The reason why the moves are different could also be that the chains of the blades were fused with him before which allowed more freedom of movement allowing him to perform more flashy and stronger attacks, now that he manually has to tie them to his arms, his movements have to be more precise and stronger, could also be that the number of creatures against him doesn't require all the full range of his attacks.
See what I don't understand is that they always come back so even tho he puts them on manually does it really make a difference like I always thought they were bonded to his body no matter what but it appears the chains don't attach when it's on his back I could be mistaken

Thats why kratos grabs the sword from statue after waking up from illusion. After that at some point after Gow3 he kept the blades and are what we see now in the 2018/ragnarock version of the games
He couldnt get rid of the blades after gow3 even after trying. Each time he disposed of them in numerous ways they would reappear after he slept. He stopped sleeping for weeks on end to keep them away but eventually realized he was stuck with them.
what? in gow 2 and 3 he also has to manually wrap them around, in gow 1 his chains are ripped off his skin during his fight with ares (hence the chain scars) which is why he used the bridge sword to kill ares
Watching these side by side, Old Kratos seems to be more forceful with each individual strike than young Kratos. The only reason you'd think young Kratos was the stronger of the two is that old Kratos doesn't have as loud of chain sound effects going on during the strikes, which is probably more of a sign that his strikes are wasting less energy by clinking the chains around with too much slack. If that's the case, even the main thing which makes the young Kratos's strikes seem stronger is actually a proof that they are less effective than old Kratos.
Young kratos was in spartan rage 100% of the older games that’s why regular moves in the older games are now special moves because he needs to use rage for them, it’s not that young kratos is stronger, old kratos just don’t wanna do that anymore
I mean, young Kratos can double jump and glide with wings and can grab basic zombies with no resistance and tear them up, whereas old Kratos needs to upgrade gear to survive ONE draugr.

Like, GMGOW is essentially what would happen if Kratos's war god powers leaked out and buffed *every* enemy in the game, or something similarly stupid. He might not one shot everything or anything, and improved gear made by the same dudes who made Thor a hammer that can produce time travel by hitting a big snake hard enough isn't exactly making him weaker, but to claim that he's weaker for not having wings that he just left behind, a double jump which is probably a Greek magic trick, and not killing fire zombies as fast as he killed non elemental zombies while hopped up on rage juice, seems like a comparison that doesn't compare.

What people don't realize is the gameplay and moves are the same just applied and wired differently. Only real difference is that Young Kratos can jump and do combos in the air, that's literally it. Older games are going more so for aesthetics and flashy whereas the new ones are more so grounded and cinematic. Also the combat is perfect for Young and Old Kratos because Young Kratos uses skill but is unleashing wildly and is filled with rage and vengeance whereas Old Kratos fights with a controlled and focused rage tempered by skill and experience. Either way he's a powerhouse and is satisfying af to play and fucks up his enemies all the same. People just love to bitch and whine and are so shallow to never consider lore and character. And even if you do allow one shot kills which is boring af (and also just play easy mode) people will still bitch and whine so it doesn't matter.

Absolutely nothing about them is the same gameplay wise, they just look the same visually. These games work very differently from each other. One is a hack and slash game the other is more like a faster souls like.
You can definitely tell how the combat priorities change, the old games make the attacks almost 360° while the new ones make kratos focus more on what's infront of his model
And the new games only work well in combat when you're up against a boss, but when you're up against a swarm of enemies you constantly have to roll around to avoid being hit rather than having attacks that can hit people behind you like in the Greek games.
I’m going to miss the old hack and slash god of war gameplay so much, it was so unique in visuals and feel, so many fun memories with this franchise, such great gameplay and stories from the originals. we might not have anything like it again. Glad we had something like this,It was fun while it lasted.
I'm gonna be honest, I'm tired of the cinematic games that Sony's developers keep pushing out. I like that there's single player games Sony keeps pumping out but when it's the same over the shoulder cinematic stuff we've played for years it gets boring.
He was a general in his youth commanded armies won countless battles, he was always tactical and a good fighter. Nothing indicates he is more tactical or more efficient now then he was younger, if anything it’s the opposite his fights last a lot longer now compared to when he was young.
More effective? no. the ability to have no cooldown is more effective. Like you can do crazy runic attacks in ragnarok but how can it be effective if it takes 5 minutes to charge

I like to think of a universe where Kratos kept the Helios head, and decided one day to revive it with Freya’s magic and Helios one day wakes up with being at Kratos’ hip next to Mimir, and Mimir is just like “Aye you’re finally awake brother” possible or not possible because of Greek magic being lost or something still a funny thought lol

The difference is music, classic gows from 1-3 had excellent bgm tracks which was hugely missing in 2018 & 2022. Though Christopher judge did phenomenal, TC Carlson voice is still running in my minds, that voice was so deep and highly energetic, and of course old Kratos with his waist cloth ❤️

