    I started some 250ml jars from spores when the way over inoculated plates came out 3/4 clean.
    Shook them very early, after myc was spreading through grains but nowhere near 30%
    Shook again after they spread more, and I’ll leave them now, just experimenting

    I am pretty new at this but I have def noticed that occasionally contam won't show until AFTER the shake & break. I lost 3 jars recently that just got taken over my mold that was hiding in some of the grains and made it through PC and just did NOT show at all until after I shook. I also caught some contams a few times when I did my shake. Once, as soon as I hit the jar against my palm one time a huge green grain ball came out of the middle of the jar. Bummer - but great to catch it early like that.

  • @OfficialCallKills
    @OfficialCallKills ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wonder if the double shake might also make the myc more resilient as long as it can recover after the damage

    Looking at those jars, I thought the agar wedges were rhizomorphic myc that sort of, froze and folded in on itself. I've heard it happens on brf, sometimes. You do very good work. Keep it up.

      @@Mycophilia I don't know how to contact you personally, so I'll just post here...
      I'm curious if you've had experience with hydrated lime. It's easier to aquire than gypsum, in some cases and I hear it fights Trich. Any thoughts?

    • @Mycophilia
      @Mycophilia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blemisheddiscgaming6464 I use it for casing layers only. I’ve heard of some people putting both gypsum and a little lime into their substrate, but me personally I’ve never had any problems with just coir, so that’s all I use nowadays. Clean spawn with just coir will not contaminate unless you have an abnormally high Trich spore load in your living environment.

    I wonder how much environment contributes to contamination. I watched one of your live sab work stream and you are at least 100x more meticulous than me and I almost never have issues with contamination. Especially not on plates unless Im working with spores.

    • @Mycophilia
      @Mycophilia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually with contams I get I can predict them. Either I messed up something along the way, or I’m experimenting with a grow/new method/FAFO (comes with the territory), but if I want to just grow fruits I can consistently and reliably do that. On this channel so far though I’ve mainly been doing experimentation and new methods rather than just growing mushrooms using tried and tested methods, so it appears there is more contam than successes. There has been tons of successes, but the issue is that I cannot show the fruits of my labour (literally) on TH-cam, so they are on Patreon. But most people do not see it because they don’t go there.

    Use a baby bottle sterilizer on your petri dishes and other hardware. You shouldn’t have to thrown them out… 😏plus it cuts down on sterilization time, especially if you get one with a dryer.
