8-12 lb mono. fill the spool to about 1/16th of an inch to the edge of the spool. Dont know the exact yardage but a basic service spool of stren will suffice.

I find Mepps spinners to be an overfished lure nowadays ,it use to work really good on big trout when I was a kid growing up , still catch a few using it but don't slay them anymore