I miss the glow, fire from the original games! It made the moves feel full of power and magic! They are absolutely still my first weapon Kratos has ever used. Love the spear, the axe, but the blades make Kratos whole again!
The old kratos seems to have smoother moves , meanwhile young one seems to have stronger moves , put more strenght into his hits , meanwhile old kratos seems weaker and the moves seems like they barelly hit the groun/ air
Some runic attacks from the other weapons that he has also take inspiration to weapons from the "young" Kratos, Like the Tornado that Leviathan do is almost the same as the typhon's bane from GOW2 Also Draupnir runic attacks are better versions of the "Spartan Arms" from GOW Ghost of Sparta, even some shield attacks!
It could be argued that the quick flash runic attack for the Axe and the L1+Triangle move for a fully charged Spear is inspired by the quick flash you can do with Helios.
1:40 .. for this movement, you can replicate the exact combo in GoW III by tapping square until before the last strike, then tap triangle .. the one you showed is comparable, but it can be better Good video!

Something to note to make more accurate comparisons: 0:10 - 1:22 1:32 - the default square combo(0:20) but the last hit should be triangle instead of square
That’s not really all he was, he was constantly shown to be caring father and husband and be kind to people he cared for and usually didn’t fight anyone he didn’t have to, he gave a lot of his enemies a way out multiple times. But lost more and more of his humanity and cared less and lees the more they wronged him and his character changed throughout the games. People have seem to have forgotten all of that for some reason.
Young kratos movements seems to be more effortless based on the grunts, he seems to exert more force when he is old or is more demanding but old Kratos has sligthly more complicated moves, his moveset now has more complicated movement in the sequences, however young kratos impacts seem to have more power based on the impact explosion and how hard it sounds upon impact. So young kratos had a bit more power and struggled less but his moves were more straightforward (not a bad thing) Old Kratos has more complexity in his moves but less power and is more demanding on him.
The moves are a 3 out of 5 for coolness for me if I compare it to the old one it has less movements, and I think Kratos makes more sounds like he's focused more on strength, the moves are more horizontal too. So I guess practicality is a 5 out of 5. would be cooler if the camera was a bit more zoomed out or it zoom out on some combos just to have a good look at it (both would be great).
I don't care what the Norse era developers say; young Kratos would crush old Kratos in a fight. Young Kratos showed us just how insanely powerful he was, while old Kratos relies on the developers to tell us that he's stronger but they failed at showing it.
The old one feels like we know the exact range of the attack. The new 3d depth is an awesome but different experience. I still like the older left jab, right jab style combo ❤️
Only thing I'd wish to have on ragnarok is the ability to do this moves naturally instead of once every 180 secconds, I know they made most runic attacks into normal moves for the axe but the blades almost stood the same, just with different mapping on a couple moves and that was it
Another thing that people seem to ignore is that they removed the camera shake on heavy attacks on the newer games. This makes hits feel much less powerful than the older games.
I just now noticed that the camera is right behind the characters in the new ones and on the old ones the cameras are fixed at certain areas that makes it a little bit more cenematic
@@johnleonard9102 Why? It was a deliberate choice to have other gameplay elements adapt to the camera angle and not the other way around. It may not look like it, but the camera angle is one of the most important elements of gameplay and it's mostly what makes a game **feel** like itself. And the combat system and experience that they wanted to go for required a closer angle. So some sacrifices had to be made somewhere else to balance the experience. You may dislike this (and that's fine), but it was by no means something that just passed over their heads. It's deliberate.
It seems to me that gow 2018 was a sequel to the old games, but rangarok is a sequel as well as a love letter to the old games. The amount of information about the old games that are mentioned or discussed is astounding. Alot of verbal easter eggs in this one whereas 2018 had very few, that I remember. 2018 brought up things that made sense to the plot but it feels like rangnarok just starts discussing the plots of the pasts games at random
Ragnarok had horrible writing, so they relied on nostalgia towards the old games and made overdramatic and highly cinematic cutscenes to trick people into thinking the story was good.
That was quite impressive both Old Kratos and Young Kratos Blades of Chaos Moves in God of war 3 and God of War Ragnarok. Very good your show us all about Blades of Chaos moves. Quite style.

