- B.C. was an action-adventure video game developed by Intrepid Computer Entertainment, a satellite of Lionhead Studios, and published by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox. At the moment, the game was cancelled in 2004, fans believing that it was too ambitious to be made; indeed, even while the game was still in production, Molyneux said that he was unsure when he could release it due to "the ambitious nature of the gameplay and the high standards the people developing it are pushing for". According to one article, as of May 2002, "(the demo build) was roughly 50 percent complete". Its cancellation was announced in late 2004 with Molyneux saying "The decision to suspend work on any games project is always a very difficult one, particularly when it is a title with the potential of BC."
The game was going to take place during a prehistoric time period on a single continent which contained five levels. The player controls a tribe who has to evolve and migrate to become the best species in the game. Tribe members can be of different classes and each can level up different ways to evolve. The main enemies in the game are an ape-like creature called the "simians"; however, the world is also inhabited with many types of dinosaurs as well as other creatures, including the dodo.
Early images at E3 showed extreme clarity and self shading but early reviews called the artificial intelligence the most impressive game aspect. According to GameSpot.com's information on BC, the game would have had a foodchain, like Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, in which each part would have been subject to being eaten by something higher on the foodchain. In addition, the dinosaurs and other creatures would have been intelligent, interacting with each other, thus acting independently of the player. It would have been possible to affect the videogame world as a whole, leading some people to comment on the driving of certain species to extinction. Other activities would have included capturing and training certain animals to use against tribal enemies. Animals known to exist in the world would have been Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor, Pachycephalosaurus, Smilodon, Apatosaurus (or Brontosaurus as the game would have focused on anachronisms) dodos, ape-men, and others.
As part of the exaggeration, in addition to anachronisms in the dinosaur age, BC would have featured dinosaurs as being larger than they really were. In one preview, Molyneux was quoted as saying that the Rex seen in screenshots was a child, a third the size of its parent. the game was also planned to be very bloody. GameSpot quoted Molyneux as saying that the dinosaurs will spill "swimming pools full of blood" when killed.
B.C. is an action-adventure game where the user controls a tribe during the early evolution era. The main goal in B.C. is to raise the tribe to become a threat and over-power the other species. In order to accomplish this, the user must populate six levels with different people from the tribe. Two types of tribe members are hunters and a chemist. Once a level is populated enough, the user takes five of their best tribe members to the next level to try to populate that area. After populating three levels, the user comes in contact with apes that are on the same evolutionary stage as the tribe members. These apes, called "Simians", do not like the tribe and attempt to kill them. - เกม

Begged my parents for an xbox just for this game, a huge part of my childhood was determined by an unreleased game

That akward momment when you realise that theese dinosoarurs seems to have a better AI behavior then the dinosaurs in Ark Survival Evolved...
This is a concept that needs to be revisited in a modern game
I wish they'd bring this back with today's technology they can make it happen.

This and Fable taught me never get too excited about a game in development.
This Game would have done great, especially how much quality it had for such a old console that might have had a hard time running.
I'm sure they may look back at it and advance it to XB1 which would allow much more improvements like graphics, gameplay, etc

I think graphics should stay tje same so it has kind of a new look from most games these days
I remember reading about this game back when Xbox first came out. It looked so bad ass I hope they do it for next gen consoles.

Actually the reason they didn't release BC was they had to focus all their time and effort on one game and had to choose between either BC and Fable. They said it was a hard choice, but decided to go with Fable. There was no technological reasons. Everyone who played the game said it was great and was doing what was promised
This was one of the games I bought an Xbox to play... i remember being pissed when it got cancelled. TFLO was another cancelled one I was lookin forward to, oh well c'est la vie.

I was looking forward to this game. Now that I see it this many years later it reminds me of Valheim a bit

Just Imagine This Game With Skyrim Graphics and Map Wize it would Be Perfect!! Hopefully they bring it back !

I remember reading about this in a magazine a looooooong time ago. Said magazine said it would likely be "the goriest game ever"...
Molyneux said they might start work on the game again one day after it was cancelled, but that was a real long time ago now.
This was The Stomping Land before The Stomping Land, & irony it shared the fate of The Stomping Land...

It's ironic that this game was cancelled because the developers didn't think they could fulfil the ambitions of the game since that seems to be more so the case with modern games given how disappointing Triple A games have become it might be plausible for a game like this to fulfil the ambitions it had as a modern game but with how terrible the gaming industry is it would be highly unlikely so basically there is no way this game could have been as good as promised at the time of it's announcement it wouldn't be possible due to hardware limitations and in modern times it would be too unlikely because of how untrustworthy modern game companies are
They seriously need to start from scratch and finally release this game. We're almost 2 generations of systems in since they cancelled it. What are the waiting on. Oh yeah, they want to make atleast 7 more Fables I guess

The problem with Peter Moleneux (sp?) is the guy is notorious for overhyping games and then failing to deliver on them. I kinda want to shy away from anything with his name attached to it.

I'm confused. Cro Magnons and Neanderthals were around like 80,000 years ago, but dinosaurs died out 66,000,000 years ago. So why are they interacting? O_o;

Ark survival evolved is gonna be the next best game if you really wanted to play this. In fact id be willing to say ark is better because this game does not look like it holds features of breeding and taming dinos. The crafting doesnt seem to be all that in BC as well, crafting in Ark is phenomenal.
If you were to rework this game as it is into nowadays gaming technology it would put ark to shame. This game looks pretty good for the age it has, i remember being hyped when i got my xbox and seeing this game trailer in a demo disc. I was so hyped that i wanted to play it, then all of a sudden it never got out.

They cancelled it for "techological" reasons.
If the player did something along the lines of causing a bird species to go extinct, a larger predator would in turn begin hunting the humans because they lost their source of food. People could suffer injuries that would gimp them for the rest of their lives and change how the game played out.
Nothing was capable of that in 2002, so despite sounding amazing the game had to be canned. Even Spore in 2008 delivered less than it promised.

This is a false assumption. Fable is the reason they put this on the shelf. They NEVER said they had to stop working on BC because it cost too much.
Maybe this game needs an Xbox Series X treatment.
