Bonjour alexa j'mapelle lilian. J'habit et kenya dans africa. I am really appreciating your teachings. Never thought I would ever access such qualitative lessons on internet. Merci beaucoup.
Bonjour Alexa. I found all 3 of your examples for this lesson quite tricky: 1. "Sam attend le bus pour aller à l'école." Literal translation: Sam is waiting THE BUS FOR to go to school. I am wanting to write instead: Sam attend pour le bus aller à l'école. (Sam is waiting for the bus to go to school.) 2. "Ma mère et moi attendons que le film commence." Literal translation: My mother & I wait THAT the film start. I am wanting to write it as: Ma mère et moi attendons pour le film commencer. (My mother & I wait FOR the film TO start.) 3. "Ils attendent de partir pour la gare." Literal translation: They are waiting FROM to leave for the station." I am wanting to write it as: Ils attendent partir pour la gare. ( They are waiting to leave for the station.) I accept that French people say them as you have written them, but is there any logic that can help me to grasp the concepts, or do they just have to be learned by heart?
Hi you posted this comment 4 years ago but I am also confused like you. Did you find any logic or techniques to understand this better? Or if anyone else is reading this reply can they help me? This would be greatly appreciated.
"it doesn't mean to attend" well....in a weird way it kind of does. An old fashioned way of using "attend" in English means to stop and listen. So the fact that it means "wait" in French does actually make sense.
Les arbres attendent la floraison du printemps/ Les arbres attendent pour la floraison du printemps. Which one is right, Alexa? You are an amazing teacher. Thanks
what if you want to say "everyone wait" would you use auxiliary? or does it change also what if you use two verbs in one sentence or three? does it change?
Hi Alexa, how do we know what to put after using the verb in a sentence? In your example you used "attendons que" and 'attend pour". My question is, what determines the "pour" or "que" right after the verb? Thanks!
Simon Jourdain Merci! Mon professeur Alexa (sorry, my French knowledge ends here, so I must switch) can check my French sentence (gosh, it'l take me a lifetime if I learn at this snail speed!), but she can't answer if you are looking forward for this event as much as me :)
Simon Jourdain Thanks for the "à" remark. I try to remember about all those French letters, but I don't have the patience to find them on the keyboard. We have a different order of letters here ;) I corrected my mistake by copying your "à" and pasting it. :P
Merci beaucoup! Ca, c'est une bonne exemple! :))) Mais... It's good you reminded me the use of 'a'. I'm afraid I'll still type it instead of "à". I have simply no idea where to find "à" on my 'qwerty' keyboard after switching into French. Let it be my homework. :) Don't tell me, I'll try to find it out today. It must be annoying for you and others to read my comments without French letters. In Polish, we also have some: ę, ą, ż, ź, ć, ń, ó :) I never use e, a, z etc. instead and I don't like it when others do it all the time. So I'll try to fix this in my French :).
Simon Jourdain Voilà! Voici mes à, è, ç et é :). But I need to switch into the English language (sic!). It's going to be annoying in the long run, but it's good enough for today. I still don't know how to type the capital ç, unfortunately. But I must say that not having used the accents, I don't remember now whether to put ''è'' or ''é'' in the words I learnt. It's the bad consequence of my laziness in learning to type French :) Thank you for motivating me all along!
J'attends, avec mes amis, un taxi pour aller au parc. (I wait, with my friends, for a taxi to go to the park.) Attends-tu que le film commence? (Are you waiting for the film to start?) Sam attend de partir pour la piscine.) (Sam is waiting to go to the swimming pool.) Ma soeur et moi attendons le bus pour aller à la plage. (My sister & I wait for the bus to go to the beach.) Vous n'attendez pas que le film fini? (Aren't you waiting for the film to finish?) Mes enfants attendent de partir pour l'école. (My children are waiting to go to school.)
I'm from Italy and I can say italian language is difficult for a foreigner but also french is complicated....help!!! Your videos are very nice and your method is very good!