If "BOI." saw him be the raging Spartan he was in the older games it would most likely influence Atreus to be like Younger Kratos and Kratos doesn't want that. The writing of Ragnarok could have been better to show more moments where anger can be used as a weapon at the right time. Kratos killing Heimdall was justified not only because Heimdall threatened to kill Atreus, but also because he was never going to stop being evil. However, that scene was written in a way to make it look like Kratos was in the wrong for doing it since Mimir was telling Kratos to stop. The small arc Kratos goes through in this game started off great with him keying into it when he haymakered Thor, but the payoff for the rest of the game fell flat. Maybe if there had been real consequences to killing Heimdall, it could have worked, but overall it would have been better if Kratos went full Ghost of Sparta on someone like Thor and left such devastation from their battle that people like Mimir and Freya would be terrified of Kratos.
I love the Leviathan Axe gameplay but I think that it could bé a bit faster exactly like the blades from GOW 3, I vastly prefer the old (young Kratos) God of War gameplay quickness when it comes to the blades...!
I don’t understand how people infer that Young Kratos was more powerful because he swings the blades with more force. Young Kratos’ moves seem much more haphazard. Old Kratos moves with precision and expertise. His strikes are deadly but he doesn’t need to exert himself in every move. That doesn’t mean he can’t do the moves Young Kratos could, just that he doesn’t NEED to.
Don't know if it's on the recording's end, but most of the moves - particularly Tartarus Rage - feel more impactful in 2018 because of the sound design.

Not exactly. The Blades have always focused on Kratos' front with limited AoE capabilities. Only Cyclone of Chaos that is true 360 attack.
I’m going to miss the old hack and slash god of war gameplay so much, it was so unique in visuals and feel, so many fun memories with this franchise, such great gameplay and stories from the originals. we might not have anything like it again.

Old Kratos is more tactical and his move set is more effective. It’s about precision strike.
He was a general in his youth commanded armies won countless battles, he was always tactical and a good fighter.
Nothing indicates he is more tactical or more efficient now then he was younger, if anything it’s the opposite his fights last a lot longer now compared to when he was young.
They if did more quick strikes at young version as in Gow 4 and Ragnarok the previous games would be boring.
More effective? no. the ability to have no cooldown is more effective. Like you can do crazy runic attacks in ragnarok but how can it be effective if it takes 5 minutes to charge
kratos is holding back and purposefully throwing weak attacks. the precision and effectiveness is being held back idk where you got the idea that they're better now.

I like to think of a universe where Kratos kept the Helios head, and decided one day to revive it with Freya’s magic and Helios one day wakes up with being at Kratos’ hip next to Mimir, and Mimir is just like “Aye you’re finally awake brother” possible or not possible because of Greek magic being lost or something still a funny thought lol
Old Kratos would get absolutely wrecked by younger Kratos. 90% of people thinking old Kratos win didn’t spend entire childhood replaying the games. If people play the older games, they'll see how absolutely vicious young Kratos was.

The difference is music, classic gows from 1-3 had excellent bgm tracks which was hugely missing in 2018 & 2022. Though Christopher judge did phenomenal, TC Carlson voice is still running in my minds, that voice was so deep and highly energetic, and of course old Kratos with his waist cloth ❤️

The Norse games winning best soundtrack is not indicative of them being better than the Greek saga's soundtracks. In old God of war u feel the attack is more impactful cuz of the screen shake and sound but in new God of war the heavy attacks doesn't feel that way

You know there's this combo that we all love,it goes something like light,light,light and heavy which would have an epic slow motion effect when slamming on the ground
And i also noticed that blades of chaos and other chained blades such as athea and exile are bigger in size compared to now. They just fit into kratos back while in OG blades of chaos just covering his whole entire back.
And he was supposed to be 7ft fall too

I miss the glow, fire from the original games! It made the moves feel full of power and magic! They are absolutely still my first weapon Kratos has ever used. Love the spear, the axe, but the blades make Kratos whole again!
I just realized how attractive Norse Kratos's grunts, moans, and battle cries are.
The old kratos seems to have smoother moves , meanwhile young one seems to have stronger moves , put more strenght into his hits , meanwhile old kratos seems weaker and the moves seems like they barelly hit the groun/ air

Some runic attacks from the other weapons that he has also take inspiration to weapons from the "young" Kratos, Like the Tornado that Leviathan do is almost the same as the typhon's bane from GOW2
Also Draupnir runic attacks are better versions of the "Spartan Arms" from GOW Ghost of Sparta, even some shield attacks!

It could be argued that the quick flash runic attack for the Axe and the L1+Triangle move for a fully charged Spear is inspired by the quick flash you can do with Helios.

1:40 .. for this movement, you can replicate the exact combo in GoW III by tapping square until before the last strike, then tap triangle .. the one you showed is comparable, but it can be better

This cannot be used as evidence of their actual size, especially considering that one graphic is more fantastic and the other is more realistic. Their tattoos are also different as the young one ends at the end of his cheek and the other ends much higher up.
the lack of screenshake when kratos does the classic square square triangle makes it look less powerful imo, its the one thing I would change

Young kratos was restless monster full of revenge. Old kratos was calm reasonable person who tired of everything and just want to live peaceful
That’s not really all he was, he was constantly shown to be caring father and husband and be kind to people he cared for and usually didn’t fight anyone he didn’t have to, he gave a lot of his enemies a way out multiple times. But lost more and more of his humanity and cared less and lees the more they wronged him and his character changed throughout the games.
People have seem to have forgotten all of that for some reason.

