E70 BMW X5M How to Change All Drivetrain Fluids DIY

- The E70 X5M is has a pretty complicated drivetrain; and there are a lot of different fluids to replace. This video will help you replace the engine oil, automatic transmission fluid, transfer case fluid, and differential fluid. I sourced all my fluids from FCP Euro and the magnetic drain plugs from ECS Tuning. FCP Euro has a great lifetime warranty that will refund you for any used part including fluids. In 60,000 miles when I do this job again, it will be free minus return shipping for the fluids which will save me about $300. This job isn't particularly difficult, but it can be very tedious.

Hey man, I recently bought my self an e70 x5m and since I have no idea what the previous owners did on it I been planning on doing this whole fluids service, I just didn’t know anything about this type of vehicle until i bought one, and had no idea where to start, your video answers so many questions, you did provided a lot of information thanks a lot for making a video for people like us that we love the DIY when it comes to cars.
I wish you luck with the truck man!
So you buy a potentially very problematic vehicle with no previous maintenance/service history on an X5M😂 people are such morons😭
@@arfetherussian you must be fun at the parties 😁
@@greggregorich8048 Ok then buy a car with unknown service records then genius… then bitch about how bad bmws are like all these other idiots do

Hey, did you use 75W90 in all chambers of the rear differential? I heard you need to use friction modifiers in outer chambers and 75W90 in the middle otherwise it becomes chatty.
I didn't do any friction modifier, but I don't see why it would hurt. After like 25K miles, still no chatter without it.
@@350Z247 do you use 75w90 for front transmission or rear? and Liqui Moly ATF 1800 for rear transmission? Sorry I AM confused here,.
@@cezheng8624 there are front and rear differentials; there's only one transmission. Make sure you feel confident before tackling this job otherwise you can really run up a big bill
Did you put a plastic pan back on the transmission?
@@Raptorlifts No, the X5M has a finned aluminum pan. The plastic pan is only for the non-M X5s.
Lifetime fluid means ten years 150,000 miles. If it hits those threshold in testing it’s considered a lifetime fluid.
There's no such thing as a "Lifetime fluid". It's just car companies making sure the car will make it out of warranty without having to spend millions on free fluid changes.
What is that gun temperature called?
It's just a generic IR thermometer
Engine oil calls for 0w30? Or 40
I use 5W40
when I had my x5m I used 10w60 its a little harder to find but that's what I was told to use
Up with a jack, no jackstands and you're under it.. Might want to revise your efforts so others don't kill themselves following this video.
I did have jack stands up, but thanks?
