@@MattGarver I'm seeing alot of people growing round yellow cucumbers..the plants seem short enough to try in a bounty unit..all I have is basic harvest..I'm waiting for a sale on bounty or XL this year..also the black magic grow bucket you showed in a previous video
@@mikeschaoticgardening The round or lemon cucumber it's not parthenocarpic. I would highly suggest for indoors to try something more like an Iznik or little leaf cucumber variety. AeroGardens kick butt. The black magic is better with a decent grow light for things like cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, and larger plants.
Matt, I think your channel is exactly what I'm searching for since you have the Aero garden. I to am growing a cucumber in my Bounty Elite AeroGarden, however as it started growing it was beautiful, had many tendrils & several blooms. It is in a garden that also has 1 jalapeno plant, & 1 cherry tomato plant, all of which are abt the same size. The problem is after several weeks the tendrils disappeared, most of the blooms, even some already with miniature cucumbers on them, dried up and the leaves began to turn yellow & brown and became crusty, dried up. HELP 😢
So happy to have found each other since I like to help. 1st that is a lot of plants 2nd parthenocarpic varieties are all I suggest for pollination issues 3rd vine pruning and nutrient changes are helpful
If kept picked and pruned they live longer. Also, taking a vine tip cutting and rooting it as a replacement plant will extend the life. I have grown between 200-300 days. In comparison, a commercial greenhouse often gets 20-30 lbs of cucumbers over a 4 month period. It depends on how you want to grow.
@@MattGarver I clipped off all the new growth buds as they grew and had some blooms on them. They grew Cucumbers that were delicous.... I thought that was what I was supposed to do...otherwise the picalino plant would have grown too big. So now there is no where that the plant can grow. I'm at a bout 60 days. Was I just supposed to cut the first growth tip, and just let the new growth buds stay on the plant? I don't see how the plant can grow more cucumbers now. What was I supposed to do?
@@MattGarver Do you just do the one vine tip cutting? Or when they grow long enough cut the other vine tips? Or just do the main one and that is it. Let the rest grow?
You can do either supplementation or increased feeding of a complete nutrient. After making this video, I realized most home gardeners are looking for an easier answer. Don't add a lot of extra nutrient. AeroGarden suggests feeding every 14 days. You can feed every 12 days, and completely dump and refill your garden every 24 days.
I’ve been growing cucumbers in a hydro since October 17th. It’s MARCH 20th. I pollinate them all daily. I’ve had dozens of cucumbers start growing and stop, then they shrink. I have only 2 cucumbers that have been slowly growing over the past month or two, about 4-5 inches now. I’m ready to throw it all away lol
You are working much too hard! Parthenocarpic varieties do not require hand pollination, and are a better choice than keeping an indoor bee hive. Several varieties out there like Quick Snack, Diva, Piccolino, and more.
@@MattGarver Yeah I was unfamiliar with the different variety types, I’m not able to garden veggies outside, so when I was given a variety of seeds I wanted to try something different than herbs. I think I’ll stick to herbs in there 😅 (I have an iDOO system)
Hi Matt! Sorry if you've answered this already. Really struggling with cucumbers in DWC Iznik. How much of the dynagrow and potassium are you adding per gallon?
DWC I use 3 teaspoons per gallon. If you use a 5 gallon bucket, after topping off with 5 gallons then change your nutrients and start over. No additional nutrients needed.
Hi Mike. I’m new to hydroponics and recently purchased an Aerogarden Harvest Elite Slim. I’m pretty excited about it, and just ordered a Bounty Elite so I can grow cherry tomatoes, jalapeño peppers and cucumbers. I have a couple of questions that I’m hoping you can help me with. First, are those 3 compatible with each other? Second, if I put one of each in the Bounty Elite, would it make sense to add a couple of smaller and faster growing plants in between? I don’t want to push my luck 😬 but what would be some smaller cucumber varieties that you would recommend? Thank you in advance for any suggestions that you might for this newbie!
@@MattGarver Thank you for responding so quickly. I was afraid that I might’ve been aiming a little too high. My cucumbers seem to have leaf rot. This is my first time growing cucumbers indoors and I’m Only using aerogarden nutrients - anyone have any advice? They are marketmore cucumbers which are just the seeds I had so thought I’d try them
Would be happy to help. The Marketmore will give you headaches, since those need hand pollinated. Look for parthenocarpic cucumber varieties, since those do not need pollinated by hand or bee. Iznik, Quick Snack, Little Leaf, and more are out there.

Matt, is there a reason why you aren’t using the AeroGarden nutrients? I grew Mini Me F1 cukes last Winter in my Bounty using strictly the AG nutrients and they were very prolific once I removed the tomato plant that housed with them. I was only getting one or two mini cukes at a time until I removed the tomato which was getting out of hand anyways after quite a few pickings. Once they were out of the picture I was getting quite a few cukes, more than I knew what to do with. My only problem with this variety was that they seemed to have very think skin and would go bad soon after picking if not eaten in a couple days. How are the cukes on the variety you are growing here in this video?
Hello Connie, I used the Dyna Gro 9-3-6 since it has the same nutrient analysis as leaves in most plants around 3-1-2. In reality, both that nutrient and AeroGarden work fine. I really enjoy Iznik for the abundance of small tin skinned cucumbers with no need to peel.
Hello Matt, i started my cucumber plant hydroponically, but had to take out and it is now in regular soil and under a grow light. The leaves are starting to turn yellow at the edges and wanted to know how i could add potassium. Am I able to use a liquid nutrient for plants in soil? We ended up keeping the plant inside due to the very hot temps in Dallas. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Cucumbers don't transplant well. You can use liquid nutrients. Be sure to give it time to adjust and be sure the soil is not overly saturated with water.
Hi Matt, I am growing the Iznik and have baby cukes but I have developed a problem with the leaves which have brownish-yellow spots on the whole leaf. Have you seen this with your Izniks? Do you think it is a deficiency? I’m not sure what to try. I am using the AeroGarden nutrients and only feed every two weeks when my Bounty tells me to. I did add some potassium last feeding but not sure that will help.
Start by emptying your grow bowl and refilling with fresh water and nutrients. Second, pick off some of the most impacted leaves, and don't be afraid to clip vines to limit plant size.
@@MattGarver Yes, I have been picking off the worst leaves. But do you know why this is happening? Strange for indoor growing to have this sort of thing. 🤔 I will change the water and nutes though and see if that helps.

A complete nutrient does not need any multi-part mixing or supplements added. Dyna-Gro and AeroGarden nutrients are liquid and contain everything you need to grow when added to water. Typically it is around 3 tsp per gallon for recirculating systems.