Young kratos movements seems to be more effortless based on the grunts, he seems to exert more force when he is old or is more demanding but old Kratos has sligthly more complicated moves, his moveset now has more complicated movement in the sequences, however young kratos impacts seem to have more power based on the impact explosion and how hard it sounds upon impact.
So young kratos had a bit more power and struggled less but his moves were more straightforward (not a bad thing)
Old Kratos has more complexity in his moves but less power and is more demanding on him.

The moves are a 3 out of 5 for coolness for me if I compare it to the old one it has less movements, and I think Kratos makes more sounds like he's focused more on strength, the moves are more horizontal too. So I guess practicality is a 5 out of 5. would be cooler if the camera was a bit more zoomed out or it zoom out on some combos just to have a good look at it (both would be great).

Young Kratos showed us just how insanely powerful he was, while old Kratos relies on the developers to tell us that he's stronger but they failed at showing it.

The old one feels like we know the exact range of the attack. The new 3d depth is an awesome but different experience. I still like the older left jab, right jab style combo ❤️
Only thing I'd wish to have on ragnarok is the ability to do this moves naturally instead of once every 180 secconds, I know they made most runic attacks into normal moves for the axe but the blades almost stood the same, just with different mapping on a couple moves and that was it

Another thing that people seem to ignore is that they removed the camera shake on heavy attacks on the newer games. This makes hits feel much less powerful than the older games.
I just now noticed that the camera is right behind the characters in the new ones and on the old ones the cameras are fixed at certain areas that makes it a little bit more cenematic
That's because the original ones are like a normal hack n slash, the news are more like generic action games.

@@johnleonard9102 Why? It was a deliberate choice to have other gameplay elements adapt to the camera angle and not the other way around. It may not look like it, but the camera angle is one of the most important elements of gameplay and it's mostly what makes a game **feel** like itself. And the combat system and experience that they wanted to go for required a closer angle. So some sacrifices had to be made somewhere else to balance the experience. You may dislike this (and that's fine), but it was by no means something that just passed over their heads. It's deliberate.

It seems to me that gow 2018 was a sequel to the old games, but rangarok is a sequel as well as a love letter to the old games. The amount of information about the old games that are mentioned or discussed is astounding. Alot of verbal easter eggs in this one whereas 2018 had very few, that I remember. 2018 brought up things that made sense to the plot but it feels like rangnarok just starts discussing the plots of the pasts games at random

Ragnarok had horrible writing, so they relied on nostalgia towards the old games and made overdramatic and highly cinematic cutscenes to trick people into thinking the story was good.
That was quite impressive both Old Kratos and Young Kratos Blades of Chaos Moves in God of war 3 and God of War Ragnarok. Very good your show us all about Blades of Chaos moves. Quite style.
He's more powerful than he's ever been. Gods grow stronger with age while Kratos has also gotten wiser and tempered his rage.
So how come we never really got to *see* this increased strength in the Norse games?
@@johnleonard9102 because he's holding back for Atreus. If "BOI." saw him be the raging Spartan he was in the older games it would most likely influence Atreus to be like Younger Kratos and Kratos doesn't want that.
If he went all out like himself in GoW 3 the game would be much shorter and Odin and Thor would instantly get decimated
@@SonicAdventureEnjoyer we see Kratos tap into his rage multiple times in 2018 and all of them are done in defense of his son; that's a justified reason to be angry and go all out.
The writing of Ragnarok could have been better to show more moments where anger can be used as a weapon at the right time. Kratos killing Heimdall was justified not only because Heimdall threatened to kill Atreus, but also because he was never going to stop being evil. However, that scene was written in a way to make it look like Kratos was in the wrong for doing it since Mimir was telling Kratos to stop.
The small arc Kratos goes through in this game started off great with him keying into it when he haymakered Thor, but the payoff for the rest of the game fell flat. Maybe if there had been real consequences to killing Heimdall, it could have worked, but overall it would have been better if Kratos went full Ghost of Sparta on someone like Thor and left such devastation from their battle that people like Mimir and Freya would be terrified of Kratos.

I love the Leviathan Axe gameplay but I think that it could bé a bit faster exactly like the blades from GOW 3, I vastly prefer the old (young Kratos) God of War gameplay quickness when it comes to the blades...!
The axe does become faster for a duration during permafrost which makes it even more deadly.

I don’t understand how people infer that Young Kratos was more powerful because he swings the blades with more force. Young Kratos’ moves seem much more haphazard. Old Kratos moves with precision and expertise. His strikes are deadly but he doesn’t need to exert himself in every move. That doesn’t mean he can’t do the moves Young Kratos could, just that he doesn’t NEED to.
