Another ancient civilization in the Northern hemisphere is Teotihuacan, a pre-Aztec complex about 50 miles from Mexico City. Among it's more prominent features are the Pyramid of The Sun and Temple of the Moon. There were estimated to be, at it's height, about 100,000 occupants of the area, however, no one really knows because the original people were gone hundreds of years before the Aztecs arrived in the valley! Having visited with my parents in 1974 and having climbed both pyramids, I can truthfully state that they built to last! I had the opportunity to talk with owner the hotel we stayed at, and asked the meaning of Teotihuacan: she told me that it means "The place where The Gods are born"
A followup: In June 2022, my daughter and I were in Fort Worth, and had the opportunity to visit one of the world's great museums, The Kimbell Art Museum. They include a section of Mesoamerican art and artifacts, including a piece of fabric tapestry found at Teotihuacan (there are ongoing archeological explorations in the area) est. to be about 1800 years old. I mentioned this to the docent nearby; she stated that her family has members who live in the area, and the researchers are still unearthing items today!! It was impressive to sat the least!
