The update now gives the Archer a strong HP up at level 2 like everybody else, but unfortunately it's not retroactive on existing saves. I think that was the only change they actually made to his HP, but it was enough that he doesn't get left behind by mage classes (except maybe the HP balloon that is green). FAST does work and it's the only way for the Archer to multi-hit, or at least it did in 2.1. I haven't tested it in 2.1.2 yet since I deleted my old save with an Archer to start fresh. You'll get the Wizard staff eventually for casting confusion, but no item provides haste effects. You're going to have a hard choice to make with the Xcaliber later on. Your party composition actually gives you two more options over and above just having Shine wield it. The latter may actually be the least effective choice, in fact.
First off...the Spell Blade gets Mana faster then the Black Mage? That shouldn't be right. FIRE 2, yes for Peninsula of Power, which you could actually handle in one or two levels. I was going to be the lone vote for CONF until someone mentioned the Staff that will give the spell anyway. Poaching: first all monsters in a family will poach the same thing if they're coded as poachable. So all slimes should poach gels as you saw. In general it looked like all undead could poach ash, so that could be handy. The Iguana is found outside of the second town (where you get the ship). The Scorpions are actually found within the Marsh Cave, so stock up on the other item to make the arrows before heading inside. You'll start seeing the Hyena family in the Earth Cave unless you use your Archer to avoid the trap tiles. I don't recall if you've done so yet, but maybe check the Elf Castle and Dwarf Cave for traveling Swordspeople. Maybe you get a free sword each time?
Gaining mana? do you mean the spells slots? I think it is an offset for the Spell Blade as they only get the one spell per level where as the black mage gets 3.
Good grind. Solid progress

Maybe go LIT2 to hit wizard weakness…and yeah definitely FAST
