i started my lettuce on sept. 4, 2023. as of oct 5, 2023 i have eaten 3 salads! i will never buy lettuce from grocery store again ( i hope) i do have a little bit of tip burn - i have 3 aerogarden's in a grow tent ( gotta keep my cat out of it lol) i can't get the lights to all be on when they should, so i just adjust myself. ( i have a small fan in grow tent just for good air flow. i have noticed that my tomato plants are getting a bit of brown on the leaves. ) i have no idea if i am doing it all correctly or not, but it's fun learning. ( i never really thought about plants needed dark - but they do. my tomato plants look so cute in the dark. ( the leaves kind of curl around the plant like a hug!) thank you for you videos~and happy growing
I always enjoy hearing from other gardeners. You sound like me in that fresh romaine and buttercrunch lettuce beats store bought lettuce in taste, plus has better longevity in the fridge. It is a challenge to get all the gardens sync'd up With tomato plants, I remove leaves that have been on the plant for awhile and seem ragged looking. That allows fresh new leaves to take their place. Have fun with your growing.
Thanks, I'm getting a lot more lettuce from picking the older leaves. A harvest every 2 weeks, and lasting 3-4 months. Great way to run lettuce grows. Always nice to hear from you!
Matt your Videoes are Great!!!! I am having problems with tip burn in the center of my Romaine after 14 days. I cut it off, and it still comes back. Do your plants get that? How high do you put your light from the plants? Do you plant all the holes in your Bounty for Lettuce? I have 2 Bounty Basics. Have a Great Day!!! Thank You So Much
Thanks Vivian! Some lettuce types are more sensitive to tip burn. Provided you are not over feeding your lettuce, the simple fixes are to keep your lights higher or adding a fan. I would start by keeping your lights another 3 to 4 inches higher than what you are using right now. The Bounty Basic is only 30 watts. I only have to fight tip burn with the Bounty Elite, which is 50 watts. Typically, I only plant 3 or 4 of the 9 holes. With either Vivian or Jericho Romaine lettuce, the plants will grow massive in a short time. This makes it easier to harvest outer leaves and extend my grow.
Matt, thanks for making this video. I appreciate the approach of using the Aerogarden as a practical kitchen garden that has to produce something to put food on the table. Very often, they are used as a novelty or a hobby (which is totally legitimate) but I don't often find owners who talk about how to make an aerogarden earn its keep.
You seem knowledgeable on Aerogardens. I have an AeroGarden Harvest (6 holes). It is empty right now. Would I be able to put a small pot plant under the lights without using the water & pump?
Having never grown what I think you are growing, I don't know. Can you cut a lawn with hedge shears? Yes, but results and effort may not be what you want. I would suggest a basic 100 watt LED over a small bucket for a 1' x 1' area the bare minimum.
@@MattGarver I think they meant a plant in a pot..not a pot plant..lol..but yes they can use the aerogardens light for growing when not using the systems pods and pump and tank.
@@mikeschaoticgardening Thank you, Mike! Exactly what I wanted to know for this little seedling in a 3 inch pot! I will put outside when better established. 👍 Good info!

Great information. You answered my question about when it matures, then what? Start over. Thanks so much
Glad that it helps you out! I have a nearly constant supply of lettuce for home. It helps with eating healthier.
Looking good Matt! That's a lot of salads!
Thanks Mike, and excellent job on your TH-cam channel! If anyone is the home garden lettuce guy, it's you.
Nice video. Lettuce looks great.
Thank you Peter, too many scares with store lettuce and tastes fresher and better than anything in a bag.
Looking good! Some very nice lettuce ya got there. Stay safe!

@@MattGarver Thank You So Much!!!❤
@@MattGarver So are all Vivian Lettuce the same? Or do I need to get it from a special company?
@@viviancutler3918 far as I know, that variety should be consistent among sellers
@@MattGarver Thank You ❤

Welcome, and thanks for commenting! Yes, I keep try to do more with a small indoor garden.
Good solid advice. Would love to see more good and appropriate uses of aerogardens for long term usage with a variety of vegetables. Thanks.
Appreciate your comment Caroline. I totally agree with you, and plan to keep experimenting.
Lets grow until flowering
Maybe take off the aerogarden and put in a mason jar
You will have a LOT of seed when the flower is dry
Free garden
Wonderful idea 😊
that lettuce looks awesome! does AG sell it?

Pot plant or potted plant?..lol...you can unplug the pump and use the light..you can even remove the water tank for more room
