revenge on the WG but they never managed to so. But the spirit lives on in their
bloodlines. The offsprings of the slaves still shows signs of the curse when they are near death by smiling.
Thats why the clan of D is the sworn enemy of the Celestial Dragons.

I wonder if there is information to be found in the sunken sections of Water 7. Wouldnt the true shipyard that built Pluton be there? When Iceburg turns Water 7 into a Thriller Bark-esque ship, he is not going to chop the island off at the waterline so all that is going to come to the surface soon.
There is also something curious about Tom being a shipwright there. We know that Fishmen on the surface is a VERY rare thing, Tom being a Fishman could explore the submerged Water 7 all he wanted.
Personally, I think something like 5000 years ago the world was in a bit war and the only place that survived was Raftelle. The sole reason the red line and the grand line exist is because of that war and the high tech of that era. 800 years ago one of the member of the 20 families found out that his family was descended from the officers that survived that ancient war and that the 20 families had kept really high tech locked away, he started a revolution that lasted 100 years and is the reason for the new world's strange islands. He lost and at the end, to ensure something like that couldn't happen again the 20 families all gathered together. My headcannon is also saying there were no devil fruits until 800 years ago, and that that was part of the tech that was being kept hidden.
AlucardNoir I theorize that One Piece story is about the All Blue. Before void century, the world is in one piece of all blue. After void, it is split into 4. I am guessing that the Poseidon is capable to make use of sea kings to create the calm belt and, hence, the grand line. And, probably pluton is a weapon to destroy island to pieces; meanwhile, Uranus is capable to construct the red line. So, to restore the world into one piece, you need Poseidon to remove the calm belt, Pluton to destroy the red line and Uranus to rearrange the island formation.

The new world is clearly a product of devil fruit abuse. There would be no reason for it to exist as it is now if 900 years ago they could fight with so much power so as to create the Calm Belts and the Red and Grand Lines. But if the Red and Grand Line existed already, then it would make sense that the New World would be the product of multiple awakened devil fruit users fighting with one another.

Poneglyphs can't be made from kairouseki, otherwise Robin would have exhibited weakness symptoms when reading the one in Alabasta, or Brook couldn't have gotten rubbings of the Road Poneglyph in Totland.
In Void century king of Alabasta called Imu Nefretari gifted powerful artefacts called Pieces to 19 kings and using the One Piece To Rule Them All he bent their minds to his will and created an alliance that defeated the ancient kingdom. He then took the kings to Mariajois and used them as puppets to control the whole world. The One Piece was however stolen by a hero called Joy Boy and he journeyed further then WG ever could and hid it on an island he named Laughter.

Tekking, I would recommend looking into the SCP Foundation. The varying styles of writing that are constrained in one format of storytelling, the continuity that has everything but internal logic, the crap-shoot nature of the anomalies mixed with the oddly specific nature of the containment procedures...it's weird but I f*cking love it
Even if it's not your type of storytelling I'd specifically recommend SCP-2000. The ideas behind it are essentially what the world government may have done. Plus, SCP-2000 is a pretty good introduction to the absurdity of the SCP Foundation if you're unfamiliar

I believe this for two main reasons 1) Alabasta of all places was the place where "something happened" and we all know the history of Robin, ALabasta and the ancient weapon there/the poneglyph. 2)The Reverie just happened and celestial dragons have been talked about more and more and the world government is desperate and etc etc so its very good timing for something huge to happen possibly involving the void century

Tekking, don't you find it odd that the Kozuki clan was responsible for carving and transferring the ancient language into the poneglyphs, AND they are responsible for closing the boarders of Wano. Now that the "Dawn" is coming, Oden wanted to open the boarders. It seems like the Kozuki clan had a reason to isolate themselves from the world (government), and now that the balance of power in the world is shifting the Kazuki's will start interacting with the world again in the form of opening Wano.

History before 900 years ago is known. In the Ohara flashback they talk about how there is larger scientific community and imply that it includes archaeologists. They also say it's specifically a century that's blanked out, and it's heavily implied that history before and after the void century is known. We also find out that the World Government was established 800 years ago and didn't exist before. Clover says that based on what they did find out about the void century, a great kingdom existed then and he thinks that kingdom is what's hidden. Which probably means that 900 years ago is when the ancient kingdom was established and 800 years ago is when it fell. We've also heard about stuff that happened before 900 years ago, like the tontatta and the arm-leg tribe conflict.

