My favorite is the kalbi too! AYCE kalbi!!! Thank you guys for going!! ik Gen isn't special for us in the Bay but I'm glad it seems the yummy gen quality is still there! Haven't been in a while so thank you again for the review! I'll think of another request for another time but I'll let someone else for now heh 🤡✌😶🌫 Love you guys!

Finally we had tried Gen KBBQ in Concord and it's great!!! I think they need to send you guys some marketing $$$!!! Didn't make it to the lunch $19.99 (prob the cheapest of KBBQs) and the dinner one is pretty good. After figuring out the menu, I will focus on 2 of the items I like #20 (premium beef brisket), #14 plain pork belly and will pass it to my friends. Yes, I am a minimalist and usually focus on a few items if I like them a lot. BTW, anyone knows if these rice noodle sheets are a Korean thing? I see them in Ohgane BBQ in Alameda too but never on any KBBQ video in South Korea. Just wondering. (I'm Cantonese and just think it's more of a Cantonese/Vietnamese thing...) : )
Yay! Glad you had a great experience at the concord location! Haha we’re ready for some marketing 😂😂 we also like to keep it simple too, if we aren’t trying new places! Our top would be beef belly, brisket and pork cheek! I think rice noodles are so universal like viet/chinese have rice rolls etc but I think the rice squares are Korean style, correct if I’m wrong haha
I'm Cantonese and considered knowing the beef cuts really well and this is my first time seeing thin cut brisket with fat grilling. I'm super happy whenever I discover new way to eat/cook. Also, I did find some interesting facts about the restaurant and the square noodle:
1) GEN KBBQ now has a total of 36 restaurant with 4 new coming. It had its IPO in 2023. On the NASDAQ now with annual rev. ~150M. Plus, the CEO o GEN was the CEO of Baha Fresh and La Salsa, and he is Korean. The reason I looked it up is because I feel maybe there's a Cantonese/Chinese influence to it. I don't own any business but is always curious about restaurant that I like or think it's interesting how they run their business. I didn't expect GEN is a public company but wa-la, KBBQ corp!
2) Square noodle. I looked it up on the web. There're a lot of Redditors asking about it but all of them showed up relatively recent. Then others are saying Korean do eat BBQ with some rice noodle products, though I m still not quite sure it's the same as a thin layer of noodle or thicker. Then, using the square noodle to replace what they have in Korea def. happened in S. Cal. Well, very good and this will become a conversation if I ever visit S. Korea or talking to anyone from there. (my first KBBQ experience was in this charcoal grill KBBQ on Geary street like in the mid-2000 then Oakland has a small K-town that I've never seen the square noodle in any of these restaurants.)
I'm quite active on food trend/hot restaurants (as a hobby) but surprisingly GEN had never gone into my radar till I see your video. I've also never seen any commercial nor promotion in any of the Chinese/Asian supermarket/venue either.
We went to the Hostetter/99 Ranch Gen location before the pandemic (maybe 2018?) Went during a busy Friday dinner with a group of co-workers and was kinda disappointed at how long they took to come around and bring our meat orders, we only got like 3 courses in 90 minutes. Hopefully it's better now.
That's a bummer! We are not sure how it is during busy times because we went there during lunch on a weekday and service was 10/10. Gen KBBQ is still a nice go to spot when we are craving KBBQ!
@@j-ngoc I remember it being quite busy and perhaps the servers were overwhelmed at the time. Hopefully better training/staffing these days. It was quite a while ago, and I remember afterwards, we went to a coconut dessert place next to Gen. I think that's now a Tiger Sugar Boba (or something like that) place now.
Love the concept! wish I could request some places, but that would mean a visit to Canada for the two of you! 😂
