Your channel brings me straight back to happy memories of my youth. The photographs, White Dwarf imagery, and miniatures truly were fabulous. We used to paint the bolters black, & then dry-brush them with silver, leaving them duly looking gritty.
If I remember correctly, the Rogue Trader recipe for painting bolters was mithril silver over a black base coat and then a thin wash of blue and black ink. Also Zoatabix was a goof on Wheatabix I believe.

I’ve seen official publication describe the blood angel captain as having desert camouflage, but my eye reads it as battered burnished gold, which better matches later blood angel captains so I go with that. One of Aly Morrisson’s I believe. Good lad!
The apotheker is a Blood Angel and is holding something called an "emperor's mercy" I seem to remember. It's a bolt gun, not a bolter, it's like the ones for killing cattle quickly. He uses it on marines who won't make it so he can collect the gene seed.
Currently painting my OG metal dreadnought for my WE. Based it high and ill run it as a Contemptor Dread. Originally it was Ultramarines back intje late 80s.
The Silver Skull Marine that was mentioned. I'd bet it said "Kill Joy" on the Power Glove. The Inquisitor looks to be carrying a bolt pistol of some sort, but it does appear different especially on the top front part of the weapon, so yeah, maybe it's spose to be a Needler. The Ork's camo pattern may have been used by the Imperial Guard first. That requires some research into old White Dwarf mags to be certain. The blade on the dark angel was one of the 2 close combat accessories that was available on the RTB01 model sprues. Great stuff Snake. Really tickling the old member berries.
The black marine you're calling an inquisitor is a conversion to be a Chaplin not an Inquisitor, I know cause I made the same model myself, he Eben has the Blood Angels logo on his arm
I got 4 of the og eldar warriors n they're on my tray of to-be-painted models. Coolest is the missle launcher carrying it upwards like a very casual 1000 year old soldier.
the ork and the green marine from earlier both have whats called tiger stripe camo on. became popular during and after the vietnam war. probably where the swamp/jungle warrior camo aesthetic comes from! reminds me of rambo.
I absolutely love these oldhammer review videos you do! your voice is soothing and reminds me of the show mister maker. you definitely need to make a craft building video where you use the old games workshop guide to scratch build your terrain! would be perfect for rogue trader. i also love these videos as they are amazing assets for inspiration for my metalwork. i adore the oldhammer aesthetic and weapons and I've made a bolter and plasma pistol from steel! very 'eavy, very metal. keep it up, and i still need to see your old minis in a collection review! then you gotta pick some to paint! do a video on who to bring to life with a paint job! absolutely lovely video
Great vid!! Have you ever actually read the Rogue Trader book? There were no Craftworlds and all your other questions are sometimes literal captions in the book. Also the only paints we had back then were Testors paints and really bad childrens art acrylics. So yeah, these are bad ass when that's all you have to work with. Kudos on the vid and the love for these great old mini's! Just don't eat them.
@@SnakeWorksStudio he sits stripped of colour, waiting to be painted up again >:) im probably gonna do them in Tiger Claws (what Astral Claws/red corsairs used to be), as they were big back in the RTB days and i have a few others from back then too, chaplan, guy with what looks like a LONG flame thrower and some other bits :). My main army is Blood Angel though, with a smaller Dark Angel and even some eldar, chaos and imperial guard bits, have stuff from 1st to 5th edition in that army..... I miss it being dirt cheap....
@@SnakeWorksStudio 3rd ed was when Ulthwe swapped from bright yellow to bone. I still have my 2nd ed Codex and remember my disappointment at the official colour options before making my own, and how impressed I was when 3rd ed dropped and effectively fixed all of my problems with the Eldar line in one fell swoop, from colour choices to dropping the dreadnought for the Wraithlord.
The Slan were based on some D&D based creature. When GW started their own thing they still had the base for the models, so they changed it up for 40K and used them.
Damn I had one of those dreadnoughts, it was a hand me down and my cousin had painted it up as a space wolf dreadnought that'd been stolen by orks so the space wolf emblems were crossed out and it had bits of graffiti all over it, had it on my shelf for years because it was just cool looking, sadly I lost it when I moved house
The flock is from miniature railroads and older battlefield games. Odd that they didn't copy one of the many postapocalyptic cartoon themes for them already, but i guess fields of green could be found on any world and fantasy/train tables were more common.
I still have a bunch of (poorly) painted original minis from this era. I never understood the bolters with the ammo magazines so far forward that they couldn't possibly load the weapon.
I have one of these from late 80's. Weighs a ton. Not much taller than a Primaris Marine now - shows how the scale has increased from 30+ years back.......
Still got a full box Of the rtbo1 still to build but still have a painted battle company made out of two boxes and metal minitures,also five of the dredds in different companies,also a 150 piece warhammer slann army to finish
The ork helmet has a typical ork skull with tusks jutting upward from the lower jaw, which is hard to see due to its tiny size (probably painted on with a 20/0 brush)
I had one of these Dreadnoughts in the 80's, then bought one a few years ago, just for kicks (probably because I was reading the Hoirus Heresy) to have with my newer minis. What a piece of garbage.
I've got an old roly-poly Chaos dreadnought still in the package. I used to have 3 of the RTB-01 sets. I've still got the 2 that I painted, but I traded away the other one decades ago.

Those skeleton boxed sets really were the best skeletons I've ever seen/owned. I wish I'd bought more of them back in the day.

I think the original plastic blood angel marines photo was published in white dwarf and does confirm they are Aly Morrison conversions and paint jobs

No, he's an Inquisitor, this photo is from page 12 of Rogue Trader where he is explicitly titled "Inquisitor in power armour".

I think 3D Kingdoms produces this Dreadnaught. They certainly do a printed version of Rogue Trader metal Space Marines.
They do and it has been scaled up for modern gaming!

Ulthwain is the Eldar paint scheme. In the old days the bone color was yellow instead of todays bone color

I had that old dreadnought! Raggedly old beast! BTW, back in my day, Blood Angels were terracotta not red.

Have you checked all your moving boxes? Took me 3 months to find my 40 gretchins among forgotten Lego in a box i thought contained other old toys.

I have RT01 and the dreadnought. But the dread I have is a variant with a lascannon and some short, stubby legs that look ridiculous
The absolute best. I can't believe how much modern 40k models and designs SUCK compared to these og models.
