Really great informed comments. Enjoyed it a lot. El Estepario somewhat recently left his band. And he has apparently found comfort and fulfillment here on TH-cam and TikTok. I'm writing this on 9/21/23 and El's got 2.78 million subs. Which for a drummer is unheard of. This man-through hard work, dedication and creativity-is bringing drums to the attention of millions of people many whom frankly never gave thoughts to drums before El here. And that's really amazing.
He played in a heavy metal band from S America for years. He just quit & pursued this route in life. After touring the world for years. He's a seriously killa drummer!
He does indeed play with a weight inside a massive cowbell. And if I'm not mistaken, uses a 1 zoom mic to record. I've gobbled up everything he's done and he's just everything you described him to be. He has a great music/life attitude, and he enjoys 420, which just keeps his center centered. I'll have to check out what you're into and hopefully I can make a solid request🤘🏼
He often uses a yamaha (ehp? Not a mic guy) ambient mic off his bass and a single mic off his hi hat. Alot of the time he also links his mics in the descriptions. Depending on the era of the video you watch and what he was doing the vid for.
He has done some videos talking about that he think that talent is bullshit. It’s all about dedication to the craft. When he was 19 years old he decided that he wanted to be a full time drummer, and since then, he says that he practices at least 8 hours a day, everyday. And, he is playing now with Saratoga, a spanish classic power metal band. He auditioned for the band after the lookdown in 2020. But before that he was only interested in being better and better everyday.
agree totally with what your saying about artistry vs. technical proficiency, but if u really listen, the whole is much greater than the sum of the parts. He transcends technique all together and the result incredibly musical and interesting...it never gets boring or repetitive. While i find shred guitar and extreme speed drumming boring within about two minutes, i could listen to this forever and not be not amazed all day long. Love classic rock though and i totally get your point about why you don't need a lot of technique necessarily to write awesome music that stand the test of generations and makes people feel really good, without having to be musically competent beyond not being tone deaf....some play for the regular folk, others play for musician dorks, and guys like this blow the mind of everyone, regardless of what kind of music u listen to....even Pavarotti or some other musical luminary in a style of music utterly different in every regard to this, would shit is fucking pants and cry if he saw this.
You should definitely check out his playing with only one arm videos!! Absolutely insane!! Big props for the Phil Rudd name drop. One of the drummers that got me into drums back in the 70's!!!
love this guy too , years and years of practice to be that clean , his covers are awsome . I see you have react to Baby metal , if you love Metal/Rock an other Japanese female Band I love is Nemophila -> Dissension , is a good start if you don't know this band ;) bye , thanks for this reaction.
Areyon - The Day That The World Breaks Down and Metal Allegiance- We Rock (Dio cover/Tribute .. they will give you an insight to a lot of musicians you may have never heard of but will absolutely enjoy. Enjoy. Cheers from NY.
Not sure of the pronunciation myself, I have heard him mention it quite a few times in videos though. Every vowel is pronounced. El Es te pa re oh Sih be re (short, but an ee sound) a no (like 'north' including the r sound, but like a very short version of naughty). Vowel sounds are all consistent too, AEIO would be ah eh ee oh (this one is harder, similar to the o in 'got') but all short, no lengthening like we would often do with single vowels. (Funnily enough, similar vowel sounds to Japanese and Maori!)
Lol, I watch his videos all the time , Face expressions of the commentators is always the same , freak!!!!!!! But to Jorge s defense ( like needs it ) He made his job to be that good. He played seven days a week, at least eight hours a day practices 4 hrs records a video practice another four and puts another video and that’s his life for the past four years you will get good too! Again Ridiculous
He is something special indeed. An outstanding musician , best drummer , and a unique showman . A blast to watch … goos bumps !!!!
for me, this guy is virtually untouchable, simply amazing skills.

He's the kind of drummer that makes you wanna burn your drum kit and start playing the fucking triangle....
Absolutely 😂
As a retired professional triangle player, I find his passion and enthusiasm very inspiring. FUN FACT: I also played one handed!!!😂
On his snare he sometimes has a cowbell, sometimes a 2.5 Kilo weight plate resting 😂 he is a true master of his craft

Their aren't enough words to describe how impressive he is he is a moster of a player and that doesn't really do him justice. 😎😎😎
I'm with you bro He is something special ***
Love your honesty dude.
Thank you 🤘

I’ll give it a watch 🤘🍺
That's another cowbell on the snare. He often does that
Spark amp FTW!
Love to see a Devin Townsend reaction, but I'm sure you've already heard it.
I would love to see El Estapario with guitarist Igor Paspalj
Checkout his one handed covers
Sometime he puts a cowbell on his snare and sometimes he puts a 5lb weight plate on his snare

I think if Chuck Norris would play drums it would be pretty close to this. Obviouslyn Estepario is better.
Not that good