So I have an extremely crazy theory about everything before and during the Void Century that is only based on the Strawhat, the D. Clan, the World Nobles, the World Government, and Devil Fruits. So get some tinfoil hats. Ready? Here we go:
So way back before the void century, there were 21 noble families. 20 of these families created the World Government, but only 15 of them are considered World Nobles, the first 10 being Tenryubito, and the last 5 being the Gorosei. The rest split off, left and made their own kingdoms. Except 1. The only family who defected and chose a different life. They chose a simpler life. They became farmers, but not just any farmers, they dabbled in alchemy and dark arts, and produced a new produce: Devil Fruits. A strange but powerful type of fruit that upon consumption, gave the consumer incredible powers at the cost of being weak to saltwater and a newly found substance called Seaprism Stone. This exiled group had one common trait: they all wore Strawhats. But the World Government feared them and called them sworn enemies of the gods, labelling them as the D. Clan. D as in Devil. This led to a 100 year war, in which only a few members of the D. Clan survived. Basically a genocide. Those that survived left whatever island they were on and went somewhere to hide. This event was stripped from any records or history books. It was retitled and changed. It became the Void Century. A century in which no one knew what was going on in the world, except of course the World Government. They made sure to hide away this event as anyone who found out would realize that the W.G. had blood on their hands. Innocent blood I might add.

Never heard of one piece. This show seems like it has a well constructed world with its own history

Unfortunately the show is for kids and despite having adult themes is pretty much always pushed to the side by the lighthearted tone. There is also the problem with the sheer length of it all and just how little progress we have gotten in terms of actual story. Character development is a big problem and despite the world building being extremely strong it is held back by the author and his reluctance to actually expand upon it and reveal more things.
At its core one piece is not for everyone, it has problems and a pretty big amount of plot armor. There is soo many problems with the series that counting them all would be a huge task but in summary, one piece despite its incredible length seems to always lack a significant amount of progress in terms of plot and story.
I mean most people that jump on the one piece bandwagon can recall 2 or 3 arcs that were actually outstanding with only 1 being the pinnacle of the series and not ever being surpassed despite soo many years having passed.

My theory is that before the Void Century, the D. clan where the ones in charge. The Celestial Dragons came in, overthrew the government, the nobles, etc..and took over. That's why those with the Will of D are the enemies of the World Government. Although, to some degree I don't really like it too much as it makes characters like Luffy essentially the descendants of nobles or kings.

Something I just noticed. The Kozuki clan existed 900 years ago. Oars lived 400 years ago. Eather the Kozuki clan is older than Wano or oars did not create Wano. Niether is confirmed just two contredictary theories

imo shanks is a will D. but also a noble from one of the celestial dragon families. he excommunicated from the mother land, but just like doffy he has special privileges allowing him to meet with the gorosie.
as for wano oden doesn't know that the kazuki clan and the D. clan had a alliance made in the void century but it was lost in time. The D. clan was most likely getting actively getting hunted down and killed this is why why present day we see all types of D. Clan members scattered all over the world. it might imitate the crusades in our real world. in the op world where the wg was hell bent on killing the D. clan but because they are natural at being explores or pirates they where already either gone or fled to wano to get the sea stones made to warn the world of the wg influence and how it was corrupt the kazuki clan because they are a ppl of who already had their doubt with open broader polices made vital for wano to stay closed. allowing it to remain free from the wg and not facing the extinctions of the d clan to their nation. i believe there must of been war between the wg and D.clan but since the wg won the war as a result the clan was forced use one of the ancient weapons to somehow push raftel to the position where it is now in present day op. after this many fled laugh tale or raftel scattered and hide the surname. those who where part of the Resistance went to wano to get help from their most powerful alley. this why dragon is a resistance leader he found out the truth and he is just picking up where his ancestors left off. behive is also made by rox so my be it resembles laughtale.
What I do want to know is if the Kozuki Clan created the poneglyphs, that means they were involved in what happened in the Void Century which questions how Wano still exists if it seems like the Kozuki Clan weren’t siding with the World Government, unless they were siding out of safety but were secretly going behind their back and creating the poneglyphs but then it also questions how the W.G. know what’s written on them?

Videos like this make me realise how much Viola is wasting her powers in Dressrosa... with her devil fruit ability, all she had to do was find a place to hide near the pangea castle. Dragon would love to have her in revolutionary army. I hope she dies soon and someone who has better use for the fruit gets the power.. I wonder why Doffy didn't kill her with a fruit basket next to her. I would've definitely done that. May be the knowledge of how devil powers are transferred is not privy to most pirates, even a warlord like Doffy...
