I added the animation in motion using the overshoot parameter! Then I animated the circle to the bottom corner using The AddMotion plugin, and just timed it to work with the animation from inside Motion!
And can you add in settings in Motion that will allow you to adjust the shape in Final Cut? For instance, I just did the circle and then I made a rectangle version - can I publish a setting in motion that will allow me to go from, say a 16:9 rectangle to a square? Basically cropping the shape, but maintaining the border, etc.
Thank you for connecting the dots between Motion and FCP. I've been doing things like this for a while and trying to share with others. I use this type of workflow to control elements between editors without having to go to After Effects. So many are reluctant to even try Motion.
Really easy and clear steps. I Started to follow and learning Motion with you M A S T E R. Well Done, thank you and much appreciated 👋BAT expecting more SIXERS...🥰
I've owned Motion since I bought FCP (lots of years ago) and never opened it until now (looked very daunting LOL). Thanks for all the great videos. Learning something with each one.
Hey Dylan, awesome tutorial! Very good approach- I am going to try this asap! One thing that I’ve always wondered if it’s possible is whether you can incorporate a PIP into a Multicam setup. For now, I am working exclusively with Compound Clips (main shot, PIP shot compounds) but this entails having to blade all clips when you want to make a cut etc. would this be possible to do with multicam clips? Thanks for everything!
Yes! So if you create your compound clip with the PIP, then add it to the multicam, it works great! I actually used it for this tutorial. I made 3 angles instead of my usual 2. One with my face, one with the screen, and one with the PIP and screen inside a compound clip! The one major downside is you need to manually sync the pip and screen from what I’ve found. Would 100% love to be wrong about that if anyone else in the comments can share. Hope that makes sense!
The plugin has been made! I used Keyper, this video talks about Keyper - th-cam.com/video/4vLf4bAMqOA/w-d-xo.html I combined Keyper with the PIP, and just cut out my head using a mask for it to work!
What a great tip that ive been doing wrong this whole time! I use to make a camera boarder for my twitch stream and only new how to create it in a generator so when it came to making youtube videos and wanting to do a boarder i was just using the generator and pasting it over and over and over! You literally just blew my mind with this! Edit - it was a rotating color boarder however i want to get rid of that as im brining back my gaming channel so this is definitely coming in handy!
Hi Dylan! I just love all your videos and content. I was wondering if you could make a video covering best practices for "Library hygiene". There are varying pieces of advice online regarding library sizes for example. It's useful to keep all resources for a specific project/customer inside one library. You then have access and can search for resources within the library. But, there are downsides when the library grows too large in terms of loading times and performance. I see some create a new library for every new project, that kind of ruins the idea with libraries. But, I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Hey Dylan…thanks for making this tutorial! I’ve used it in two of my videos so far and love it. However I was wondering how I would tweak this to put say a television or camera lens overlay so it would appear I’m inside the lens or television. Just something different to stand out from everyone else. Thanks for your help!!!
So the benefit of having this as an effect is you can just apply it to whatever you want. So if you wanted to change what the video was inside, just apply it to a new layer in FCP! Or if you want multiple videos playing in the circle, you could make a compound clip and apply the effect to that. Hopefully I’m understanding your question okay!
This is awesome! This will be so much quicker! I did notice another channel that had a glowing outline animated and going around the perimeter of the PIP. Is there a way to animated the the stroke? Thanks again for this.
I’m so glad I found your channel.. newb at fcpx here. Can you do a color grading tutorial maybe.. and what tools you recommend.. Is there any good plugins?
By far the best plugin is Color Finale, but I’ll be honest. I wouldn’t buy Color Finale until you have a firm grasp on the amazing tools already inside Final Cut Pro. Color Finale is great for extreme professionals who really need absolute control over their grades. But I use the built in tools 95% of the time without any issues! I would make a color grading tutorial, but color grading is by far my worst area of expertise. So I’m going to 100% recommend you check out both my friend Dylan John and Brad & Donna for color grading tutorials. They have a really top notch grasp on grading, and can explain it 1,000x better than I can! Dylan John • th-cam.com/users/DylanJohnYT Brad & Donna • th-cam.com/users/BradandDonna

I'm so grateful for this plugin! Is there an easy way to change the shape from a circle to a rectangle in Motion? I've been able to replace the circle shape on most of it but it is messing up the build-in effects and I can't figure it out. :)
hey dylan , A huge thank you for making the best tutorials and videos for us, i just wanted to ask you a question , recently you uploaded a video of How To Remove Objects Fast ,i wanted to know if we could have the draw mask instead of shape mask in that clone effect? in order to have a desired shape not just a square or a circle
Unfortunately that is limited to the shape mask. I put a lot of time into finding out if it was possible to use the draw mask, but it doesn’t seem possible at the moment. Would love for Apple to add a draw mask to the shape mask feature in FCP. Would be huge!
How do you mix your effects in your intros each time? Example in this intro, your picture in picture becomes a transition effect, or your head comes out of the circle in the movement. Could you talk about the way you mix the different effects, to have this dynamism on this subject if you find that relevant?
I love your tutorials. They’ve taught me a lot about Final Cut, and have convinced me to give Motion a try as well. I’m curious as to what software you use to capture your screen? I’ve used Streamlabs OBS in the past, but I haven’t been able to achieve the same level of clarity in my recordings as you have here. Cheers!
So glad! I just used the built in screen recorder in Quicktime! You can access it on your computer with CMD + Shift + 5, then at the bottom there is an option to record the screen. Works like a charm!
@@TheFinalCutBro Okay the real question is are you doing this on a macbook and if so HOW is the jet engine level volume of the fans not picking up on your mic while recording! My i9 macbook hates screen recording while in final cut it just has the fans zoom on up instantly lol!
Used to only use After Effects before I started the channel! But once I wanted to build some templates to use over and over again, I realized I had barely touched Motion. So the last 2 years I have spent as much time as I can learning it, and I am absolutely blown away by how powerful it is!

The animated shape Picture in Picture example has yourself keyed out for the parts outside the circle. Keyper also for that?

@@TheFinalCutBro I was going to ask this same question, it looks so ‘flex’ to do a bit of keyper-ing!

Yes it is very tedious to build out much of anything in FCP! Why didn't Apple just upgrade iMovie?
Oops, it isn't applying to the whole clip I added the mask to in FCPX. Is it because of the duration I first set or what?
I set 10 seconds like in the video, but the mask doesn't start until 8 seconds into the clip I added it to.
I figured out the timing on the Motion timeline was off. Now I need to figure out how to adjust the video within the mask when in FCP.
