If all you have is regular grinding wheels you can also use wd 40, or any oil for that matter, and spray the area you're going to grind and it helps prevent that buildup on your grinding wheel.
Really nice work. Very professional. I hate welding on galvanized stuff. Had a small job a few weeks ago welding up a mount for a press. Because I had the luxury of experimenting on this job, I toyed with various processes and alloys. 7014 was hands down the winner. Of course, they were all straight and easy runs, not small diameter rounds like this. Hope you drank a glass a milk and wore mask, metal fume fever sucks balls.
You have got to love Walter products there flap wheels for aluminum never load and last till there is nothing left of them , same with there cutting wheels, grinding . I do not even buy slicer plus wheels anymore. Great job as always JD.
JD one of the most frustrating things I've tried to do is weld a piece of bar perpendicular to a piece of plate like that perfectly square/plumb. I know you had a jig but if you only had to do one of these without a jig how would you go about it?
when you grind to have the best finish do yoy aply the same pressure when pushing and pulling the grinder or do you make kind off like a file and you choose a predominant direction to apply pressure...presonally i find that if you apply less pressure on pushing and more on pulling you get better finish but takes more time to grind...what do you think...thaks for the great content....
yes off course but y meant for example when you bevel some pipe or something like that it seems like a rookie question but i think i see some diferences...but never mind....thanks for the time to answer....
Have you tried the flush cut consumables on your hypertherm yet? I’ve got the setup at work, it works awesome and I believe would have saved you a bunch of time cutting the old stuff off.
Now as I understand it, the couplings were for the reo bars to be twisted into, but they were in the wrong place. Someone missread a drawing and screwed things up. Haven't yet seen a grinding wheel like that one, JD. Do they export them to Australia? Are you moving shop again JD?
Mark Fryer yes that's what happened, they were in the wrong spot by 3/4"... someone measured from the centerline instead of from the edge. That grinding wheel is great for removing mill scale, paint or other coatings but it does not grind into metal well And yes I moved...again...been about a month. Next video will probably show the moving in stuff
Awesome use of squares and templates!!! You're like a machine!!!
Haha, thank you!
Nicely done. Ah production jobs, the gravy that buys the beer. Thanks for the video.
Duncan MacKenzie yes it does, thanks is for watching

You nailed it on grinding that galvanized down- go until you see sparks, then go more. Awesome job JD
Donovan Morris thank you!

Nice work JD! I could just smell that galvanizing when you were grinding it! Nasty stuff.
Reid Eichner yeah its gross... I charged more just because of it
Nice work!! Genius move on that jig!
Practical Renaissance thank you!!
Nice job, like the jig you made.
jimgam730 thanks!
JD great job and good thinking with the jig 🖒not even time for music on this one🤘😉
James White haha exactly
A rush job, is a good paying job. Nice work
Skeetmgeett yes it is! Thanks for watching
Especially since he could include a rush fee

Good video jd I gotta try one of those Walter mill scales out haven’t seen them anywhere sold single yet don’t want a big pack of them right away👊
mill scale disc's well ya learn of see some thing new every day top video top work, hats of to you sir :)
david o leary thanks for watching!
Thanks for showing the mill scale disks. U should get Walter to sponsor u. I ordered a box after the last video.
alexander howa maybe
WOW You living the squared life 😆
wayfastwhitie455 its hip to be a square
Awesome. Any concerns about zinc fumes during the cutting?
Joel L yes, wearing a mask and working by the door with a fan blowing outside
I have a lot of scars from welding galvanized duct work!! It’s definitely in my top 3 of shittiest materials to weld!

M. Tavares hard grinding discs are meant to be pushed and flap wheels are meant to be pulled to work best.

1:48 scared the shit out of me
Reno's Garage sorry!!!
Was the rebar weldable rebar or just normal construction grade 60?
Bob Guenther weldable

David DeMoise no.... the plasmacam hijacks the trigger so I can't use the hand torch of the machine nor use another separate torch.....
Good job!!!
Richard Valcourt thanks
Hate galvanize, what were those some kind of post tension plates?
Kevin smith yes I believe so
Plasma cutter?
That plasmacam sure is handy. Any reason not to use a cutoff wheel on the nipples?
idriwzrd slower is this instance... just easier with a torch
Any time i have to grind galvanizing off i use Aluminium disks works like a hot dam
Brainmalfuction I'll try that too
JD

Working with galvanize sucks! Missed the music, good job otherwise.
Mark Tracy thanks
